What determines how much you gain or lose in Ranked?

I'm usually a B- or C+, but I've noticed the amount of points I gain or lose to my rank isn't always consistent? Usually when I win or lose, I get either +10 points or -10. But sometimes, it changes to win only +8 and lose -12 or vice versa. I don't get it. I assumed it had to do with rank, but this happens in either rank.

I think the point system is weird, like its based on whats the lowest and highest rank on the other team and compares it to your own rank and not like your whole teams rank. Like it's based on individual player's ranks and not an overall team's rank.

It's based on the ranks of who you win or lose against. The game "expects" you to lose against a whole team of A+ players, but rewards you greatly if you end up winning. Likewise, it punishes you less than if you lost against a team of C- players. The reverse is also true for this.
