Had you ever dropped a weapon and if you did, why?

This is a question I'm pretty curious about since I seen it happen with a lot of people where they play a weapon that they think they're going to main only to drop it for one reason or another. I got a few I want to share and I'm pretty interested in what yall want to share.

Painbrush: Yea I honestly thought that this weapon would been my 2nd favorite weapon and it was for the longest time. That was until I 5-starred it you would think that after 5 starring a weapon I would love to play it more. But that was not the case instead I started to notice all of the flaws this weapon had. Mediocre kit, slow speed, not really all that good range, etc. And usually these things by itself don't deter me from playing and enjoying a weapon, but all together and we start having problems.

Tri-stringer: This was a weapon that I first picked up all the way back at the start of splatoon 3. I picked this weapon up mostly because I saw a lot of potential in this weapon being strong. There was also the fact that in splatoon 2 I played a bit more backline weapons (Mostly hydra) since playing aggro in 2 due to the game being more slower pace so I thought that the backline playstyle would transition over to 3 it didn't. Not only was the game more fast pace, but there was also the problem that Tri-stringer is not only hard, but the reward you get from learning the weapons is not really as much as you get from something like Splatana stamper. I still play the weapon every once in a while, it just not my main.

Tenta brella: To hard for my small goblin brain :(. Truth be told I didn't exactly know what this weapon is meant to do here. does it draw in enemy attention?, Does it play for kills, Does it enable the team with a shield and vac like some sort of tank?, Maybe it's all three who knows. I also haven't played this weapon in like months at this point so I know that if I even try to play it I be more rusty than a nail that was submerged in water for 2 years.

Bloblobber, as i took a break from splatoon 3 for about 2 months. When i came back, the charm was gone. it just felt slow and clunky with two bad kits. I picked up octobrush and reeflux soon after, and now i mainly use jr, dynamo, and goo tuber.

The currently only weapon I have 5 stars on: Splatana stamper
I played the heck out of this weapon all the way till I got 5 stars on it in the first year of the game and then I stopped playing it because well...
the weapon is too hard and it only got harder the longer I played it because Nintendo had to nerf burst bomb and stampers ink efficiency
Now I still play stamper from time to time nowadays and I like the much easier Splatana stamper nouveau but I feel like I can't call a weapon my main when I don't feel confident when I play it

The slosher class has been my main focus for over a year now and that hasn't changed but I have dropped Octobrush and N-Zap '85.

Octobrush was my first main when I started playing Turf War but I gradually started using it less and less as I experimented with other weapons. Once I got to A Rank (or S Rank, I forget) with Machine then I made the decision to fully switch my main.
I did try playing it a bit after a season or two after but I just didn't care for the second kit it got, I was really hoping for Kraken Royale but oh well.
N-Zap '85 was very different since it was just a part of my weapon pool. I usually saved it for Splatfests but I did occasionally take it out in Open.
My main reason for even using it was just because it was a references to the NES Zapper. I thought that was really cool.
It stayed in my weapon pool for much longer than Octobrush but I stopped playing it around a year ago because I didn't like using shooters anymore.

I guess Custom Jet could also count as I did use it sometimes in Splatfests or Open but it didn't stay around for long. Mostly because the kits made the weapon less fun to play (this was even before I knew anything about comp or weapon balance).

Bloblobber. I have a love-hate relationship with this weapon’s design. The idea of a paint-focused mid- to long-range high-DPS Slosher that relies on a one-slosh splat and creative angles to make up for a complete lack of AoE is really cool. Its blobs travelling at the speed of honey and lingering on stage for a second and a half is not. I desperately want Nintendo to fix the weapon.

Relevant to the topic of the thread, I used to play Bloblobber Deco, but eventually the negatives of its design (and its lacklustre kit) pushed me to stop playing it. It’s one of few weapons I feel like I could main if handled properly, and I do still occasionally dig it up for splatfests, when toxic playstyles are the name of the game. Otherwise, it’s just not worth using.

vanilla Octobrush: a relic from a different time, quite frankly. I had trouble with aiming and using fighting subs back in S1. vOcto fixed all those issues AND it had a frame-1 panic special. I only played it for the entirety of S1's lifespan and the beginning of S3. But then I got better at the game and while I still love S3 vOcto dearly, I have grown as a player and just realised what I'm more comfortable with. I could still smack some fools with this thing tho. Beloved slappy stick <3

Tri-Stringer (both kits): These were my Humpback/Flounder/bad Splatling map pick for the longest time. But I eventually dropped it due to it being so unrealiable. That and the kits it had not really doing what I wanted it to do. I could see myself giving iBow another go at some point though. cExplo has taken it's spot for now and I don't think it's getting dislodged anytime soon.

Snipewriter 5H: Using it was just kinda miserable to me. It felt like a Splatling, but boring and lame. Didn't even have the satisfaction of hitting a direct like the Zekkofin or the E-Liter. Fighting a Snipewriter is much more fun than using it. Not a weapon for me.

A couple long-term ones for me in Splat 3. One's the Slosher, whose ink inefficiency and need to move back for its special go against my epicurean style of play. The other's Painbrush, whose kit choice impresses me, except the main weapon and special are undertuned.

I flex a lot (and/or have no attention span). I have never made a conscious decision to drop something, but I do gravitate toward whatever is working at the moment.

I think the most common reason that things stop working for me is that they fall off as my skill level increases, and I find that I can no longer push the weapon without taking a lot of Ls.

For me, examples of this fall-off effect have been; Inkbrush, L-3, Heavy, Blob, and Reeflux.

1st main: Dynamo Roller from when I started to get decent in Splatoon 2 until the first Chill Season. I dropped it because it didn't feel powerful and if I was gonna be big and slow I at least want to be strong. (The buffs over time have made it better but it's been far too much time spent away from the big guy for it to feel good)

2nd main: Big Swig Roller I saw this thing in the trailer and decided since Dynamo wasn't as fun anymore I decided to pick up Swig on release. Believe or not maining Swig at launch was just as bad as it sounded. On top of that I HATED using wall at this time and had no clue how to use it properly. So it that lasted for only that season as I was not having fun ( I did use this in X rank at the time and got like a 1800 X power so it was not good)

Then I went through a bunch of mini arcs with (Range,Light Tetras,Tent,) and some others that I can't think of right now before finding my beloved Hydra and I still haven't looked back

I'll just go over everything in the order in which I picked them up...
  • .52 Gal - Excessively easy weapon which made it super boring to play. I'll still play most weapons on this list on occasion but never this one. The Deco kit can be fun but not to the point where I'd ever go out of my way to play it.
  • Inkbrush - It straight up started hurting my hands out of nowhere. Very sad. I'd probably still love it today otherwise.
  • Tentatek Splattershot - Playstyle doesn't suit me. Can still be fun in coordinated settings but I'd just play Neo Splash in that case, which is more fun and more appropriate for the comps where you'd run this. That's all assuming I'm not on Decav.
  • Splatana Wiper Deco - Tenta Missiles fell off, but I still like this thing a lot. I stopped for a while because it got too difficult for me to be consistent with. Wiper is not easy to fight with when it doesn't have a sub or special that are particularly helpful for it. Still will play both kits occasionally.
  • Splattershot - I won't say this about a lot but I hate this weapon. Trizooka simultaneously feels like the easiest, the dumbest, and yet still the most frustrating special in the game to use because of its inconsistency. When this special got buffed I picked up the Splattershot despite not playing Tentatek in months and it was immediately my best weapon by a landslide, only really stopping being my best weapon after the Decavitator launched. I was a horrible player in every sense except I knew how to paint and use Trizooka so I was instantly made into a strong player. Awful.
  • Splatana Stamper Nouveau - I started to slow down with this kit after my mechanics with it got good enough for me to play the vanilla kit with alright consistency where I would then play both a lot, but I don't really play either much anymore. I have way more fun with the Decavitator and the upkeep with playing this weapon and not maining it is too much for me to handle at this point. If I spend too long not playing it then my mechanics on it just get so much worse. I'm better with the Decavitator than I ever was with either Stamper kit so there's not really much reason to continue as sad as it is to say.

When the game first came out I very begrudgingly settled on maining Sploosh just because it seemed to be the only weapon I could kind of sort of use effectively (no aim gang wooo) but I was kind of looking to drop it as soon as I could. Mostly because I didn't like ultra stamp (which was pretty broken at launch) but also because I wanted something more interesting than a shooter. I knew it just wasn't for me even though it was working for me.

Eventually I got to the point where my desire to use a weapon I found more fun was greater than my desire to Be Useful, so I switched to inkbrush and had a lot of fun until that started to take a toll on my hands. I guess you could say technically I dropped inkbrush too even though I didn't really play it for all that long to begin with (I stopped shortly after 4-starring it). It was fun but I wanted to play the game in longer sessions than my hands were allowing.

After that I tried out dapples and thus finally stepped into the class I belong in. I think deep down I kinda knew I ultimately wanted to be on dualies; I just figured I didn't have the skill for it so I had to kind of go through my process of getting there, hah.
