My theory on the possible story of Side Order

It's no secret that the story of Side Order will be a big deal. With Inkopolis Square being abandoned with a huge emphasis on the past. Now it's way too soon to confirm whether the character we play as is Agent 8, but if the character is indeed Agent 8, then it could explain the idea of confronting the past and why there are things like neurons and an octopus brain being suddenly shown. Remember that the results at the end of stories in the single-player modes aren't just personal, but also affect a large population as well.

This was always the case for Splatoon stories, even Octo Valley and Octo Canyon, the only reason why the Octarians stole the Zapfish in those modes is for their own survival which they were starting to get desperate. There is a Sunken Scroll from Splatoon 1 that confirms this. The defeat of DJ Octavio in both of the aforementioned modes only made the lives of Octarians worse in the long run. In Octo Expansion, if Commander Tartar isn't stopped, it would have annihilated a city full of Inklings and (later) Octolings. Finally, if Mr. Grizz wasn't stopped, he would've forced all of the Inklings and Octolings of Splatsville and possibly the world to turn fuzzy.

So, I think that the Octoling will help the Octarians go to the surface to allow them to start a new life, much like how many Octolings did during Splatoon 2. It will not be easy for this character to confront the past, as we see the Octoling looking at her own reflections in some of the artwork, possibly being insecure about being reminded that she's an Octarian herself. However, at the end of the story, the rest of the Octarians would finally get the life on the surface they always wanted.

Now the reason why I bring up the idea of the Octarians finally getting a happy ending despite the challenges (both internal and external) that will happen while doing so is because if you go to the Hotlantis while in Inkopolis Plaza, you will see an Octarian tentacle in the bin (what your character usually obscures when the store is visited in Splatsville). And not just any color, but the red often associated with the Octarians of Octo Valley and Octo Canyon, so we know it's not fuzzified, but it definitely confirms that it's not sanitized either.
