hi squidboards ! i'm doing a project for my linguistics class where i'm making a short dictionary of splatoon community terms. im interested in where these terms come from, how they're spread, and how ppl use them. im aware a lot of these terms are centered in the competitive community so that's the main audience for my survey. anyone is welcome to take it tho!

gl with your project!! (i miss doing research)

i know it's not really what your project is looking for but i do wonder how competitive vs. casual attitudes towards (comp) community terms for things would compare. i remember really early on in splat3's lifespan seeing a tumblr post along the lines of "stop calling the middle of a splatoon map 'mid' you're turning this game into league of legends" - i wonder if that was just one person's weird take or if there really is a chunk of the casual community that reacts disdainfully to competitive terminology/common callouts.
