After a bit of procrastinating on this idea, I decided to listen to most of the songs from the 3 main idol groups and rank them on a tier list to decide which of the 3 have the better music.
I'm omitting songs attributed to other artists like Tentacle to the Metal from Damp Socks, BRB and TR from Splatoon 2's final battle (though I would've put them very high in S I like them a lot) and all of the songs from Now or Never Seven.
I'm also omitting a lot of "smaller" songs, or songs that I don't really want to count, that might sound arbitrary, and it more or less is, but it's about songs like for the news, battle wins and loses, alternative versions, or small demos.

If you want to do your own tier list, I highly encourage you to post it here too, or at least for the songs you really care, you can even add songs I didn't count but most likely really like, I'm just trying to focus here on songs made by the groups, not solos or collaborations, but I think it would be very nice to see some other songs counted.
Ok now I'm going to list my opinion in the songs too, granted I know very little about music terms so please bear with me in some of the more silly sounding stuff I said, please..... I'll try and spoiler it so you can just ignore the giant wall of text too hahhah.

- D TIER & C TIER-

- SHARK BYTES: This song is not, awful, yeah, it has parts I actually like a bit, but also some parts are just, not good....
For the most part is ok though, I like the main part of the song enough, but when the part with Pearl rapping and that silly melody, I really think brings down this to D tier lol (I like Pearl rapping btw I just mean the melody part, I think it's called the melody anyways....)

- DEEP CUT: It's a bit sad to me that this song is called Deep Cut, it uses mostly the melody from Anarchy Splatcast, which isn't bad but it doesn't do enough to be a full song, I even considered cutting it but I think it counts as a main song.
This song is used to present Deep Cut to the player too, which, I mean, does well, I don't hate it, C tier is more the tier where I'm kinda indifferent about a song, so I hope that clarifies my feelings towards it.

- B TIER -

- MUCK WARFARE: In my mind this song occupies the same space as Shark Bytes, except this time is more pleasant to listen to, it has no lows, just constant.... this is a nice song....
Nothing exceptional though, but I think it could be higher for some people, it is a nice song after all.

- DAYBREAKER ANTHEM: I think this is a nice after splatfest song, with its melancholic tone and all, considered putting it in A tier but I just don't like the song enough, it is competent though, even if it might have some tones or small jingles I don't jive with completely

- HIDE AND SLEEK: I had this song in A tier up to the last moment, but I don't find it memorable enough, it is good though, I like it, this section in story mode was cool too, but it has been a while so I might be misremembering how good it actually was, maybe if I remembered it a little bit more clearly the song would be in A tier, is close to going there so if you think the gameplay section is cool feel free to up it a tier in my list, yep.

- A TIER -

- BOMB RUSH BLUSH: I wanted to put this over Tide Goes Out but if I'm being honest it just doesn't have enough.... It is a very good song though and deserving of A tier, I really like listening to it and the Octavio version would go in S tier if you want to know.

- ACID HUES: Very similar to Bomb Rush Blush in my mind, except I like it a bit more, I would listen to from time to time, less than BRB, but I still think it's a bit better,

- TOMORROW'S NOSTALGIA TODAY: This is the point where a few songs I like less than Bomb Rush Blush but I still think are better because they don't loop so soon, I think it's a nice song for splatfest, though I forgot for a bit where it actually played oops...
Not much to say I think? It's just good.

- LIQUID SUNSHINE: I'm starting to realize how often I group songs with others lol, this time with Tomorrow's Nostalgia Today, I think it's quite better than it though! Big Ma-
Ahem, Ian BGM's inclusion certainly helps this song, I like it when this song comes up on splatfest, certified I like this song moment.

- EBB & FLOW (OCTO): This song might be deserving of going together with Fly Octo Fly but on its own is just, good, a worse version of Ebb & Flow (don't take that too literally).
I won't talk much about it, I think it would be better if this song and Fly Octo Fly was counted together for the purpose of this tier list, but it's fine.

- ANARCHY POISONS (SNAKE, BOAR AND BIRD MIX): I really like these! They are more or less simple, but for what they are I think they did a very good job :]
My ranking of them goes Boar, Snake and Bird, I think Snake and Bird are a bit too similar but they are distinct enough.

- FEST ZEST: I made an exception on the no winning and losing battle themes because I thought this was for something else until I looked up where it came up so it gets to stay on the rankings.
It's good! probably the best victory theme? I don't know, I didn't listen to the others.

- SURPRISE AND SHINE: I actually forgot how this song works, with all the phases and that, but I listened to a full multiphases version and that's what I'm going to stick with sorry for that.
It's good! I like the energy here, honestly very fitting for boss battles, I think, it's kinda embarrassing to forget so much so I think I'll leave it at that.

- FRESH START: I think all ending songs are really good, they are more complex than others and it coming after finishing a campaign makes it harder.
That being said I think Fresh Start is the worse of the ending songs, and even then I think it's, like, really good, I just feel a bit more strongly towards the songs higher to this one, even so, I like this one a lot....

- SMEARED CANVAS: Surprisingly good, I think this is a very "Deep Cut" song, maybe if I listen to it more it will grow on me, since I hadn't listened to it much until I did this ranking. I honestly think it could go a bit higher even, I feel this style of music that Deep Cut makes is just, really good.

- BLUSHING TIDE: I think Tidal Rush is veryyyy good, this remix is good too, but I just can't help but compare it to Tidal Rush, so it goes below the original those songs came from.

- TIDE GOES OUT: One of the solo songs from Marie, wait, then should it count? Uhhhhhhh.
Realizations aside, this song is really good, I think both BRB and TGO represent each respective Squid Sister very well, and even though I like Callie more I think Marie's tone makes into a better song, the more relaxing ambiance and the pauses make the slower pace of this song, which helps with the shorter loop on these songs, there are a few things I like about this song that I can't describe due to not knowing much music terminelogy, so I'll have to cut it short with I think it makes me feel nice (I still get more hyped with BRB which makes me like it more but you know how it is....)

- CITY OF COLOR: It's the Squid Sister's song!! Only second to THE Splatoon song in how iconic it is. I think this was my proper introduction to Splatoon music, it's really good, I have a lot of nostalgia for it, a time where I didn't play Splatoon and knew very little of it, honestly I wish I could put this song higher but I think this is the limit it has, even if I have put some songs that some people might consider worse higher hehheheh....

- BIG BETRAYAL: I've heard people say this song is kinda bad, and I just kinda disagree.
This song has a lot of talking on it, sections dedicated to just banter, and I think it's cool and awesome actually, the premise is kinda unique too,in general is just a fun song ok, and I think it's good, I'm of the opinion that Inkling/Octoling voices are actually good most of the time so this song has my approval.

- COLOR PULSE: Similar to City of Color, this song is THE song for Off the Hook, all of the idol groups have songs that could be considered their main song, even if some of them have more iconic ones, and I think this is a very solid second in terms of how good their main song is, I really, really, really, really like Pearl and Marina, both as individuals and as a group, and this song does a good job in presenting them to the player, very good song, no notes.

- INK ME UP: I love this song, the energy it has is really good, probably like it even more than Maritime Memory, contender for my favorite Squid Sisters song, also no notes, just very goooooooood.

- MARITIME MEMORY: As I said before, ending songs are really good, and man does this one really demonstrate why, I think it's on the average side of ending songs, meaning is not on the worse or better ends of the spectrum, and all of them being in A tier says something about their quality.
This one is just really good, didn't get to play Splatoon's story mode, but even then I feel a world where I played Splatoon for the first time and got hit with this after a very fun campaign, powerful song.

- NASTY MAJESTY: I love this song, had it been about how much I personally like a song it would have gone into S tier, but I don't think it has enough to justify it. Also the song being so long in my downloaded version makes it so I have to cut it early I do love this song but believe me I don't want a 5 minutes loop of it.
Anyways, I really like the different tone from this song compared to Off the Hook's other catalogue, I think it sets the tone nicely for Octo Expansion, and the reveal? So gooood..... Also like how you can hear the lyrics as Frosty hehhheheh.

- S TIER -

- WAVE GOODBYE: Powerful song, despite not being the best campaign, I think this song really is the best out of the 3 main story modes, the inclusion of the original calamary county chorus is so good too, ougghhhh this song is good the way it builds up, it's the end of a trilogy,

- EBB & FLOW: This is THE actual song from Off the Hook. It was the song that Marina played to Pearl first, and it's the one that keeps popping up in other important songs, I just think it's very cute....
I also think this song is good and I like it a lot, listen to it often too, just a very good package of elements that make this song good.

- THE PLAN: Ok so, one, I think this song is REALLY good for how short of a role it plays, the blaring sirens are an element I love, the use of Nasty Majesty is also very good, and it serves the situation where it plays very well.
I think is one of my favorite songs to listen too, I love this song a lot, so maybe my bias showed a bit, but I hope you understand I do think this song is this high up.

- TILL DEPTH DO US PART: This is the start of what I think of as the "3 Really Good Bangers From Deep Cut", for some reason this song goes really hard, the energy on this one is almost unparalleled, probably the second best Splatfest song, insane how hard Deep Cut can pop off.

- ANARCHY RAINBOW: The only reason this is below Fly Octo Fly is because this isn't played at such an insanely good climax, this song is the main song from Deep Cut, and in my opinion, the best main song out of the 3 idol group, I'm sorry for, again, being so ignorant in music terminology, but this song, is, really, good, something I've said so much but it bears enfasis here, I think this song is very competent technically, mixing a lot of styles in a very elegant manner, truly a banger.

- FLY OCTO FLY: This song coming at the climax of the best Splatoon campaign is carrying it hard but this song is also just very good, I have to admit I'm counting this song and only this song as the whole thing, including Ebb & Flow (octo) while that version of the song is counted on its own, I just don't want to count this particular section as a separate thing, it was made to follow into E&F and I don't really wanted to rank the whole E&F section on its own this high.
I also like this song obviously, a bit less than some of the lower ones but it's still a song I hold in high regards.

- FINS IN THE AIR: I would've put this song above the next 2 but that would've been too much bias towards my preference, even if this list is choke full of it, I don't care, this song is this high and it deserves it, the best Deep Cut song, hell, the best song that doesn't rely on being the most important song in the series or being the ending song of the best campaign, though even then those two songs are still better, I just like this one more.
I wish I could be more specific but my ignorance holds me back again because I don't know how to describe the parts I like about this song, trust me though is insanely good.

- INTO THE LIGHT: The actual best ending song, also one of the best songs in Splatoon in general, actually better than Calamari Inkantation even, every part of this song is so good man, the pacing, the vocals, melody, enough to make a grown man cry....
I said before this song was carried by being the ending song of the best campaign but that's kind of a lie actually, the only reason is this good is because the quality for Octo Expansion was so high, but in a vaccum, this song would still be one of the best in Splatoon.

- CALAMARI INKANTATION: The Splatoon song, yes.
A very good song on its own, yes.
But even more than that, I think the mythos around this song, the way it sounds, I think this song lives to the name of the Heavenly Melody.
I didn't count other versions of this song because I feel this song on its own is special, and I didn't really feel like it lol. The way it's used, and the quality of it, makes it so this song really lits a spark on me, I think this is a song of inspiration and represents a lot about what I love about Splatoon, so it had to rank this high in my mind.

- OPPA TOBY STYLE: This is a very long song, and it's part of the....
Uh? This is not a Splatoon song? Yeah, ok, I'm being cheeky here, I really love this song, my current favorite actually, I really think it's one of Toby Fox's best songs, maybe second only to Savior of the Waking World.
Sorry for all non Homestuck people but I really do think you should give Homestuck music a try, if you're familiar with Undertale and Deltarune, you could just check out Toby's contributions, I really think it's some of his best work (Umbral Ultimatum, Black, the ones previoulsy mentioned etc.).

But yeah this might jeopardize the integrity of this tier list and discussion, so why don't you shout out one song that you might like even more so than the Splatoon ost? you might not even like the Splatoon ost but I'm working with the assumption that you like it at the very least ok so at least give me something you enjoy here, as I said before, I encourage you to at least make a smallish tier list with the songs you care about or disagree with me, and if you include a funny song you like in there I think that would be very nice.

With my opinion about every single song on the tier list out of the way, what's my final veredict? I'll go from worst to best and explain my reasoning.

- DEEP CUT -
Oh man how I wish Deep Cut could have more bangers, I really think their music is very good, and even better than the average from the Squid Sisters and Off the Hook, but I would have to ignore a lot of songs I don't care about to even think that, most of their discography is good, but not as good as the other groups, they just don't have equivalents to some of their best songs that come from the story mode, since their presence there is kinda miniscule compared to how much of a role the other 2 groups had in the rest of the campaigns.

I'm really hoping for Deep Cut to get something, ANYTHING in the next game that expands their music selection, because the bangers that they do have are sooo good.

- SQUID SISTERS -
The fight between Squid Sisters and Off the Hook is surprisingly close, I just, personally, feel the style of music Off the Hook makes is better, I like it more, and it's more diverse, plus having more songs on S tier, even so, I think the Squid Sistes are good through out, even more so than Off the Hook, but that isn't enough for me to think of their music as better than Off the Hook.

- OFF THE HOOK -
I like Pearl and Marina a lot, they make some of the best music in this game too, and even with the duds they have, I think they are the best group music wise, hell, even character wise (though Deep Cut could've at least try to get close to that point if it had at the very least SOME focus outside of their bandit shenanigans please....).

Anyways, that's my veredict, a bit short, I know, but I'm not too good at these kind of things, and I don't really need to bloat this text, so this is what I can give, please, let me know if you think differently because I think the 3 groups are closer in quality than you would expect if you give an earnest listening, and I really wish someone with more music experience could give their piece.

Will need to go listen to every idol group's entire discography and then get back to this, because I almost never listen to splatoon music outside the game.

Personally, I think the Squid Sisters have the best in regards to character development, but they are closely second behind Deep Cut in terms of the music. Though, the original "City of Color" should've been played instead of its remixed version during Splatfests, I'm just not a fan of the addition of the echo in the remix version, as the lack of the echo added to the charm of the series.

I just felt like putting something on D tier, you can put it up to B tier on my tier list if you want, any higher than that and it will have to be your own tier list though.

That's fine, I did ask for thoughts after all! Re listening to the song I do feel bottom of B tier is ok for it, I think one section bothered me and thought of it as bad my first 2 times I was listening to it for this specifically, but I think it's fine actually, I do like my own share of sections of songs that can be considered bad after all....
