Hello. I've been thinking of something lately.
Game plans. Squids and kids usually have a general idea of what they're gonna do when they find themselves on a map or mode. Could be something like painting the base, rushing in immediately, or a mix of the two. Whatever it is, we got them, and apparently, people from the past had some too. So, you've probably come across some chalk drawings in the lobby while you're busy destroying the target dummies awaiting your match. They seem innocent enough, until you look at them on closer inspection and realize that they represent 2 of the maps we know of. One is of Scorch Gorge, and the other is half of Eeltail Alley. (For reference to what I'm talking about.) These crude drawings include indicators on them, which means that something of note was going to happen, which is why in this little thread, I'm gonna see if I can possibly decipher what could be going on and what their plans were.
Let's start with the Scorch Gorge drawing since that's the one with less stuff. The first thing of note are the three arrows pointing out of spawn, two directly on the map and one outside. The first arrow goes through the little spawn trench and the other veers off to the right in order to rush that little one way drop to low ground. It appears that this arrow expects that teammate to be successful in that venture and climb onto mid to possibly engage other opponents. The arrow outside of the map has a little sticky note below it which I assume to be a squid shooting another squid, which I guess makes sense because we're moving up to take turf. There is also a colored in circle within mid which seems to be a point of interest, though this spot seems to be flat ground on Scorch. The likely scenario I see here is the arrow from outside the map is pointing another teammate to go there in order to engage with something, as the spot also has some notes taken with it. Maybe this is a highly contested zone they want to keep as their prized possession, though I'm not sure why this team would favor this spot as their favorite on the map. As for the enemy spawn though, it contains another sticky note with an arrow pointing to the platform that connects the Scorch Gorge grates, and some additional notes on it, ending in the little trench being pointed out and questioned. Perhaps the sticky note arrow is pointing to another hot spot this team wants to contest, and honestly I can't blame them for wanting to win an altercation on that choke point because it opens up spawn camping as an opportunity. It does seem like they never got to how they'd do it, which is why they're questioning how they're going to use this ground once it has been acquired. There is some other text on the enemy base but it doesn't seem to be of much note other than looking like the skeleton of a fish, which is cool.
So, it appears that the plans for Scorch Gorge seem to be that of how to roll out and how to take up space, including some questions about the grate chokepoint and the enemy base terrain. A very riveting plan for possibilities on getting to the enemy base as fast as possible. Maybe they're a team of base rats and primarily play around something like the Sploosh-O-Matic or Dapple Dualies.
Onto the more dense but half of Eeltail Alley. This time, the arrows have circles attached to their beginning. Perhaps this is where they want to land from their spawners. Aside from that, two arrows want to execute the same plan on Scorch Gorge like rolling out, but this time the third arrow shows that this teammate has options on where they could go (ironic considering Eeltail is very limiting). They can either commit to the left, converge to their middle teammate, or remain somewhat in their spawn. The first option seems to follow the other two arrows in splitting up, the second wants to follow the middle teammate, and perhaps the third option is to stay back and paint a little, possibly to farm special and whatnot. There are additional notes in spawn indicating something, likely to paint it, but aside from that it isn't anything that screams it needs to be contested. Next to the far right arrow's end is a circled spot. Perhaps their 3rd teammate is a backline and they want them to secure this spot? I don't know, but I do know that there isn't much reason to be interested with it this early. Maybe this is for later in case they're actually losing, since the arrow next to it seems to indicate them forgoing this and moving forward. Next to the right arrow is another indicating to climb the bridge. This is very good because your team lives and dies by the Eeltail bridge. Whoever controls it controls the map and it is very hard to get people out of there once they pushed and own it. Right next to it on the left is a huge highlighted spot which this team seems to take interest in. Perhaps they want to divert their foes there so they can be easy pickings when they control the bridge, or maybe they just don't want the bridge and want that corner instead, which in that case means its very likely for their plans to fall apart if the enemy is aware. The map is then cut off with some highlighted text, possibly saying they need to work on this more.
So, questionable planning on this team here. They seem to want parts of the map that aren't important in the moment or a part that is disadvantageous. I'm not sure what they'd do with the left low ground next to the bridge but it's likely they wish to force fights there. More power to them I guess.
Well then, what can we conclude. For one, I can say these are some somewhat aware squids, but also they seem to be a bit too optimistic about their plans. The Eeltail drawing at least seems to have some sort of failsafe in case something happens, but the same cannot be said for the Scorch Gorge drawing. It's funny because these plans were probably acted out unknowingly by some random team, but we'll probably not know the true intent behind this ragtag team. Good on them though for hanging out in the lobby and making something for future lobby people to gaze upon. Might even be permanent.
So that's what I've been thinking about. Feel free to make your own assumptions on these drawing and come up with your own interpretation of them. Would love to see it.
