Heathens! Motion control is another unique part of this game.

Play with the sensitivity settings, it's an enhancement IMO

Just to reiterate: play through the single player campaign to practice with motion controls. I started with sticks and got to B+ but couldn't go any higher. I switched to motion controls and I was abysmal at first, so I played the Octoling missions over and over again to get used to hitting moving targets with similar hitboxs to inklings. It has really enhanced my game.

So, I think I'm starting to get used to the motion controls. At this point now, my question is should I still be using the right stick to look left and right, or should I use motion to do that too?
This is what was screwing with me while I was trying to learn to use the motion controls. I was trying to move the camera around left and right with the gamepad, and that was messing me all up. You only want to move the gamepad around maybe a couple centimeters. The right stick is for rough camera/aiming movement, while the motion control is for fine aiming adjustment. What you want to work towards is using all 3 (the left and right sticks, and the motion control) in tandem. It does takes a while, but once you get used to them they become second nature and you won't even think about it anymore. Tweak the sensitivity to your liking too, don't forget that.

I really had to force myself to commit to learning motion controls once I figured out I could no longer keep up with those who were using them. I had tried and failed and gone back to just the sticks several times prior, but now there's no way I could do without them. But don't think you can't just because so many others like them. It's a great thing that Nintendo has offered both control schemes, so that both types of player can find enjoyment here. Plenty of top-notch players dominate this game without a single bit of motion control. So it's all up to what feels the most natural and fun to you.

Lastly, like someone else has already said, go do the single player campaign again (or for the first time) all the way through with the motion controls. I think this helped me out more than anything else. Good luck!

I've been on Dual Sticks for so long on console FPS that I am used to them, even if the splatoon sticks aren't exactly ideal, I still like them more. There are a few downsides to motion control that I cannot get over and as such, I doubt I will ever switch. Any accuracy I'm lacking is simply because even with Dual Sticks in other games, I'm not the most accurate person in the world, good enough to make it work, but certainly I have room to improve.

Right now in my game I feel like improving is not going to be had being a slightly, if any, better shot. All about awareness, positioning, and teamplay.

Thank you all for your input. I'm going to try adjusting to motion controls, but now I have a silly question. Is there a weapon that would help me get used to these controls faster, or should I just use my best weapon? I only ask because I know sometimes in games switching controls around work better for say other characters/weapons, so not sure if it applied here.
While I'm not sure if there are weapons that can help, I can think of some games that can help, and the ones I'd recommend the most are Mario Kart 8 and Game & Wario. The latter is not that good if you ask me, but it does ease you into GamePad use in general, with each of the game's chapters using the GamePad's features, motion controls included, in increasingly complex ways. That being said, Game & Wario primarily uses the touch screen more so than motion controls, but you do have chapters like "Shutter" and "Ashley" that require small, precise movements. "Shutter" in particular asks you to take pictures of people in a crowd and can help with charger-sniping in Splatoon, as the principles are similar: Moving the GamePad to point and shoot at a small, precise target, which is usually moving and often obscured. It even has a scope! With Mario Kart 8, the motion controls are strictly in steering, but because they're so simple and you're always steering to some extent, the game can help in allowing you to use motion controls subconsciously and to use them reflexively.

Adjusting to motion controls can take a little while. I would give it at least a few days before rejecting them.

My general understanding is that chargers are still very solid (maybe better) with stick, but everyone needs to find what fits them best.

I started on motion to better myself with chargers, and it did help me substantially overall, but I happen to fall into a category of NOT being experienced with shooters, so I don't have the natural inclination towards sticks. I use both in tandem now, and it's great!

That said, the biggest deal to think about when handling this game is that there are a fair amount of weapons that DON'T require the pin point accuracy or enhanced movement. This includes most rollers, most sloshers, and shorter ranged, high spread guns like the Aerosprayers or Juniors.

Well, I decided to practice with motion controls, and boy do they feel awkward for the first few battles you'll do. But immediately I noticed my accuracy drastically shot up, so it may be worth practicing to get on the level of "S+" rank players. Not only that, Chargers will be more fun to use!

Once you figured it out, they're not hard to learn and your game will improve to heights you thought were not possible!
