The heck, there's so many Team squid members that they have to face each other??

I don't even...lol
This happens in every Splatfest, though to different degrees depending on the votes. Sometimes, the most popular team keeps getting matched up with only members of their team, or like with Art vs Science, once or twice during the entire time someone's been playing, like it happened to me. It's just so that players don't have to wait even longer for a match-up.

And the results are in!

Yeah, looks like playable Octolings aren't going to be a thing anytime soon.

Seriously, though, that is a huge turnout of Squid supporters compared to Octopus supporters. I know that Squids are the good guys and Octopi the not-so-good ones, but still!

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't this splatfest sponsored?

Yes, it was. It was sponsored by Kurazushi. I don't know if it's a restaurant chain or a manufacturer of pre-packaged sushi, however.
