are autobombs sapient?

Yes but exploding is enrichment for them. They love it. If you DON'T throw autobombs and let them explode you're hurting it. Let it play explosions

They long for inkling and octoling contact, they definitely enjoy pets, but explosions are their love language.
If you listen closely to wild autobombs, you'll find that they emit a slight purring before they explode

Autobombs are incredibly loyal, even to those of a different colour. They're also very smart and know that exploding on inkfish usually splats them. They just love exploding so much they can't always stop themselves.
If you're nice to the Autobombs, they'll sometimes choose to explode on someone else in their radius. Just being able to show you their explosions makes them very happy. Be sure to always give Autobombs enthusiastic claps after they blow someone up :)

According to our studies, Autobombs have a similar level of intelligence to that of Bob-ombs, however they're far less organized because they lack a charismatic, mustachioed leader.
When they come out with the King Autobomb, we may all be doomed.
