What exactly is wrong with Snipewriter?

Or rather what aspect about snipewriter needs to be nerfed (e.g. range, paint, damage, mobility, etc) because I know that snipewriter isn't great for backline and support diversity but I am unsure how exactly you could fix that while leaving the weapon in a healthy spot

I find snipewriter to be really fun to play and fight (despite it being one of brellas and splatlings worst matchups) and I hope that nerfing the weapon leaves it still as a fun weapon

Chara talked about this a while back. While the paint has been toned down as of 9.0, another big problem is range. More range still means more paint. You still can put out a lot and I mean A LOT of Coolers. Pencil can abuse this to make a playstyle thay is way too passive. Just paint, Cooler, repeat. That isn't healthy and it is boring. Plus, your strafing speed is pretty good as a pencil. Other backline options are pretty nonexistent because of bad matchup. But for the next reason, I don't think it should go to 220p special, although I would argue for it to happen too.

Currently it has the range of a Splatterscope and he proposes toning it down to that of a vCharger, which would also further tone down its paint. This is probably why 220p would matter if this happens.

As it fills both a support and anchor/backline, you do get frontline diversity. But even so, playstyle diversity is nonexistent at the top level. To me, it gets boring.

Another solution is to rework Tacticooler so that it's great to choose but not mandatory. People argue for toning down the Special Saver aspect and the QR aspect the most from what I see. I have no opinion on which of the 2 should get toned down, but I'm tired of seeing it everywhere. I want to see all four people in a team pushing for weapons they love and encouraging ways to make comps work.

I would argue a small range nerf (or a significant range nerf and small charge speed buff) along with a slight damage reduction to 65 would put Snipewriter in the perfect spot. The main reason it's so popular is because it's the only long-range Tacticooler option and therefore enables the widest variety of team compositions. The main weapon itself is far from overpowered, it's just too good at playing supportively compared to other support options that can't simultaneously serve as an anchor. Not sure why people hate it more than the Splatterscopes when those weapons are clearly more annoying.

Definitely some sort of paint nerf, be it through range or the actual paint trail itself. I think it's fine for it to keep it's mobility and damage and the lack of white-ink frames that it for some reason has. I think the fact that it has such good damage numbers while also being threatening on it's own is quite important and the numbers are perfectly reasonable. The mobility is also an important aspect for it, helping to make up for it's lack of chargehold.
But the fact that it paints so well is the problem.

Personally I don't mind it's range and I'd be fine with it keeping that. But giving it less range would probably be the simplest and easiest way to lower it's paint without messing something else up. It's not like lowering it's range to that of Splat Charger would change it's matchups that much, beyond giving the Splat Charger a better chance againts it.
