Laptop recommendations needed

Time to think about getting a laptop. Any recommendations here? Mainly want to check emails, watch movies, do some light writing. Should I buy new or used?

I'm using a chromebook right now. It's super reliable and it has virus protection (goodbye norton!) It's got a touch screen and a tablet mode (for your movies).

*sigh* cheap advertising AGAIN

ASUS, it's the only brand I buy. They are the most reliant out of all the laptop brands I had.
