QuagSass
Inkling Commander
Hey, hi! It's me, Quag again :)
But this time I'm not here to talk about Splatlings :0 (though one will be mentioned)
Recently a tournament called MIKU MIKU BEAM!!! #2 was announced which awarded winners with a Hatsune Miku badge for sendou. And as an avid vocal synth fan whose second favorite synth is Miku herself, I had to join.
Now normally, I don't talk about my tournament experiences much. I feel like I don't have as much to say about each individual tournament I join the way some folks here might have. But this tournament was kinda special. Both because of the theme of the tourney and also other circumstances surrounding it. So it only felt right to talk about it.
So here's my experience playing MIKU MIKU BEAM!!! #2 and how the pickup I formed won the iron bracket.
First thing you need to know about this tournament is that it was at 8pm EST.
I'm european.
This tournament started at 3 am my time.
I'm not the kind of person to stay up late. I am an adult with a job I need to wake up to. Also I just enjoy sleeping :)
I had the weekend free, so I could afford to mess up my sleep schedule a bit. But that still didn't change the fact that I was not used to staying up that late.
But not only did it start way too late for me, my team WIP In Progress was also doing Little Squid League that same day. LSL started at 8pm my time, so I figured I could barely squeeze Miku Miku Beam into the night as well. But it would be unfair of me to ask my team to both do LSL and MMB as well as stay up past midnight.
So I asked in the Octo Airlines server if people could form a pickup with me. Biiiig thanks to @isaac4 , @chaotik0 and @Grushi for joining me on this mad quest of mine!!!! And an extra special shoutout to Grushi especially for doing this, the tournament was at 2 am for him lol. I was fully expecting only the americans to be interested. But thanks to all of them Sleep Deprivation :) was formed!
I was really happy with the comp we ended up going for. We experimented a bit before the tournament, but during it we basically only played Decav/Stamper, vEdit, Slosher and both Tents.
Tent and Splatling was a combination I had wanted to try out with Grushi for a while and now it finally came to fruition! Granted instead of the Hydra/Tent combo I fantasized about, I instead played vEdit for the entire tournament. A fact that the team did seem to kinda feel bad for me for. But it's ok! To me playing Splatlings is all about the main and not the kit. I would not be able to stick with them all this time if the mains themselves weren't so compelling to me.
Even with a different kit, Edit was still Edit. And it's still one of my most played weapons.
In a way putting me on vEdit the entire time was a blessing in disguise. Halfway through the tournament I had basically fully lost my grip on reality. I could no longer tell how many matches we'd played and I had a difficult time hitting shots that would normally be easy for me. I always have a slight stutter in my speech, but now I could no longer form sentences without stuttering every single word in it. On top of all of that, I had a massive headache from the get go due to taking a nap between LSL and MMB (don't take naps, they're evil)
It was honestly a miracle that I could still do callouts at all.
Fortunately vEdit can be a tad brainless depending on the team it's in. We had plenty of fighting power in the Swords and Bucket, so I could afford to turn my brain off and play more passively. My Cooler placements were a bit off at times, WIPIP doesn't run Cooler anymore so I was horribly out of practice. But the muscle memory was mostly still there. I think I did a decent job staying alive and popping Coolers. Having Tent shield around was also so so nice for pushes. Ahh, really made me wish we had a Tent player on WIPIP.
Before I knew it we were in the finals of the iron bracket and we had won. I went into this thinking that we'd get eliminated pretty quick and yet here she is. Hatsune Miku on my Sendou profile.
And since it was iron bracket and not gold, her design is based on the song Confessions of a Rotten Girl by SAWTOWNE!!!! She's so cute, I love her!!!!!!
Honestly, this is probably my greatest accomplishment as a competitive player. Getting Low Ink banned or getting voted into plus servers would not be anywhere near as important to me. Only thing that could be better than this would be getting a Kasane Teto badge on my profile (which the TOs did say might be a thing they'd do!)
Again big thanks to everyone on Sleep Deprivation :)! 100% could not have done this without you guys (and I'm not just saying that cause you need 4 people to join). I had a great time playing with you guys, even if I was kinda stuck in a hazy trance the entire time.
