this feels like how i'd train myself to never want to hear clickbait again

(also i wonder how the motion sensor would interact with the fact that my cat likes to sleep on me sometimes LOL)

I heard that it only works with one person so I'm assuming having a pet with you might not work with it

Finally watched the entire video and it's actually pretty cool.
The concept of a Nintendo alarm clock didn't sound too interesting to me at first but they clearly put a ton of effort to give it that "Nintendo charm".
The price is higher than I expected but they are planning on adding more content through updates all for..an alarm clock lmao

They said something about that on the FAQ on the page… something about a button mode, I think?

yeah but i feel like the whole 'reacting to movement' thing is a big part of the alarmo's whole deal, being emphasized so much in the announcement video and all, and having to get rid of all that if there's another person or a pet in your bed feels... kinda sad lol. granted the target audience is children so nintendo probably thought that not giving adults sharing beds with other adults or cats in my case the same Alarmo Experience was an okay sacrifice to make... but kids' pets sleeping in their beds isn't too uncommon either... but regardless idk how they'd be able to isolate one person's motion from any other person's or pet's motion without collecting a crazy amount of data, so it's an unavoidable trade-off, i suppose

i guess the alarm itself, the sleepy sounds mode, & the ambiance throughout the day would still work, so you're not losing too much of the experience if you have to use button mode

Or maybe Ink Dogg isn't for you... just wake up to a morning coffee and the Trail Hogs...

I read the interview with the Nintendo developers who worked on the clock, their development process was quite interesting. Some prototypes are shown, one of which looks far more like an Amazon Echo than a Nintendo product. I'm just glad the final version has Aquasonic as one of the songs!

The pricetag is enough to give me serious pause but I feel like this is kind of a fascinating concept really.

It's kind of harnessing the psychological associations that you already have with certain sounds and using that to punish/reward certain behaviors. I thought at first glance this concept was a really bad idea because don't you usually come to hate anything you set as an alarm? Why would you want to make your alarm something that you like? But it seems like they thought of that and instead made many of the primary alarm sounds the same sounds you already hate/have negative associations with, and then give you the ability to quiet them and begin to wake yourself up in the process.

When the alarm goes off you hear music, yes, but more loudly you hear 'negative' sounds (stingers attacking, pikmin drowning, the kinds of things that spur you to action in-game). Moving around gives you the 'positive' sounds (collecting coins, firing shots, etc) and also functions sort of as a snooze button-- the negative sounds stop and the music continues but more quietly for about five minutes before the negative sounds start up again. Instead of being forced out of bed right away you're rewarded just for moving around which gradually helps you wake up anyway so by the time you're at the ultimatum alarm (if you get that far) it's much less of a struggle to get up. I wouldn't be surprised if the little dopamine hits you get from your movements being rewarded factors into it being easier to wake up too.

It's just really interesting. I don't know why Nintendo seems to want to get into the Good Sleep Habits Helper market (this feels like an evolution/off-shoot of Pokemon Sleep) but it's kind of neat to see psychology used like this. It's not for everyone for sure but I feel like for certain people something like this could be really beneficial. It's really unfortunate that having pets/co-sleepers kind of messes it up though.
