I'm getting mixed responses, so I'll ask for clarification. Say the first game is on Walleye Warehouse and we lose. The second game is on Kelp Dome. Are teams allowed to use a different set of 4 members for the game on Kelp Dome?

From what I understand of the rules, sub's can only happen between rounds(ie:bo5) and not between games.
This. You may not swap team members mid set. You are locked into games 2, 3, 4, and 5 with the team that went in game 1. Team member swapping is allowed between rounds however..

If one member gets p/o, emergency, etc, while in game _, can we sub in another?

Alright, this should be more or less our final roster. I'll update if there's anybody else. (I'll update aweshucks NNID once I get it)

I know it might be a little late to post my opinions on this, but I didn't know it wasn't possible to switch players between matches until just a while ago.

I personally think you should be able to swap out team members between matches in rounds. What thepyrosgod said is one of the first things that can go wrong, which is a good point.

The tournament is a team effort, but you can only use 50% of your team in a round? We, as a team, obviously like to win, but in the end it's all about fun. We'd like to give the opportunity to everyone in my team to play, but by locking 4 players to a round this limits me in doing so. We're kind off forced to choose between having fun and playing to win, while if we can switch players between matches it can be balanced. Our team wants to try and win games, if we make it farther we can have more fun. So if we could switch between games, we would always start with our strongest line-up, then we can gauge if we need to continue playing with the strongest team or if we can send out the other guys if we are clearly better than the opponent.

Let's say my team sends out the strongest team we have in the first round, but we have stiff competition. We keep playing with our strongest line-up, because we want to win, however we end up losing. Now we're only one loss away from being eliminated, but only 4 of us have played. We now have to choose between sending in the other 4, so they can play a match too, or still sending in our strongest team so we don't get kicked out immediately. Switching members also gives teams more ability to adapt and change strategy between matches, it's always nice to give teams more options, right?

To offer a different perspective:

A big part of playing another team is "downloading" the opponent, and getting to know their playstyle while playing. If they switch out players between games, you are unable to do that, and that gives a significant advantage over teams with "only" four players.

Well, it's all about how you tackle it. As a team of 4, how would you deal with this? If you'd ask me, I'd say "fake" having more members in your team. And what I mean with that is; have different load-outs ready for people in your team. Of course there are differences between a player switching out and a player switching gear, you have had a peek at the habits of the player that switched gear.

The issue is then more that we have different sized teams, instead of the issue at hand which is "can we switch out players". If every team had to enter with 8 people, the point you bring up (which IS a "legit" point and can be advantageous for a team) wouldn't have to be brought up.

I'm also sure switching out players can be disadvantageous. You have to keep in mind that a player that drops out is one less player your team has downloaded, but that player may have also "downloaded" your team. Of course, this new player will probably get tips on the other team, but I think it's easier to adapt when you have actually played against someone than to just "hear" how to adapt.

:D ^.

With regard to the substitution...
There could be a limit on how many subs u get within a round. I still feel we should keep the ruleset as is for this tourney.

Like I said earlier, guys, if we don't try certain things, we won't know if they work. Let's stick with the current ruleset for the tournament, and we will see how the tournament runs overall. We can try different things later with other tournaments. This is a testfire.

This is a competitive tournament. It is up to you who you decide to use for a given round, whether you have players you would like to get games at the expense of your chance of victory, that is your decision. It should be noted though, your subs are part of the team not just to play in matches, these should be players you are comfortable using in place of anyone else and more than likely specialists for a particular game mode. Forcing fixed teams means you aren't giving a more significant advantage to teams with a larger roster than you have to.

Realize that contributions to a team don't always come in the form of games played. My team is who I practice with and form strategies with, as the squad leader, it is up to me to decide who I'm putting in for each round, and my team understands that we win and lose as a team, not just on the performance of players in a match. If people want to play that badly, they should form their own team instead of being members of an already populated squad. That's my 2 cents on the matter

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say thank you for everything! I never imagined that this tournament would be this big. Me, and probably most of the TOs if not all, planned on only 8 teams. I feel so greatful that you guys are willing to show our love for this game by showing that is possible to play at a competitive level.

I would like to thank Protom a lot for everything he has done over the last couple of days because he has done a lot of work for the tourney while I was out and away so thank you so much!

I would also like to thank the streamers that are making this tournament possible by showing us what Splatoon is and how awesome this game of our is.

I would like to thank Nintendo as well, for making possibly the most fun game that I have played in the past 3 years. I <3 Nintendo

Lastly I would just like to say thank you to everyone who is participating. It is a great honor to be hosting this with some of my buds and we can't wait to see who either Inks or Sinks (Pun intended).

Thank you everyone and good luck in the tournament!

lol I can totally see this being a gameshow title where the crowd chants "INK.....OR.....SINK!!!!!"

On a different note, good luck to all 64 teams participating! I can't wait to see who comes out on top. I will try to be catching all of the action on Twitch.

One thing to remember for everyone participating: While this is a competitive tournament and we're trying to start judging the big names in the community, the most important thing with this tournament is to HAVE FUN. We're also developing a community here. Don't get overly competitive, be respectful, and most importantly, have a good time.

Hey guys since this is such a huge event.
Can we please think about all of us creating awareness that Splatoon NEEDS a spectator mode? Like on the official stream, have the commentators or possibly on the layout? Have a tweet to Nintendo that everyone can retweet? Something along those lines.

As I know you must have already realized how much of a hassle it is without something along those lines, and this is just for 2 player's perspectives. It would be nice if we had an update where we could have a 9th person (the streamer/spectator) into the custom lobby, who would be able to have all 8 perspectives.
Please consider spending a little bit of time, multiple times asking viewers and players (on the stream) to retweet whatever message you make. Also miiverse is good too.

Just putting it out there

I'm a supporter of this movement myself. It would make watching/commentating these things so much easier.. Asking viewers to retweet is an excellent idea. I'll make sure to tell whoevers behind the IoS twitter (I believe its @AKA ) to do so ;)
