Is there a limit to how much they can update this game?

I sincerely believe that if there's gonna be a Splatoon 2 (or Spla2oon), they'll allow us to play as Octolings.

So the Devs will probably produce a finite amount of stages and weapons for Splatoon, and leave the much bigger ideas for the sequel.

They won't abandon Splatoon for Spla2oon until the next console generation, following typical Nintendo formula.

They've built a pretty flexible platform as is, if their content plan is any indication. I'm just wondering what paid stuff is coming after August...

If you're asking about any sort of hard limit on patches or something, I don't think there is one. They'll stop updating when they decide they're done. I'm guessing we won't see a sequel until Nintendo's next console though.
