I personally think we might get one more splatoon game after this one but I’m curious to hear anyone else’s thoughts
I think it's more the end of the story that started with Splatoon 1 - the story of the New Squidbeak Splatoon and I'd argue also the story of what happened to the mammals. The implication/from what I heard & understand is that future entries would likely shift focus away from the NSS onto a new cast or new theme. Splatoon has a very interesting niche as an online shooter made by Nintendo with a distinct gimmick, and it's incredibly popular as a shooter, so there's no real reason they wouldn't continue with that in mind - although I do think a spin-off title is likely to some degree. My bet is that it'll be a rhythm game of some sort, since Splatoon's music has a lot of tethers to the worldbuilding/lore and is also full of earworms. From everything I've heard, this is the last sequel to occur in the current Splatoon universe. If there are any sequels, it won't be a classic shooter as we're used to
S1 remaster could be interesting, although from what I've heard the meta was kind of a mess. Still, it would be neat to have all the splatoon newcomers (like meeeee) get to experience some of the original splatfests (except for the promotion/crossover ones like Spongebob v Patrick, likely for legal reasons)I'm thinking there might be an S1 Remaster before an S4.
I definitely agree about the burnout aspect of 3. A lot of the time I feel pressured to get on everyday just because of catalog FOMO, gacha, etc, and it ironically tires me out more than a longer session and makes me not want to play sometimes. Its a shameIt's definite that there will be a Splatoon 4, just not for a couple of years. And I hope that there are a few years in the Switch 2's life cycle after it has been released before Splatoon 4 even gets teased. If there's one thing I hope they have learned from Splatoon 3, it's that they will take as much time as they need for Splatoon 4 so it can have a strong start. I don't want to see glitches that give gameplay advantages, I don't want to see constant disconnects, and I definitely don't want to see any form of season pass either, I hated that the catalogs essentially force players to keep playing the game if they want to get certain gear.
The thing I loved about Splatoon 1 and 2 was the fact that I could take a long break from the game to focus on other games I have, then when I was in the mood for some Splatoon, I could come back with renewed energy and that sense of fun. I unfortunately can't have that feeling when playing Splatoon 3 because of the catalogs.
