Alder was too sophisticated and easy going for the pleb Pokémon fandom. Still not sure why people hate him so much.
Funny thing: I hated this battle theme so much when BW was released. It felt underwhelming compared to the regular legendary battle theme.
Nowadays it is one of my favorite themes in the series.

The BW rival theme is totally adorbs. I remember people hating it because it "doesn't sound like a battle theme at all". I think that's the charm and it also makes sense, since the BW rivals are friends and not bitter rivals like Blue and Silver. Same goes to the XY rivals.
