Wanting to deviate from Splatanas to broaden repetoire. I know the advice may boil down to ‘mess around and see what works’, but I’d highly appreciate ideas for mains to try out from the community - in hope of sharing my progress!

So I main Wiper Deco (and have 4*ed it), a little bit of vWiper and have tried Mint Decav a few times. I use it - more so hope to once I improve lol - as a means of pushing frontlines and to be a distraction. To my knowledge this falls squarely into skirmisher which I greatly enjoy being, but I like using the support aspect of Beakon to my advantage even though the lack of a bomb is something I sorely feel. I really only play SZ and TC when it comes to Anarchy. Overall, mix of front and midline play - right at the action but able to retreat slightly if needed, if that makes sense?

Sloshers and Brellas (of all things) have always appealed to me with the similar high mobility of the former, and…I just think Brellas are neat, but I have zero idea where to start with them and if any would fit what I’m comfortable doing. Though I’m wondering about delving more into the support realm, maybe…

Any thoughts would be very appreciated. If any other specific questions may help, please send them over.

You say you want a weapon that can fight well up close, but still be able to do things at a distance, be able to skirmish, and be more on the supportive side of things. Wiper Deco is a pretty obvious fit, there. For secondaries, the first thing to come to mind is Slosher, since it's a decent slayer both up close and at a distance, and its kit comes with Triple Inkstrike as a kind of support tool. It is a little lacking in the mobility department, though.

One option I'd recommend you consider is REEF-LUX. The weapon has ridiculous mobility and plays more toward support, it can work well up close if you know what you're doing, and its range is relatively similar to that of Splatana Wiper and Decavitator. It's a weapon that's easily overlooked due to how unique it is. Do note that there's a special overlap with both it and Wiper Deco having Tenta Missiles. That may be a pro or con depending on how you look at it.

only two matches into Tower after a bit of practice in the lobby with the REEF-LUX and it immediately feels comfortable to me - even if I’m blindly firing around a bit and clearly don’t know very much of what I’m doing. first time a weapon has clicked like that since Wiper, which…pretty good sign

Edit: Pretty funny to think that DWiper falls pretty much exactly into what I want most out of a main - it’s so specific yet it checks pretty much every box. Getting out of the comfort zone is fun - just not wanting to throw myself so in the deep end I’m completely clueless you know?

Hear me out n-brush: mobility, beacon, and support :) good for tower too (join the small brush comunity here...)
Not as sure on NOcto, but I have a feeling it’ll grow on me with time! I’ve faced some truly terrifying users of it on TC and hope one day, if all goes well, I could maybe become one of them >:)

Supportive, mobile skirmisher sounds like Dualie Squelchers to me. CDS has a very similar kit to Wiper Deco but the ink efficiency might be worse than you're used to and it may take some time to learn both the spacing and proper utilization of the jump tech.

you’ll never guess what I mained in 2 actually…might come back to them, i still kinda have the muscle memory. was specifically v squelchers. tbf I didn’t play nearly as often as I have since this year. didn’t know any technical community language at all (wasn’t at all involved in it until now) - but it’s pretty cool to introspect the fact I’ve always enjoyed playing this sort of role even if I didn’t know it at the time. cannot remember what I played in 1 at all if anything

In my opinion I really like sloshers. Just very fun as a class, and a few of them are really high tiers

Did try a bit of vMachine earlier today and love it but the 220p special SEVERELY hurts it for me, so dropped it very fast. Might try again with Neo since I love how the main feels despite being very incompetent with Zooka

Agreed, and also base sloshed is a solid X tier weapon imo. But also dread, blob is funny, explo is decent in zones. Honestly very well rounded class. What’s sad is machine was played way too much for just the bugs at the start of 3

yeah, I adore the sheer diversity within sloshers - and makes total sense, what a shame :(

I think you should drop everything and only play splatlings :)

On a serious note, I think the Mini Splatling could be a good fit for you if you wanted to experiment with something a bit to the left of what's already been suggested.
It has the mobility and is a perfectly capable fighter on it's own. It's also an excellent support weapon, especially with the Zimi kit. Mini is a bit slower than Wiper and Reef-lux and not as much of a skirmisher, but it can still be one. It's in that perfect range of being both frontline-y and midline-y.
Alternatively there's Heavy Edit, but that might not be quite what you're looking for. It's charge time might make it a tad too slow for your tastes. But I don't know you, Edit could still be worth checking out.

Have played Mini a few times through…Salmon Run of all things, even though I know that’s a DRASTICALLY different context. How Salmon Run forces you to learn weapons you may never touch otherwise has succeeded its intent (at least I suspect) of making me gain appreciation for all classes’ quirks. I’ve not played OE yet myself despite being familiar with it as a DLC…I want to now, partially for this…despite the lack of the two* classes I play. Will definitely take a look at both Minis.

* you heard me! already 2-starred reeflux. well on the road to becoming my 2nd main alongside decav
