...give some insight into that. But if I had to guess, it's just the place were Inklings live and Inkopolis is just the main hub for the "cool kids" to hang out and enter Turf Wars.
... say that there was once a type of ancient creature that used to do many various things such as eating prawns and making technology. This probably refers to us humans.
We are not there where they live anymore. Did we go extinct? Was there a world war and all humans died? A mass extinction event like an asteroid? Maybe we just polluted the Earth too much and left... it would explain why Inklings cannot swim in the water. Maybe it's toxic because we made it that way.
The point is, squids and octopi now rule the world, so outside of Inkopolis is probably just what the Inklings made to live on land using the technology we left behind. The story is actually pretty deep if you think about it.

In Blackbelly Skatepark through the glass you can see cars, who is driving the cars? Adult inklings? Where are they driving to? Where is this town near Arowana mall the Squid Sisters talk about? So much questons, so little answers. Anyway it's cool to hear what people think is out there, and also where do inklings live before they go to inkopilis, I'm guessing you have to be able to transform into a humanoid (Age of 14) to come to inkopilis?

Turf war is just a "hip and happening" sport that the little squid children love. I'd wager that the inklings taking part in the turf wars are only a small fraction of the entire population in Splatoon's world, with squid who want nothing to do with turf wars and older squid living outside Inkopolis doing other things. There are also other sentient sea creatures aside from inklings, so there are probably more shrimp, jellyfish, crabs, etc. outside Inkopolis as well.
