Hello, bonjour, hola, hei. Different words, but the same meaning.

Seascraper, Seascraper, Seascraper, Seascraper. Same words, but different meanings.

How's it going, Eurosquids. Today's post is building on a previous post I made, about the new seasonal format for Seascraper events. If you aren't sure what Seascraper is, it's a weekly Spla2n tournament aimed at European players, every Tuesday at 6/7 PM CEST! You can find out more in this post.

The feedback from the first season was positive overall, with most people liking the idea of a competitive leaderboard over a set of weeks, but we recognise that some things should be changed:

    1) Points Across the Board: Seascraper attracts teams from many different skill levels. Although the idea behind the leaderboard is to determine an overall champion at the top end of the skill bracket, there should still be some competition between less skilled teams. Previously, we awarded an equal number of points to all teams that placed below 6th. This has now changed. A different number of points will be given to teams across the whole of the bracket, so that a team placing 8th (for example) would be given more points than a team in 10th.

    2) Weighing the Weeks: A fair and balanced leaderboard involves every team playing in every week of the season, to test their skill against opponents multiple times and make sure a single fluke victory does not give one team a higher position than the other. This is obviously not possible for every team, but we still want to fairly reward teams that place well in our events. In Season 1, we applied an 80% bonus to the number of points gained by a team in one event, if they had not entered for the 2 earlier weeks. This system has been improved in Season 2. Rather than applying a multiplier to the points gained in a single event, the multiplier now applies to the total number of points collected by a team across the whole season. The level of the multiplier depends on the number of weeks a team has entered; 1 week out of the 4 weeks gives a 100% bonus (twice as many points), 2 weeks gives 60%, 3 weeks gives 20%. This should better reward teams that enter less frequently, while still awarding the teams that do enter fairly.

Point distributions can be viewed at the bottom of the post.

In addition to these leaderboard changes, we have also reformed the structure of the Underground bracket to allow teams to play games more quickly. Ignoring the fact these look like they were made in MS Paint (because they were), here are the new Ug formats, for 10 entrants, 12 entrants, and 14 entrants.

Our map pool has been adjusted to match the map pool of Rank X. As we near the end of the map rotation, other maps will be introduced to Seascraper to keep things fresh. A limited map pool allows teams to enhance their skills with a specific goal in mind, so we think it's a pretty good idea.

We're looking for people who can regularly stream our events! If you're interesting in casting (with or without commentary) some matches each week, please let us know.

If you've made it to the end of this post, thank you for reading! It means a lot for people to support what we do. If you have any questions, be sure to ask in our Discord server.

We hope to see you soon! Our next event will be the first week of Season 2, so don't miss out.

Distribution of Points (also available in server):

Performance points (for achieving a specific placement, may change if number of teams is not between 12 and 14)

    Regular bracket
    1st place: 60 points
    2nd place: 50 points
    3rd place: 42 points
    4th place: 36 points

    Underground bracket
    1st place: 30 points
    2nd place: 26 points
    3rd place: 22 points
    4th place: 18 points
    5th place: 15 points
    6th place: 12 points
    7th place: 10 points
    8th place: 8 points
    9th/10th place: 6 points

    Bonus points (for other reasons)
× Upsets: Beating a team that is seeded 3 places higher than you (could change depending on the size of the tourney) grants an additional 10 points.
× Consistency: Placing the same as you did in the previous week grants an additional 4 points.
× Improving: Placing higher than you did in the previous week grants an additional 6 points.
× Worth the Weight: Playing in a select number of weeks applies a multiplier to the total points gained at the end of the season, to weigh the points; 1 week = +100%, 2 weeks = +60%, 3 weeks = +20%.
