Is it worth maxing out a single player's swim speed in Rainmaker and have them serve as the designated transporter of the Rainmaker?

I think it is as long as your team has good coordination. If he is too fast then you will never be able to escort him without first getting in front of him.

Does swim speed even work when carrying the rainmaker?

Yes it does, and so does run speed.

As for the OP, it honestly depends on what weapon is running the Swim speed up. If your sniper runs swim speed up, is it really worth losing the damage ups? Also you have to keep in mind you may not always be able to have your transporter be able to pick up the Rainmaker. There may be situations where it'd be optimal for you to push with 3/4 members of your team.

Moving quickly is rarely more important than moving safely. The most important thing is being well suited to gain the advantage that lets you push in the first place and have strong defense as well.

I think a dedicated rainmaker carrier is a good idea in competitive RM matches. But I'd rather opt for a quick respawn build than just swim speed.

It's useful but for it to be practical everyone should have some speed buffs which changes which weapons would be used by the team ergo instead of using E-Liter 3K use Splat Charger. The everyone has speed buffs would help balance out the movement of the team to be more in sync and helps avoid relying on one person to always carry the rainmaker. Granted I have a build specifically built for this purpose in rainmaker you won't always come across the ideal situation.

Funny thing that, I LOVE using my Bike Helmet with jackpot'd Quick Respawn subs in Ranked.

What not do both? ;)

Though, I'm sceptical of the benefits for the rainmaker carrier specifically - the swim speed reduction is so severe that stacking a bunch of boosts isn't really going to make them any less easy to splat. But stacked swim speeds can be very useful for just getting back into the action asap, and responding quickly to changes in possession.

If you are going to base your entire build around moving fast and dying you should run comeback on your headgear. Increases swim and run speed for a while after every death. Can make bad players very very annoying.

Can you please tell me the brand names?

It's Skalop for quick respawn and Krak-on for swim speed, however there's no piece of headgear with either quick respawn on Krak-on, or swim speed on Skalop, so you have to get lucky with a shiny (I rerolled a bunch on the squid hairclip, since that has swim speed and then neutral odds for the subs).

I'm beginning to think I was wrong here - just been testing a build with 1 swim speed up mains and 9 subs and the speed at which it's possible to swim with the rainmaker is pretty impressive - though I've not done anything like a proper comparison, it feels comparable to ordinary swim speed without all the perks. So yeah, this could be pretty useful.

On some maps where there are grates, Run Speed is way more important.

Take Triggerfish and Hammerhead for example. Both maps have a "home stretch" where the Rainmaker is forced to traverse grates. Having a flag runner with stacked Run Speed can sprint across those grates much faster than a normal inkling.

Having a dedicated rainmaker holder doesn't always work the best. It's generally better to quickly decide who will be best to use the rainmaker at any given moment. Try composing your team to work with 1 member missing, and have people with good specials/subs lead the rainmaker. If you can really get your team to work well with having a dedicated rainmaker holder, then go for it, but it isn't always the safest.
