Well here is some quick tips that help me:

1. Use a strong weapon that has a bomb (or something that will explode shortly), so avoid using a weapon that is suitable for turf war.

2. At the start of the match, if the Rainmaker bubble is about to burst with the majority of the color being the opponent, let it explode while keeping a safe distance.

3. If it explodes on your team's favor, either get the rainmaker and let your teammates go ahead of you to splat a path for you to swim in, take out any enemy players, or just to protect you in general...

4. ...or allow one of your teammates to acquire it while you go ahead of the player with the rainmaker to cover ground, take out opponents, and protect the player.

5. Don't rush if you have the rainmaker, it's not ideal to battle 2 or even 3 opponents alone with the rainmaker (unless you get that lucky shot).

6. 30 seconds left, they only need 7 points to catch up with your team, and the rainmaker is ready to be acquired close to the middle of the map...GET IT, AT ALL COSTS! Once you get it, cheap and low this may be, but take the rainmaker back to your base for the last seconds. This way, the opponents will have to fight your three teammates to get the rainmaker...chances are, they won't get to the rainmaker by the time the match ends.

These few tips are what I do, always learning, and trying out new weapons always helps too.

This is my favorite mode. The following tips are based on solo queue Ranked not private battles.

• Be prepared to be the carrier EVERY GAME. You're gonna have a bad time if you rely on random teammates to carry that burden. Get good and get comfortable with taking that role when needed (all the time). Assume your teammates are always horrible and be pleasantly surprised when their not.

• The rainmaker is a flawed weapon but it is still incredibly powerful. Practice with splatlings or chargers to get a feeling for how it works and understand its various mechanics. Know that you're not on the map when swimming. Practice using partially charged shots. Know that it resets to the center if you fall off the map. Know how the timer quickens if you fall back. Now with the upcoming prohibited areas know how those function as well.

• Know which vertical paths to ink, and always keep in mind alternate routes. So many times I've "stolen" the RM and gone around the opposite way after my team has just being trying to push up the main path.

• Like with Tower Control and Splat Zones, take care of threats first, and then focus on the objective. In the first minute, take the time to eliminate opponents then make a push with an advantaged 4 vs 3.

• That said, half the time you may need to push from a disadvantaged place. Be brave and be sneaky and hop from puddle to puddle if needed. Like others have said, all it takes is a single point advantage.

• Necessary gear: Ink Resistant shoes. Also Swim Speed up.

• Weapon wise, have something that breaks the shield with little issue. Rollers and chargers I consider more escort roles. For the carrier, something with a high fire rate. I'm particularly fond of the Sploosh.

• Bombs are especially useful. They help in breaking the shield well. As well as getting splats when thrown over the shield. Small tip: you can use two Seekers on the initial run up on Camp Triggerfish for an immediate break

• Bomb Rushes help break the shield and create a path. Wail breaks the shield equally well and denies it for a moment from the enemy. Echolocation is unique in that it can be activated before grabbing the RM yourself, and helps you on the path to the podium. Kraken clears a nice path as an escort, if slow to break the shield.

If you cant be aggressive, support your team with either a longer range weapon, or have subs and specials that help your team out tremendously

use fast weapons. They will break the shield easier and the are to quick for the slow rainmaker.
