Got any headcanons?

Splatoon's been out for long enough that people have had time to come up with their own ideas on Inklings and Octolings and their squishy slightly horrifying squid offspring, what's your thoughts? I'm still picturing an Inkling parent being trailed by a bunch of perpetually confused half-humanoid squid children.

I had this idea that Turf Wars were in part to give a positive outlet to the fact that Inklings can, apparently, crate positivity massive amounts of Ink. I mean, if you could do that, and couldn't get any of it out, it would get quite frustrating after a while. Combine that frustration with youthful rebellion and things get messy very very quickly.

Octarians and Inklings used to be friends but the Inklings struck first in what would later be known as "The Great Rift." Inklings were always hungry for more turf you see and invaded the octarians homeland. The octarians were forced to move underground and live on dirt. The dirt contained lots of iron though and through that iron they changed into the octarians as we know them today.

it's time for some headcanon

Turf wars are used as an outlet for pent up emotion and battle training as well as entertaining the teenage squids. We all know how crappy it can get when you hit that age, and in the event of an Octopus invasion, the older kids will be capable of defending themselves and their younger siblings.

Inklings live in a socialist society with relatively little dangerous conflict. Aggressive debates and fights that are bound to deteriorate can be settled by pitting both sides against each other in a match. Neither side can go off screaming or bragging at each other afterwards and are expected to show some respect.

The Octopi are an eusocial species split into different physical castes. Octolings are the top bunch and lead by an even smaller division of superior Octolings. In the event one of them is removed in some way, the lower ranking members fight for their position.

The Octarians lost the war because of the significant physical differences between them and their Inkling rivals, so 100 years post-war they resort to more covert tactics and aim to drain their territories of electricity prior to mounting a full-on attack. Then some annoying Inkling pops up and ruins everything.
