When your usual winning experience is you alone creating a lead in points (either riding the tower alone, team wiping and then grabbing rainmaker, and playing solo horde mode in splatzone) and then holding back the majority of the enemy team so they don't beat that lead. It's entirely justified...

The mode is limited time because for a league to work you need to confirm the participants of the league would consistently play.
If you have it run for too long you'll find people drop out or get ahead for simply playing more than others.
