So uhh.... This just came out of nowhere

Nintendo switch 2 trailer there is a good bit to say about it here so I'll start with some of my own thoughts

- The joycons are a nice upgrade to the switch I honestly hope that the joycons are improved over the original joycons since they nintendo switch 1 joycons are known for being flimsy in my opinion.

- Cross compatible with nintendo switch 1 games. I'm so freaking relieved about this there was this little fear I had that all the nintendo switch 1 games will not be playable on the nintendo switch 2 and I didn't want to keep switching between the first and second switch everytime I want to play a nintendo switch 1 game.

- Mario kart 9? It looks like the game has the same artstyle as super mario wonder which honestly looks cool.

Overall I'm hype for the switch 2 and the current changes I saw are pretty cool and I'm looking forward towards the other changes to the switch 2 that might be revealed sooner or later.

The whole trailer is basically the Switch going through a Sailor Moon/Magical Girl transformation 😱

Also the whole "Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2" warning. So ominous lol.

It seems more like a Switch XL in a way. We'll know more on April 2(?). Better get your ¥¥¥/$$$ ready!

I really hope they fixed the Joycon drift problem this time. Also, I hope that they will let us transfer our Splatoon 2 data to the Switch 2 in some capacity. I went through too much frustration in Splatoon 2's Ranked Battles not to let me transfer it there.

Oh and I hope they also fixed the problem of Joycons randomly turning off during gameplay when attached to the actual system.

this trailer reads like an apple commercial to me. look the joycons are black now!!!!! that means it's advanced!!!!!!!

anyways my hot take is that i don't like how the new joycons look visually. not functionally. i don't like how they basically completely removed the one thing that you could customize your switch with

There is ONE little nugget of info I want to talk a little bit about...

Look at how many starting places there are. 24. This could end up meaning nothing but let's talk about what happens if it does mean something.

For one, mods of this already exist. There's a Mario Kart Wii online mod that does exactly this - expands the number of people who can play in a race to 24. Check this video out if you want to see. You can ignore the King Boo on the minimap at the start since he messed up and loaded a different race track with his mod pack. Also, at one point in the second race, someone says that "items are hard to come by," which I can't imagine being the case in a game designed around 24 player, especially if it keeps Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's item box mechanics.

Being in the middle of the pack always looked pretty chaotic in this mod and it looks fun to me. The first comparison I can draw is the one many people make to Double Dash with a bunch of huge items flying about everywhere. Sounds crazy, but perfectly in the spirit of a Mario Kart game and the kind of crazy that a lot of people could end up enjoying in a similar way to Double Dash. I'm not sure what would draw the line for being "too much" for most people but since we're all Splatoon players here I'm sure none of us in particular will be too bothered by it lmao

Otherwise, I think this could end up making it even stronger to be in the back of the pack? Being in the front might be worse because of there being more Blue Shells although this is something Nintendo could easily tweak, and being in the middle of the pack will 100% be worse because of the sheer amount of items flying around that you'll be dodging or getting hit by. This leaves only the bottom spots that would feel unaffected which is a buff by comparison. I'm not sure how Nintendo will feel about this. Deliberately staying in lower spots for stronger items was already at its strongest in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and it's an incredibly controversial strategy that Nintendo has already been taking steps at stopping.

Second popular Mario game for the Wii that I mention here, but an issue that worsened New Super Mario Bros. Wii for a lot of people was that the stages were a lot bigger and felt emptier. This was as accommodation for up to 4 players being on a stage at once and I could see similar applying here, especially if you look at the one track we're shown. Very wide, very empty. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from this since it's most likely the first track in the game and I don't even see it being a huge deal breaker anyways but yeah. Did you see on the starting post that it's called Mario Bros. Circuit, by the way? They really couldn't do anything even a little bit more creative with the track's awesome theming huh.

That's about all I have to say. I'm still going to be holding out hope that this game is a bit more interesting mechanically than Mario Kart 8 was. I don't have much faith in that since 7 and 8 both felt very similar and a lot of what made DS and Wii so fun to me felt like accidents but we'll see. If nothing else this game will probably feel very different from 7 and 8 by default if the stuff about widened tracks is true and I'm curious to see how that'll force them to handle retros if this is all the case.

EDIT: I completely missed this but if you pay close attention in the last shot, yeah there are totally more than 12 racers coming up from the bottom of the screen lmao. This is 100% going to be 24-player.

okayyy i'm home now (nintendo announced this while i was in class they hate me) so i can actually articulate my thoughts more

- they actually called it the switch 2. lmao. reaaaaaaally trying to avoid a wii u situation there huh

- regarding me not liking how the joycons look: ok it does objectively look like, sleek and cool, but i really don't think that's how nintendo consoles should look, yk. they're not steam or sony, they need more of that nintendo charm to it especially when that was already pretty lacking in the switch 1's menu

- somehow that stand on the back looks more flimsy than what we have now

- the magnetic attachment is good but by god i hope that mechanism doesn't break easily

- when i first watched this with some of my nerd friends i just said "steam deck 2?" at the end and i think you all should know that

- please fix joycon drift nintendo. please. you have had 8 years to figure this out. please

I've said this before in a previous thread, but all I want out of this is 1080p and 60 fps if at all possible. I know the power of a console isn't the be all end all when it comes to making good games for a console, but it doesn't hurt either. There are so many games that the current Switch struggles with because of it being underpowered. For example, when I play Batman: Arkham Knight I notice a ton of slowdowns and in some cases the game just crashes completely.

Even a game like Splatoon 4 which this board is about could benefit. With improved graphics and a smoother frame rate think of the innovations they could make with some of the gameplay and core mechanics. The visuals aren't bad by any means but it couldn't hurt to add a few more polygons and touch up on the art style either.

First off, no joycon drift would singlehandedly be the greatest upgrade imo. It feels so unnecessary that we have to send our controllers in for replacements or buy completely new joystick parts or even new controllers. I know many people agree that pro controllers are usually just better, especially for docked play, but sometimes joycons are simply more convenient for me. I've even heard of people who take good care of their joycons experiencing drift...

That aside, I look forward to some of the new titles we'll get and how they might utilize the extra power of the console. I mean, Mario Kart with more than 12 racers sounds super fun, chaotic, and painful all at the same time (mostly fun though!) Also hoping the battery life is decent.

Pokemon Legends ZA for switch 2? Perhaps... would be kinda neat...

Anyway, looking forward to April!

Edited for spelling

All of my joy, con gear is useless 😩😭 Oh well thoughts are: Now that there's gonna be a mouse feature will a web browser be implemented, Will switch one controllers still be able to be paired, We know the games are forward compatible, but what about backwards? And oh my God, the new stand will fix everything about Table top!

I've had some time to think about the Switch 2 so I'll just give my brief thoughts here.

The system looks fine. It's basically what we expected with all the Switch 2 leaks and even if pictures of the console weren't released, I wasn't expecting them to completely abandon the current look of the Switch.
Attempting to make it look significantly different could have been a problem and I'm glad that Nintendo avoided that.
I will say though, this reveal felt extremely casual.
Just dropping it on a random Thursday? I understand that a lot of people have already seen what the console looks like but to save this reveal for so long to then immediately release it with no announcement was a weird choice.
I didn't expect the MK9 gameplay though. That was really nice to see and gave me some excitement for the future first-party games that will inevitably be released alongside the console.
I'm confident that the new Mario Kart game will be included in that list and I'm hoping to see some sort of teaser soon for a new 3d Mario game.
The most important thing about the Switch 2 though is if it actually improves on the flaws of the previous console.
There's absolutely no excuse for Joycon drift to continue being a prevalent issue so hopefully the Switch 2 ends that era of terrible and overpriced controllers.

I'm cautiously excited. I don't want to get my hopes up too high for lots of improvement, but it does look good so far!
I'm more excited about the games that can come with this new console (and elimination of joycon drift Nintendo PLEASE)
