Money means I can live comfortably in this capitalist hellscape. If it's enough money to quit my dead-end job I hate, I'd be a lot happier. Anyone who tells you money doesn't buy happiness fails to recognize that poverty absolutely buys misery.

But my real passion is traveling out to major FGC tournaments, so perhaps that falls under team Experiences. It could still be team Money too, since my budget dictates how many events I can attend right now (for 2025, just Frosty Faustings and Combo Breaker).

Idk, I honestly, dunno, I think presents are nice, money is nice too, and having a nice experience is always good for me, but I don't personally put any over the other as a present, especially since I'm so introverted a lot of normal special experiences are just kinda meh for me... (like going to an amusement park, or something like that I think (I do have to add experiences like playing games with family or making good dinner is probably what would count as the best experience for me))
For example, last year my brother did a lottery for presents, and it was more fun than the present itself (I got money btw), but also the present led me to buying something cool that I like, and I know the experience is more irreplaceable but the thing I ended up buying is tied to it, so I honestly can't put one over the other in my mind, even if the experience is the more relevant part.

I might go with experiences since I always like going with Frye's team, but I might also just ask friends or something, I don't have a specific team I'm leaning towards.

what if someone else got it for you? as a present?

what if owning an irl hydra splatling opened the doors for experiences you could’ve never dreamed of?
What about the maintenance? The upkeep? The firing ranges and dummies that I would need to keep my beloved Hydra happy? The chicken feed (inkfish) ? I would need a fair bit of money to do all that. Unless you're willing to give me all those as a present constantly and forever. Can't have any cool new experiences without having some of that cold hard cash first.

hmm this one is tough

gifts are material possessions, but from companions who are saying they know what you like

if they don't know what to give? just send money. it's an excellently-designed universal medium of exchange so you don't have to keep gauging relative values of different products in market-oriented economies.

experiences is the odd one out in my book. my memories of building bonds with others are a little muddy for... reasons...

from what i hear, the main predictors of long-term happiness are:
- a mainly-internal locus of control
- keeping a cool head when facing life's stressors (low neuroticism)
- treating life as a non-zero-sum game
- not facing sociological barriers due to a disability (social model of disability)

please, help me out here. i'm not sure which is "best".
