Turf War is fun, easy, and simple, fitting for an unranked casual mode.

Splat Zones is balanced (at least in my opinion) and nice to play through at times, but I want to break my disc in half when it's Pirahna, Moray, or Mackeral.

Tower Control is... annoying to say the least. I like how it goes to neutral when you lose control, but it is very favorable to Blasters and Tentateks whick are already annoying. Plus getting on it suuuuuuucks when you have a weapon that has bad ink coverage and it's really hard for a Splatterscope to thrive.

Rainmaker is my personal favorite, really fun to play, can lead to short games or really long ones. Another thing that is great is how the Rainmaker is easy to snipe or sneak up on, plus really fun to carry and kill with.

I actually enjoy Zones on Piranha Pit.
But Moray is a disaster.

Tower Control is my least favorite, but it's starting to grow on me. The problem is that no one ever jumps on it.

Gotta love those games when the enemy team isn't paying attention and you sneak up behind them and slam the rainmaker. (Though this has happened to me more than I care to admit.)

What's annoying is if you're on the Tower or have the Rainmaker and you're pressing "Come on!", and notice everyone on your team is spread out on the map =_=

It's fun, but one gripe I have with it is that the first and final 30 secs decide the match whereas the rest of the match has very little influence on the outcome.

My favorite mode, even when the match goes into overtime it still feels like only a minute. I also like port mackerel since it's refreshingly different.

Tower Control is... annoying to say the least.
+1, but I still have the feeling that I just need to play more and get used to it...

Or when whoever carries the rainmaker forgets the way and marches right past the goalpost into enemy spawn... I had it happen in Arowana Mall once, was directly behind them when they strolled past the goal... My screams were for naught, we both got splatted soon afterwards. We lost the match, but I wasn't even mad, that was just amazing. Also this happened in B+.

Turf War is nice for casual play and relaxing but it can also become somewhat competitive. I've fooled around in Turf War many times but I've always met many rivals where we target each other and it's really quite fun to find friendly rivalry with strangers. :P

Splat Zones.... I've learned to hate. No one seems to know how to play it anymore and I won't do it outside of a squad. I don't understand how people can't understand Splat Zones. It's like a miniature Turf War. It's not like you're chasing a tower or a Rainmaker....

Tower Control was never my favorite but since I began maining the Hydra and Heavy Splatlings... I've come to love it a lot more. It's a fun mode and full of aggressiveness since everyone is swarming the tower... I quite like it for the aggressiveness haha. :P

Rainmaker is my favorite mode and easily the mode that I'm best at. I don't see why so many people hate Rainmaker. It's really fun to see all the different ways you can go and pulling the wool over your opponent's eyes to sneak past them. I love the mode - except on Moray Towers. But I hate everything on Moray Towers.

Turf War: Fun game mode, the most open-ended of the four (seeing the entire map is the objective). It is kind of nice to have everyone spread out and focus on smaller matches, and to not worry about rank. Luckily, most weapons are allowed and TW can be played 24/7, so I play Turf War the most.

Splat Zones: Just, no. The mobility aspect of Splatoon is huge, but Splat Zones forces all the great, varied maps to be constrained in one small area. Expect long, bland, cramped camp fests.

Tower Control: Meh. The whole ride-the-tower play is fun, and a whole lot more dynamic than Splat Zones. Still, it is held back by how wonky the Tower pillar physics are.

Rainmaker: My personal favorite, the objective is incredibly dynamic and offers more strategy. The ability to take multiple paths means that the defending team must adapt to the playstyle of the offence to shut them down. It can get really chaotic and really encourages good teamwork, creativity, and comebacks.

Turf War: Absolutely loved it before reaching Level 10, but honestly once I went Ranked I never went back lol. It is a fun casual mode, it's easy to see why it's the non-competitive option. Not too fast-paced, the teams stay pretty spread out and it offers nice opportunities to practice and get a feel for different stages/weapons. I almost never play it nowadays though, outside of Splatfest.

Splat Zones: Nowadays, my least favorite Ranked Mode. It excels on certain stages, but it's mostly too constrained and simple of a mode to be much fun competitively, imo. The team that gains control first is too frequently the team that wins, especially on stages where there aren't enough pathways of entry to the ONE confined area of the zone(s). I'm very, very meh about this mode lately.

Tower Control: A really spectacular mode on some stages, although it's very awkward on others. It's a nice dynamic to incorporate a mode that requires a lot of risks and for those risk takers to be constant huge targets. Staying / maneuvering on the tower is sometimes wonkier than it should be, which I find obnoxious mainly because Suction Bombs feel overpowered in this mode. They're too often a surefire way to boot a team off the tower. Splat Bombs at least require more aim, and Burst Bombs aren't a 1HKO. Still, it's a really fun mode and a great practice of risk assessment and when to get aggressive.

Rainmaker: This mode easily takes the cake for me. An amazing amount of strategy and teamwork involved, exhilarating pace, and SO friggin satisfying to win. This is the mode that most feels like a race and a true competition for me. There are a small handful of stages that cause the mode problems, mainly when there's massive shortcuts or opportunities to reach the goal too quickly, but it's so fun and so addictive. My two favorite stages to play it on are Camp Triggerfish and Piranha Pit, at the moment...man, that mode and stage combination, I think I'd just sit and play this game for hours lol.

Turf War: It's just too boring for me cause inking the floor doesn't really make me have fun.

Splat Zones: I actually like this mode but it's still my least favorite mode besides turf war.The problem with it is that once a team gains control it's just the winning team camping so it get boring and rage inducing at times.

Tower Control: I like this mode because of the tower is fun to defend and while everyone is paying attention to it I can just flank and get doubles, at least, most of the time. The only problem I have with it is how broken and annoying blasters are.

Rainmaker: This is my favorite mode because you can take different routes and dunking the rainmaker is soo damn satisfying.

NON-RANKED
Turf War
This is mode for me personally doesn't require as much effort in terms of strategy and teamwork. Due to the inconsistency of the matchmaking I'm always finding myself matched with players far from my skill level, and it can certainly be irritating at times (I'm sure it's more irritating for them, and rightfully so). Because of this I find it easier to go lone wolf-style and do my own thing instead. Despite this, the overall gist of it is relatively fun. I like to test out weapons and load-outs in this mode; plus it gives me a nice warm up for Ranked.

RANKED
Splat Zones
My favourite out of the modes. It can get campy and crampy at times, but it can sometimes be easy to flank the opposing team if their focus is entirely on the zone/s or your team. There isn't one weapon that I'd say is the most OP if you wish to achieve a win. Sometimes different maps favour some weapons e.g. Moray Towers/snipers, Camp Triggerfish/Inkzooka or Killer Wail, but with the right strategy your team should prevail.

Tower Control
Pretty "meh". Blasters, snipers, Krakens and Bubblers are too overused and overrated in this mode. Not a lot of people are also willing to hop on this thing. The movement of it is weird too, especially when it's neck and neck and one team pushes it further yet it doesn't count. It can also be annoying trying to climb it at times.

Rainmaker
The cream of the crop, imo. Others have already stated how team reliant this mode is - good strategy and teamwork is a must here. Snipers are more outplayed here as they are in the other modes too. It does have issues with some of the maps such as Blackbelly Skatepark, but if your team can do well enough then you should prevail.

It's fun, but one gripe I have with it is that the first and final 30 secs decide the match whereas the rest of the match has very little influence on the outcome.
By that logic, you can just stand at your base until the last 30 seconds and then start inking everything hoping that the enemy team hasn't spawn camped you.
There was this notable Turf War game on Kelp Dome where we held the enemy team at their spawn for almost 2 minutes. It was total annihilation.

I love the mode - except on Moray Towers. But I hate everything on Moray Towers.
This! When I see Moray Towers on the current rotation I die a little on the inside. Though, I feel like I'm getting better at it. I'm learning to use my weapons range to my advantage, so I have to play a bit more defensively.

Wouldn't you just have a field day on Moray if you're maining the splatling? Staying on perch (hoping that the enemy team doesn't have an e-liter), and splaughtering?

Tower Control: A really spectacular mode on some stages, although it's very awkward on others. Out of all modes I swear this is the one that requires the most teamwork. You absolutely need your team backing you up while you're on the tower or vice versa.

Turf War: Fun, more relaxing game mode, good warm up before ranked matches. I don't like how most matches are determined in the last minute though. This best shows how unique and creative splatoon is.

Splat Zones: My favourite mode, while some people complain how it can be campy and too crowded, I find it has the most emphasis on coordination and if you're not in a good formation any single opposing player can easily shift the game's tide. It tends to have longer matches which is a good thing IMO. Granted there are some matches that end quickly and are campy, I find the majority of matches I play aren't blow-outs.

Tower Control: I hate it with a passion, when I KO I hate it, when I get KO'd I hate it. This mode seems by far the most crowed, sure it's chaotic but it feels unpolished, and I hate the concept as a whole. The OT rules really bother me, far too many matches I've been in have been decided in over time after double or triple kills since everyone is in one place.

Rainmaker: Similar to splat zones but shorter and more teamwork focused. Probably my second favourite mode.

Turf War: Fun, relaxing mode to warm up and test your wifi connection. As others have said, the last 15 seconds are what matters most of the time. If you get a near full wipe, you can pretty much win in the last 15 seconds. That said, it's the least rage-inducing mode.

Splat Zones: Probably my least favorite mode due to it being really campy on a decent number of maps especially Blackbelly (camp on top of middle dome - literally see where all the enemies are pushing to and spam shots). Yes, there are not as many 'blow-outs', but the timer penalty when you are winning at 16 secs left only to have the penalty +70 seconds is just rage inducing and tiring.

Tower Control: This mode has a neat concept, but the physics of the pillar is weird and has cost me matches because of it. Also, blasters especially luna blaster neo really thrive. Kraken can really be abused in pushes where the player literally activates it and just has to sit on it. The gimmicky super-jumping to it trend is getting kind of old as well, but still can be amusing at times. What I do really like about this mode, is that it focuses on the importance of having ink and mid control of the map. This is an integral concept that I find even S/S+ players forget to do sometimes in solo Q.

Rainmaker: It is the most dynamic and organic mode by far. Really tests and pushes teamwork and syncing of specials. Carrying the rainmaker is rewarding through fun maneuvers and it is satisfying getting kills with it. Seeing the dunk animation with rainmaker is just awesome as well. When you are not carrying the rainmaker, it is fun to ink forward paths aggressively and you can do amazing things with specials especially with Kraken.

Agreed, though I think Rainmaker requires a lot of teamwork as well. Though technically it offers occasional opportunities to "be a hero" and make a mad dash for the goal yourself, as where the tower has a fixed path so you pretty much always need backup. And the Moray comment...seriously...the advantage chargers have there is disgusting. Although there are a good handful of stages where I could say the exact same thing. >_>

lol, I usually try to not get the rainmaker but instead clear up ahead, but occasionally when I do, my team is usually all dead/on the other side of the map so I'm like screw it and go as far as I can on a suicide run. I've actually won a game by doing that and had several games where that would be the winning run.

Haha yeah.....actually I think that's part of Rainmaker's strategy, knowing when to take advantage of the opposing team's distracted attention. It's weighing whether it's worth it to risk a suicide mission or wait for backup. It is hilarious when you're able to just beeline for the goal while the other team's wandering around on the opposite side of the map lol. I wouldn't say I've seen that happen often but it's satisfying when it does haha.

Turf War: So much fun and more competitive than given credit for. Second favorite mode in the game.

Rainmaker:It was weird at first but a lot of fun once you figure out how everything works.

Tower Control: Kill it with fire. Awful mode.

Splat zones: Favorite mode in the game. Good take on King of the hill.

Turf War: By far my favorite mode. This is the mode that you buy Splatoon for, it's the one that's advertised and the mode that is specifically unique and 100% original in shooter games. If you don't love TW, you don't love Splatoon. It uses 100% of the map in its native format and all weapons are useful. I'm surprised at the number of people that feel it's "relaxing" and "casual" and wonder if you guys have played it recently. It's pretty much anything but, and while the nature of it is not as chaotic as the CQC ranked modes it's equally competitive today, no question. The gimpy matchmaking where you get a team of lv4's can be offputting, and I wish there were a ranked TW mode but also keep in mind it seems to rank you invisibly and possibly by weapon class. So if you often play TW and often play with your main weapons, the majority of matches will be with similarly skilled players. And a well matched TW round is the best thing in gaming! It's the only mode that's not derivative of other modes in gaming (Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Convoy Escort.)

Splat Zones: My favorite Ranked mode, probably because as @Airi said it's like a miniature TW. The turf control mechanic defines Splatoon and this is the only ranked mode that actauly scores on it. The penalties are annoying and difficult for players to understand, but I love that the match uses the full clock and entirely depends on map control & defending mid.

Tower Control: My second favorite. Most randoms don't play the objective, are terrified of touching the tower, and don't know how to defend it, so it gets annoying. But this mode also depends on map control and controlling mid, mechanics of TW. The tower itself is too small, and it's too hard to maneuver most weapons on it. A team that doesn't help poses extreme frustration.

Rainmaker: I used to loathe this mode so much I avoided it and only played it on a total of 4 maps. I'm just trying to get back into it now so I can really play the whole game. It's so team dependent, the mutilations to the natural roles of maps that changes the functionality of the whole map completely and the fact that "mid" travels around the map in a way that the center-resetting tower does not is kind of confusing and thoroughly chaotic. I can see the potential for fun in it now so I'd like to play it a lot more, sink my rank even lower, and learn to like and excel in it. But for now, it's so "not Splatoon" that it's hard to get into. The idea of "control the map" seems to go out the window in favor of reacting to the other team. As it's own game that's not a bad thing, but it seems so dissonant from the core Splatoon concept which is very literally to control the map.

Turf War is fun but I don't play it very often anymore due to how open ended it is. I much prefer a goalpoint to go after because it's more intense, but that's just me. Turf War is still really fun to play from time to time.

Splat Zones is probably my least favorite, mostly because it's highly map-dependent and can get really annoying when everyone on the other team both outranges and out-inks you. Some maps get locked down real hard once the enemy gets a stronghold, and it's a nightmare to come back. Certain maps I find it super fun, though, it's just really up in the air a lot of the time for me.

Tower Control I find really really fun, even though it does get annoying with Blasters dominating the meta. I'm pretty consistent in it and I usually have really good matches so I enjoy it a lot.

Rainmaker is really fun too, probably my fav mode. Though sometimes I just get mad Salty when it comes to teammates dropping the ball in that mode but not much I can do about that in rando ranked.

Hi everyone! Okay so here are my opinions on each mode.

Turf War: This mode is good for learning how to play and getting the feel of what Splatoon has to offer. However, after while it just gets boring just splatting the ground. Which is why I think some people after while just do this mode to receive kills and see how well they can get their KD too.

Splat Zones: This mods is kinda like TDM, only thing is its literarlly anyone's game until the time runs out. Even with snipers...snipers make it HARD sometimes. Especially at Piranha Pit. But all and all this mide is okay.

Tower Control: I really have no words for this mode....

Rainmaker: Best mode in the game. I feel this way because it's about which team can push the most just to gain that extra distance that can cost you the game or get you the win. I think it's favored by many. Love it! :)

I do wish that Nintendo would give us one more mode.

Turf Wars is a fun way to play openly, all sorts of fun moments can happen when you don't have to be focused on one specific thing.

I tend to like Splat Zones a lot (probably in part from being used to using rollers),and fighting during it sometimes feels a bit like usual turf wars with the edge of having a shared goal, so you can anticipate more.

Tower Control is usually pretty fun for me, I think for some slightly similar reasons that people enjoy rainmaker. It's a little easier to work together as a team when you can pass off the tower, IMO, and it's fun to sneak onto the tower.

Rainmaker is my least favorite only because I have more frustrations on it. I love being on a team that handles it well or just seeing someone go far with, and even smaller things like stealing it away or splatting people with the shield are really nice. But too often I end up on teams that don't care what's going on and just mess around on the sides while I end up a walking target. The shield can get on my nerves, too, I end up pushed into a corner more times than I'd like. (Once, it Moray Towers, I was pushed to a corner with open space behind it and was still splatted rather than falling. I left behind enemy ink, too, without any of them nearby.)
