Btw anyone remember that B$%&@ with the dragons, gym 8 of soulsilver? Or the one with the stop-punching-yourself Miltank?
How is it possible to clear that 8th gym without grinding for hours. You go from low Lv.30s to mid Lv.40s relatively quickly.
That made Lv.30s Graveler my best friend in grinding for a looooong time.
You think game design would have caught that, but hey it is supposed to be challenging to the kids right?

Weird things I remember from long ago.

Without getting into it too much, pokemon was the catalyst to me realizing that my upbringing was Not What I Thought It Was so I feel like it'll always be pretty important to me on some level because of that. That said I fall in and out of being involved with it. Usually I play through the mainline games whenever they release and then forget about it for a while but I will pick them back up if I have friends that are playing just to stay involved.

My favorite in-game hobby is breeding a bunch of nice IV/nature/egg move pokemon, giving them absurd nicknames, and then surprise trading them. I like seeing what random things I get and I hope the nicknames make someone laugh and if not maybe it makes reasonable breeding stock at least. IDK if anyone even cares about nicely bred pokemon anymore since bottle caps/mints/etc aren't hard to come by but I still find some relaxing satisfaction in it.

Update: oh my god the Pokemon TCG is such a gift.

I recently got into last week (the recently released app that reboots the TCG as a streamlined mobile game) - I was instantly hooked and have been playing it and learning the actual TCG ever since. The game is much simpler and comfier than I'd once assumed, even when it comes to building decks. Its hard to explain, but it feels weirdly personal compared to something like Magic, knowing that the cards I use consist of my favorite Pokemon that I've known for many years now This has felt like a portal back to the younger days when I first got into Pokemon, as if I've been given a second chance to fall in love with the series again.

Looking forward to Legends Z-A, I'm hoping it will give definitive answers and not leave things off as a mystery.

It finally happened.
I'm actually interested in the Pokemon franchise again after years of only really caring about Mewtwo and nothing else.
I blame it all on Pokemon TCGP for reminding me of how enjoyable it used to be to collect Pokemon cards and categorize them.
It's not as exciting as opening an actual TCG pack but it was close enough to get me invested in not just collecting but battling with decks.
The process of creating a deck that works well also gave me a very familiar feeling to what I get when I work on a weapon comp in Splatoon.

I still don't have a very positive view on the Pokemon franchise despite my renewed interest so I'm not going to go back and get into all the mainline games as I would have done when I was a kid.
Game Freak has done a terrible job managing their Switch titles and I don't see that changing any time soon, if it even changes at all.
Regardless, it's still a bit funny that my previous post in this thread has become outdated in just a couple of months.
