Different/Custom D-Pad Commands?

Coming from a North American player, the "C'mon/To me" and "Booyah/Nice" commands aren't the most effective in a competitive setting. While I do understand the main purpose of both commands, I feel like I could be more helpful to my teammates with different commands. Two commands that I feel would be more effective would be a "Help me!" and a "Watch out!" command. I more so believe that "C'mon/To me" should be replaced with "Help me!" more than anything else.

Any input?

When in squad we do use some signals to compensate those 2 macros. For example: 2 C'mon = "Everyone calm down and build up special gauge", 2 Booyah = "Everyone use special moves to attack the splatzone".
I know it's not the best way to talk but's a workaround we found to deal without using skype.

I always find myself spaming the life outta the booyah button to try and warn someone about something
This is kind of the problem, and part of why the next Splatoon needs better commands. In a given match, if I don't know you I'm not going to be able to tell that from the usual command spam.

I've heard about that and seen that in matches, usually with Japanese accounts. Some will spam the "Booyah" whenever our base is being inked over while they're at base themselves.

Would be extremely nice to have some additional commands or some pre-programmed ones to pick, choose, and swap out as needed.

I think "C'mon" in the first place is kind of unclear and I would really prefer it if the NA version had "To me" instead.

I think it would also be nice to be able to tap parts of the map to indicate to others where to go, even if you aren't actually there.

Unclear as in it can be read as "Aw, c'mon! Really?! JEEZ!" as well as "C'mon! This way! Follow me!" I'm guessing?

Quick question: Does "C'mon" & "Booyah" show up for the opposing team when you use it? I use to use either one of those whenever I was splatted on account of lag or an awesome play. Would be nice if it got across to them.

That's precisely it. I recognize it's a small gripe, though. The intended meaning isn't -super- unclear, given the context, but it bothers me nonetheless. :/

Yeah, one thing that bothers me is the inconsistency in language between the versions. "C'mon" to my understanding means, "You can do it!" not, "Come here!". It'd be nice having the commands as universal, so everyone would have "To me" or something; just something that translates well across all versions.

Whenever I use the "Booyah!/Nice!" command to warn someone it usually flops. They'll just signal back and not understand that I'm saying, "I got splatted here, be careful!". I think it's understood more in higher level play, but in lower level play? Not so much.

And I suppose Haunt substitutes as a, "I got splatted here!" kind of thing, but then again you may want a more substantial ability instead and Haunt takes a bit longer to active compared to a simple command.

Yeah, it's kind of silly that a team-based shooter only offers two options to communicate with your allies, i guess they do it to halt griefing/spamming but it's still very lacking. Watch out/Warning would be excellent, esp. if it's possible to use it after getting splatted. Means i no longer have to spam Booyah/Nice every time i get shot.
Help/Follow/Ink Ground/Enemy Nearby/Go away/Defend/Push would all be great options, too. But i'd really like the ability to warn my allies the most without resorting to using Haunt.

I think in a sequel to Splatoon, the button D-Pad will be used to select super jump locations, since there will most likely be a minimap on the top screen since the will probably not be a gamepad on Nintendo's next game system. There will probably be a list of the other players, and a number assignment for every beacon, and there will be a list that you can go through at any time with the button D-Pad to select where you will super jump to.

I really hope that's not the case. I think the gamepad is really neat :c

Yeah, I also love the gamepad, but a lot of people don't like it, so I feel like they might not use it again. Nintendo loves to use unique controllers though, so they might.

Since we don't know anything about NX hardware right now its hard to make predictions about this, but offering a gamepad-like peripheral makes sense in the case that the NX is both home and portable. But this is a good idea for a workaround to the superjump function.

When I was watching the Koshien, teams used Nice as a warning after getting splatted. I guess this works well in squads, but not so much in solo.

It is annoying how they only used 2 of the 4 D-buttons. I think a "Watch out!" command for the right or left would perfect, especially if you could use it after getting splatted. A "Help me!" would be useful, but it might not be as useful as another command since it's close to "C'mon" as you're calling them to you. Of the commands @Elecmaw listed, I think a "Defend!" would be more useful to complete the D-pad.

"Watch out" is so important. Similarly, when there's not an obvious danger but you see one of your team mates advancing recklessly, a "slow the **** down" option would be nice (ie. Trying to catch up to a Rainmaker to escort them, and they go around a corner and get splatted because I couldnt catch up in time)

I think it could be set up like pokemon, have a bunch of preset messages to fit mode ”get on tower” ”gohead of tower” ”comeback to defend tower (i seen people attempt spwan camp when 40 left to go, 30, etc (we are losing and teammate not helping) that you can select ffor the arrows and please let all 4 be selectable so i can have ”to me” or ”come to me” or ”super jump to me” ok then english ”com’on”

Your weeb is showing.
Seriously though, how can you stand to write english with Japanese keyboard?

On topic: c'mon booyah wouldn't be too bad if everyone was on the same page about what they meant.

it is not easy and very annoying, I have to keep changing the settings. I am pratacing on typing in japeanse so settings flip around a lot.Keyboard > ばか (Not sure if there is a better word for that when refering to object though, I just started to learn and prataice)

I do not know how ”booyah” is conufsed, but I know c’mon is. Judd even has tips explaining the meaning but I do not think people read them.
