What if there was a set of mission levels about the Great War mentioned in the sea scrolls? Well I give you: Splatoon DLC Pack 1: Showdown of the Sea

You get 14 new levels that take place 100 years before the events of our regular mission mode. But here's the thing: You play as a youthful Captain Cuttlefish for 7 levels and young DJ Octavio for the other 7! Yes, you would be playing on different sides this time! The cuttlefish levels would be a bit more combat centric and warlike, while the Octavio levels would be more rhythmic, requiring quick reflexes.

Cuttlefish, being a war captain, would be able to use multiple weapons suited for war. Dual wielding splatterguns, a scoped charger that can see through walls, a roller converted to a baton that would flick at short range without ink but insta-KO, and an Inkzooka Jr as a blaster (self explanatory)

Octavio's weapons would be more hip and fresh. They would include a splattergun hooked up to a stereo, stunning enemies at close range, a charger that shot ink around you after a fully charged shot, a skateboard roller that would "flick" by doing an ollie, and a dubstep blaster.

There'd be more to it, but I think that the first level of each campaign would be free to test out. AND YOU WOULD GET THE WEAPONS TO USE ONLINE ONCE YOU BEAT THEM THANK YOU THEMANKK

---

Now that that's over, what are your ideas for actual big expansions to splatoon?

Neat idea, I'd play that. Hell, I'd buy that (if it were cheapish, maybe $5-10). In fact, that could probably be sold as a spinoff if they made enough stuff for it.
So, uh, is this for potential single-player DLC only or are multiplayer things okay as well? Because I've got a few thoughts (that I've had for a while).
Perhaps we could get to explore more of Octo Valley and Inkopolis, each of which could have challenge levels of different types.
For Octo Valley, have things like going through current levels or fresh levels containing various Octo Valley things with various weapon types (ie. a Charger, a Roller, a Blaster, an Inkbrush, any other weapon types that may get introduced in the future), or with various limitations (such as a time limit, an ink limit, invincible enemies (so you have to go around them, having to go through without alerting enemies to your presence (ie. no ! reactions, unless its for a bomb; maybe you'd have the Point Sensor sub-weapon for this on some levels), not taking any damage (so if you get shot, or just touch enemy ink, you lose), not being able to use your gun (forcing you to use Splat Bombs (or whatever sub-weapon you have at the start or the level) and any specials you can find to attack), combinations of the above, maybe other stuff too).
For Inkopolis challenges, have challenges based on the various multiplayer modes. For Turf War, maybe something like getting through a level within a time limit and having to ink a certain amount of the level (which would be displayed on the HUD). For Splat Zones, perhaps something like having to defend an area from an onslaught of Octolings, and possibly other Octarian troops as well. For Tower Control, perhaps being stuck in place on a tower with a Charger and having to snipe Octarians while the tower goes along its course, or having o prevent an Octarian-controlled tower from reaching an area for a certain period of time. For Rainmaker (at least based on what I know of it), perhaps having to escort the Cap'n Cuttlefish or Judd or Callie & Marie (or all of the above, for a big challenge) through a level as Octarians attack them (and if any of them get splatted, you lose), going in order of increasing difficulty from escorting Judd (smaller target and can take some hits), or Crusty Sean (can take some hits, but constantly runs onward at a fairly fast pace, forcing you to move quickly to keep up), or Callie & Marie (they move quickly and can take a few hits, but there are two of them to watch out for and if I were designing levels around this they'd get split up on occasion (in such a way that you can still shoot anyone attacking both of them of course)), or Cap'n Cuttlefish (very slow and rather brittle).
Of course, you would get weapons (such as proper Hero Shot/Charger/Roller weapons, as well as a Hero Blaster, Hero Inkbrush, Octoshooter (the Octolings' standard weapon, don't know if it has a name), Elite Octoshooter (like the Octoshot, but with a different loadout), maybe a Wasabi weapon of some sort, some a couple other ones too) and gear for completing sets of these challenges.

Neat. It'd be great if some more backstory for Cuttlefish, Octavio, Judd, Sheldon and zapfishes (including the Great Zapfish) seeing as they seem pretty important to the lore and this seems just the way to do it. I'd buy it.
