I will be starting a new chain of threads with predictions for the third kits Nintendo would give each weapon, based off of previous kits in Splatoon and Splatoon 2 as well as the general direction Nintendo has been taking the game, and we're starting out in the thick of it with the shooter class. Fortunately, shooters are one of the classes most rich in third kit material from previous games, so we have a lot to work off of.

Sploosh-o-Matic 7
Splat Bomb + Triple Splashdown

Starting out easy with a Sploosh 7 that combines the standard Splat Bomb with the Triple Splashdown from Splatoon 2's vanilla Sploosh. The kit would be pretty decent and distinct from other object DPS weapons.

Fresh Splattershot Jr.
Angle Shooter + Ink Vac

Taking my first bit of creative license with Jr., in Splatoon 2 it was given the Cool New Sub Weapon on its third kit, and I see the same thing happening in Splatoon 3 with Angle Shooter. The Ink Vac fills a similar role to its Bubble Blower from Splatoon 2. This kit wouldn't be good, but it would be funny, and on-brand for the developers.

Splash-o-Matic 9
Toxic Mist + Zipcaster

A theory I heard recently suggests the reason the developers scrapped Splash's beta kit of Burst Bomb + Zipcaster is because they feared the special would be overpowered on the weapon in low-level play, what with its perfect mid-air accuracy. Well, Toxic Mist both helps fix that issue and is a notable reference sub for the weapon.

Aerospray PG
Burst Bomb + Super Chump

Aerospray's existing kits already reference the two specials the PG had in previous games, leaving room for creative license. Burst Bomb is classic for this kit, giving Aerospray a tool to make it significantly less pathetic in fights. Super Chump works very well with the main and sub of the kit, offering disruption that can be played off of aggressively. It just feels right.

Squidbeak Splattershot
Burst Bomb + Inkjet

Burst Bomb and Inkjet are two very obvious kit references that are proven to work well with the main, especially together. While unrelated to the actual contents of the kit, I feel like the weapon having Cuttlegear branding (hence the name) would be a nice nod to the Hero Shot and Octo Shot replicas of previous games. Not like that's actually happening, but still.

Kensa .52 Gal
Point Sensor + Booyah Bomb

I was debating Reefslider as a third kit option for this weapon, but it really wouldn't be the Kensa .52 Gal without its Booyah Bomb. Fortunately, the only remaining reference sub is Point Sensor, so the kit wouldn't be nearly as overpowered as it was previously.

N-ZAP '83
Sprinkler + Kraken Royale

They can't all be winners. The '83's options included Point Sensor, Sprinkler, Kraken (Royale), and Ink Storm. I figured that this would be the best combo for maintaining diversity among short-range shooters. I can see some players having fun with this one.

Berry Splattershot Pro
Torpedo + Ink Storm

Hopefully this weapon would have a color scheme easier on the eyes in this game. Ink Storm references the weapon's obscure vanilla kit from Splatoon 2, while the Torpedo is new for it. The sub and special both have excellent combos with the main, making up for its weaknesses without clearly defining any strengths. A perfect generalist.

Kensa .96 Gal
Ink Mine + Wave Breaker

I hate to step on Nova's toes with this one (no I don't) but .96 would make for a much better location-based shooter. Both the sub and special combo with the main, making it only require one shot to splat. Also, Wave Breaker references its old Echolocator from Splatoon 1. I envision this weapon having a primarily white color scheme to stand out from K.52.

Dual Pressure Jet Squelcher
Burst Bomb + Kraken Royale

I'm not robbing this weapon of its OG Custom kit, not even to enhance the Dual Squelcher reference. Jet players have waited long enough to have a decent kit in Splatoon 3, and who am I to argue when it gets them off of their snipe?

Galactic Splattershot Nova
Splat Bomb + Trizooka

Because Nova is still brand new, there's really nothing to go off of for what the developers could do with it. Giving it vClash's uber-aggressive kit would be really funny, really good for it, and not outside the realm of possibility. Splat Bomb's splash damage makes it a three-shot splat, and Trizooka's splash damage makes it a two-shot. This kit would be very fun to use.

Lemon L-3 Nozzlenose
Angle Shooter + Inkjet

It's no Burst Bomb, but Angle Shooter is able to combo with two of L-3's shots after its damage buff. If I wanted to be realistic, this thing would definitely get Splash Wall and Inkjet, but I actually think that Angle Shooter is better for it. I should probably also touch on Inkjet being perfect for this weapon and among the most requested reference specials for anything.

Cherry H-3 Nozzlenose
Suction Bomb + Crab Tank

In the politest way possible, screw vanilla L-3. Crab Tank is perfect for H-3, not only serving as the perfect middle ground between its remaining unreferenced specials, but also having excellent synergy with the main weapon. If the two can share a Splash Wall in Splatoon 2, they can share a Crab Tank in Splatoon 3. As for the Suction Bomb, it's a fairly obvious choice for a reference sub.

Pinot Squeezer
Sprinkler + Killer Wail 5.1

Squeezer doesn't have much worth referencing from Splatoon 2 and clearly doesn't care about reference in Splatoon 3, so this is my prediction. Killer Wail 5.1 pays tribute to its vanilla kit's Sting Ray in Splatoon 2 while offering an entirely different, more active playstyle. Sprinkler helps make up for its paint weakness and also limits its aggressive power with the Wails.

Thanks for reading through the post. Feel free to offer your own predictions in the comments.
The next instalment will most likely cover Rollers and Brushes together.
Until then, have a wonderful day.

Jr. with Angle Shooter sounds like such a funny idea and I would love to see it actually happen even if I wouldn't play it myself.
Perhaps being on a shooter that the devs clearly care about being good would allow the sub to get some real meaningful buffs? Probably not but it's the best chance it would get.

I don't have a lot to say about the rest of the kits though since I'm not particularly interested in the shooter class.
Despite that, I really like the idea you suggested for a .96 Gal third kit design.
