Sorry this took a bit. Finished read the whole thread and writing this up. I also didn't realize I wasn't supposed to write a backstory but whoops too late now.

Anyway, here it is. The section marked with an [*] is about what Max was doing during events that have already happened in the RP, so if it needs to be deleted or changed, lemme know.

Edit: Changed the term "anti-Inkling" to "Octoling" because they were the same thing honestly

Full Name: Maximillian “Max” de Ré
Age: 17
Primary Turf Weapon: Tempered Dynamo Roller
Dream Job: Be a famous and recognized hero
Hobbies: Being a hero, extreme sports, meditation
Appearance: Maximillian is an Inkling with an undeniable loudness of character, one carried in his animated expressions and lively pace. The force of his personality draw attention, making it easy to spot him in a crowd by presence alone.

Of course, his character is not his only noteworthy feature. His bright orange eyes shine in constant clash with the fiery red of his messy, short-cut hair and tan skin. A single cowlick jets out near his forehead, tamed only by the pair of Pilot Goggles resting on his head. In comparison, the rest of his persona is easy to miss: a casual White Anchor Tee with a brown jacket, a pair of Punk Cherries worn from trudging through enemy ink, and a black backpack occasionally seen slung over one shoulder.

Personality: Maximillian is an Inkling with a large-than-life sense of heroism. To say that he has a strong sense of morality would be an understatement; whether rain or shine, he regularly patrols the city, lending his time to anyone in need of assistance. Helping an older Inkling onto the train, rescuing Judd from a tree, consoling a crying child... no task is too small for Max to undertake, and he accomplishes his missions with both passion and determination. Really, it's difficult to feel down around him; though loud at times, his quirky friendliness can raise almost any spirit, and his loyalties lie open even to complete strangers.

Alas, as a mere citizen, he can't solve every problem - after all, the world is tainted by evils far more serious than aging and lost balloons. Muggers, lowlifes, thieves... not to mention the greatest evil of them all: the Octolings living under the ground, corrupting the hearts of Inkopolis and turning them into mindless criminals! Yet the police do nothing; they let criminals free, let the guilty escape from prison, and worst, they laugh at the idea of Octolings taking over the city, calling it a “delusion,” “something a kid would think up.” It’s this unbelieving ineptitude that motivates Max to exceed his duties as a citizen, and he watches the night with Dynamo in hand, a masked vigilante enforcing justice and truth.

But where exactly did this idea come from? For Max, the proof is his own inner demon. See, Max has always been at the whim of his temper; even the weakest threats can send him into a flying fury. In these states, he is another Inkling entirely, picking fights, probing weaknesses, assaulting those who try to stop him. It… scares him, and the fact that, despite all his attempts to control it, his anger can flare up at any time must be proof that another force is at work.

Positives: Determined, caring, trustworthy, generous, uplifting
Negatives: Quick-tempered, argumentative, delusional, aggressive

Backstory: Max was the only son of a two working parents, both in the labor field. Most of his time was spent on the schoolyard, in class or in daycare, and his interactions with his fellow students were a mix of good and bad. As Max describes it, there were some Inklings already tainted by evil in their hearts, and these Inklings sought him out regularly to punish him for his heroic ways. The proof of these events is evident, and early pictures show Max with a concerning number of cuts and bruises. Strangely, there are no records of complaints from either of his parents, and Max himself is uncharacteristically silent on his family during that time.

Eventually, Max’s parents divorced, his father moving to the far end of the city, his mother remaining with him in the inner sector. Still attending the same public school, Max continued to be victimized by the evil that lurked in the school. Eventually, he fought back – as noted by a sudden, dramatic spike in detentions and threats of suspension - with such aggression that he became something of a dictator at the school, patrolling the halls and striking down any Inkling who dared to challenge his ways. His reign carried into middle school, where he amassed a small following of minions. And then, suddenly, his reign of terror stopped stopped. No more warnings. No more detention. In an instant, Max transformed from a feared monster to a cartoony figure leaping around the city helping wherever he could.

So, what happened? Max tells this story: he was in the bathroom between classes, slamming down some poor Inkling who thought he could get away with picking on a good friend, when he caught the reflection of something in one of the mirrors. There, standing behind him, was a great beast, its tendrils seeped with pitch-like darkness. That’s when he realized it; the evil that was corrupting people’s hearts was slowly corrupting him, too. He stopped himself then and there, rearranged his life – drove away the minions, even started practicing meditation – all in the name of prevent that great evil from controlling him. Nowadays, he’s something of an everyday hero – not nearly as famous as he was, but a recognized face to those who are familiar with trouble.

[*] Recently, the dissent over the disappearance of Callie, Marie, and other important figures has driven Max into action. At the request of several friends, he was supposed to participate in the protest that stormed into Deepview headquarters, but a sudden bout of food poisoning prevented him from getting close to the building. As fate would have it, that sickness saved his life; all the people he had expected to stand beside suddenly returned without any memory of the events or the things they were protesting. Naturally, only the greatest evil could be behind such a nefarious plot, and as such, he began investigating Deepview under both of his personas. His investigations have recently been put on hold, however, due to the earthquake striking the city, as he has been busy cleaning up the destruction with other volunteers.

probably my room?
Don't worry @Hesoca, the Missing backstory part can be canon--I really love the work you put into this!

Anyway, after the next GM post, I'm going to send you two--and anyone else who applies--PMs to check a few things. Otherwise, I'm pretty hyped to have new people. :0

I've been following the story for a bit, and I've been wondering, what happened to Canchi (Rustic's Character)?
