Panic. That's the word that I'd use to describe it. Every street. Every building. It's been nothing but mass chaos. It all started when that... thing appeared in the sky. Nobody really knows what it is, but we scientists have given it the temporary term: "Rift." Specifically speaking, the rift opened above New Inkopolis Tower yesterday. Since then, it hasn't done much except swirl around in the sky. Evacuation was recommended, but not required, as the rift seems stable and doesn't seem to pose a threat to common citizens. In a few moments, the team and I are going to take a closer look. It's possible that we may never return. A note detailing my will was left in the third drawer in the coffee room. Until next time.

[ Time: Unknown ]
[ Date: Unknown ]
[ Place: New Inkopolis ]

A large crowd was gathered around New Inkopolis Tower, staring at the large swirling vortex of presumed death. There was quite a bit of speculation flying around. The questions that seemed to be on everyone's mind, however, were:
"What is this thing?"
"Where did it come from?"
"What's going to happen?"
To ease the crowd, a short inkling in a stained lab coat shoved her way towards the front of the crowd.

"Um... H-hey! Uh... Settle down, e-everyone!"
But the crowd was too busy chattering to listen.
"Hey! E-everyone! Please!"
But she still did not receive any attention.
Having enough, the blue inkling placed a special pair of earmuffs over hear ears, took out a high-tech version of the classic squid phone and pushed a button on a special application, which in turn caused a high-pitched squeal of a noise to echo throughout New Inkopolis. Only after this, did she have the attention of the crowd.

"Alright. Now that I have your attention, e-everyone... I think it's important t-to cover the basics of the situation. Now, uh... my name is Dr. Sue Shi, and my team and I are here to investigate the rift. As far as we know, it is stable and
c-completely safe. We're here to confirm that though, so we will inform you all i-if something changes."

After these words, Sue returns to her team to address the issue of the rift.
About an hour of probing has passed, and the scientists continued to work with their full audience observing their every movement. Suddenly, something unexpected happened. Bright lights flashed from the rift, its swirling increasing in speed, and echoing voices cry out of its inner depths. Of course, this last bit confused the scientists, but their confusion was eased as an unidentified object fell out of the rift, and then another, and another. Suddenly, a large amount of objects began falling out of the rift and spreading about around New Inkopolis Tower.
@Rustic
Shen lands in a bush just inches away from the base of the tower. The bush broke his fall and he hasn't sustained any injuries, save for a few cuts here and there.
@MacSmitty
Tyler lands in a tree which also seems to have broken his fall. He falls down a couple of branches, just to land on a much larger and sturdier branch, which is a bit too high above the ground for him to find his way to the floor on his own. Tyler has sustained minimal injuries with a small cut on the top of his left hand.
@Zerul
Zerul, as luck would have it, fell out of the rift and onto an old worn out mattress that was left in a nearby alley way. It was soft enough to break his fall and he survived without a single injury, save for his unconsciousness.

Once all of the objects stopped falling from the rift, the giant swirling vortex in the sky closed and the skies were once again clear. Robots were sent to investigate the rubble that had fallen from the rift, most of which dated from the past. Then it struck her.
"It was a TIME rift!" cried Sue, face-palming. Then, something else struck her. "Quickly, send out the med-bots to search for anything that might be alive."
Soon, a bunch of robots were rushing about the wreckage, searching for any survivors.

Shortly after hitting the ground he starts to come around. he open his eyes and he could only see blurred shapes all around. He notices one getting larger and the sounds of something getting closer. he closes his eyes unable to comprehend what had happened, and passes out again.

Tyler crash landed on a thick tree branch with grunt of pain, and after balancing himself, he checked himself to find out that he was alright, only having several cuts on his body. Looking around, he noticed that he was in a location he never seen before. While getting ready to go down the tree, he noticed how high he was, and immediately began to hug the tree, shaking in fear. "Uh... Can somebody can get me down here?!" He shouts to the crowd watching from below.

"Ugh..." Shen groaned as he got up, lifting himself off of the bush. He rubbed his back, which hurt from his landing. Looking around, he saw various figures rushing around, before he started to wander around aimlessly. Examining his body, he noted that he only had a couple cuts.

He was looking at them until he bumped into something, he fell down from hitting the object. Shen looked up at it. "Inkopolis Tower!?" He said in disbelief, "Why am I here? This is the last place I want to be!" He walked out into the Plaza, coming into view of all the people there. "Oh boy..." He said, face-palming at his lack of attention to his surroundings.

The med-bots, alerted from the sounds of groaning and yelling quickly spread about to check out the situation.
@Zerul
First, they found a strange looking inkling lying on a old worn-out mattress passed out. They slowly picked up the mattress and brought it to the laboratory.
@Rustic
Then, they found an annoyed looking Octoling that seemed out of place. "Excuse us, sir, but you will be required to walk with us." Not taking no for an answer, they escort him to the lab as well.
@MacSmitty
Finally, they found an inkling stuck up high in a tree. With expert skill and precision, they retrieved the inkling from the tree and escorted him to the laboratory as well.

After some time, the same short blue-haired inkling walked into the room, stained lab coat and all.
"Oh... Um... Hello. My name is Dr. Sue Shi. As it turns out you all have been transported here through a rift that apparently cuts through the space time continuum. Now I know you all must have a myriad of questions.... Like.... oh... why is everything so futuristic... or... why are there robots everywhere.... Well... I might be getting ahead of myself here... Uh... Sorry... it's just such a big moment for science and history. Anyways... mind telling me your names before we continue?"

@Ikaheishi
Almost as quickly as the rift closed, a much smaller version opened up for a brief moment just to drop in an unsuspecting inkling who landed right on top of a large pile of garden clippings. It was large enough so that she wouldn't sustain any injuries.
The med-bots found her there and promptly escorted her to the laboratory, quickly barging in on Sue and the others.

"Another one? Well, don't be shy. Tell us your name too."

"Sure... Short-stuff." Shen brushed her off, smirking. "I'm Shen. And is it Take your Kid to Work Day? Are you lost?" He babied her. "Do you need help to find your Mommy?" He smiled, almost cruelly.

"Well, too bad." He snapped "I'm lost and I want answers. Now, Inkling." Shen angrily looked at her, crossing his arms and tapping his foot on the ground. "And what are these toys?" He pointed at the robots. "Those things are like puppies to my... old..." Shen trailed off, adopting a thinking gesture. "What happened to the Octarians? Do they live up here now, or did you let them sit on their bums in Octo Valley?" He probed, albeit harshly.

Tyler started having another one of his jittery muscle spasms as the Octoling answered, so following up, he responds, "My name is Tyler Aquatic. Why is everything around here so... futuristic?"

Zerul moans im pain his head was throbbing badly. He opens his eyes and notices he was lying in a medical bed. He slowly sits up and looks around the room. He was confused last thing he remembered was being sucked into a strange vortex then what looked like a cabinet smashing into him. As he looked around he noticed it was a quickly made medical tent there were lots of beds and people were being brought in. He gets out of bed and stumbles. He catches himself on another bed. He managed to make it to the entrance when he was stopped by a robot. "Sorry sir but you need to come with me"

The robot leads Zerul to lab where and was told to just stay. He took a seat and just leaned his head back against the wall. His head would not stop throbbing. He didn't have to wait long as the others showed up. When he hears someone talk about a time rift he looks over at a rather young inkling who was asking for everyone's name. A tall Octarain was the first to speak up. The octarain seemed to be rather rude. once he had a chance Zerul spoke up. "Zerul...and my head is killing me!"

Sue didn't seem to be paying much attention to the harshness of Shen's words, but rather the fact that he was speaking in complete sentences at all. She was busy writing down her observations.
@MacSmitty
Sue seemed a tad concerned with Tyler's muscle spasms but recorded her observations with him as well.
@Zerul
Surprised to see him come in as groggy as he was, Sue frantically wrote down her notes.

"Fascinating.... Fascinating...." Repeated Sue for a good few minutes.
When she was done, she addressed the questions in the order that she processed them.
"Now then, as for you," Sue started, looking at Shen, "You're in New Inkopolis. I don't understand why you're so hostile, though... Octarians and Inklings have lived together on the surface in peace since the Great Zapfish Treaty was signed." Sue turned her attention towards Tyler. "You're a jittery one, aintchya? Uhm... I don't know how to put this delicately..." Said Sue, addressing everyone now, "But each of you have been flung into the future from the past... or.. from each of your own respective time periods, I should say." Finally, Sue turned to Zerul and took a good look at the boy. "I'm surprised, from this report, they found you sprawled out on an old mattress. Any doctor worth their salt would have considered you dead. It's truly surprising that you're even here right now."

“W-What is going on?” Laura asked quietly, but nobody heard her. She thought to herself for a moment while everyone else was talking. Everything is so different… So much like… one of those science fiction shows on TV? What a weird dream… Laura slaps herself on the face.

Ouch! Pain. So, maybe this isn't a dream? But if it isn't a dream, then… what is this? Could she really be, somehow, in the future?

It was finally Laura's turn to speak up. “U-Uh… I… I'm…” This was getting to be a bit too much for her.

She took a deep breath and spoke: “I'm… Laura.”

Sue quickly writes down her observations on Laura.
"Well, that's good. All of you are capable of cognitive thought. Excellent. That makes my job much easier."

"Great... Zapfish... Treaty?" He repeated aloud, looking around. "Peace between Octolings and Inklings? Well, I guess it's better than living underground. It was crappier than living above ground with you Inklings." He fixed his coat, dusting himself off.

Shen looked behind him at the robots. "I get the feeling that if I walk away. I'm going to get dragged back here against my will, to perform a series of tests for your amusement?" He asked curiously, folding his arms once again.

Zerul listens to her explanations. "This is the future....no...no its not the future..you said it was the Great Zapfish Treaty that brought the inklings and Octolings together....The document from my time line was the United Turf Act.....where the hell am i...also..i was dead?"

"That's tempting... but no. We'll discuss what we're going to do with you all in a moment."

@Zerul
"Surely you jest. There isn't a record of a "United Turf Act" anywhere on the planet. If there was, I'm sure we would have heard of something so important by now."

“Oct… tarian?” Laura vaguely recognized the term, but she couldn't remember from where. She wondered about that rude old guy; He looked… weird. Then it hit her. That word… Octarian… Wait! It's something her grandmother mentioned in one of those bedtime stories… But, which story was it? Her mind felt so cloudy, and her cheek still hurt.

She spoke up again. “Um… Sorry, but… What are all of you talking about?”

"I don't know why, but coming from an Inkling, that doesn't assure me. At all." Shen muttered under his breath, looking back suspiciously at the robots behind him. Inadvertently showing a gadget on his back.

Before he turned back to Sue Shi. "So... Sue, what are we going to do? Some dumb open your mouth and say "Ah!" because that's all you can think of?" Shen jeered. "Well, all I can say is that this better be worth being sucked into some time-space hole somewhere, sometime." He said, walking around the room. "Especially from what that kid over there says..."

Zerul shoots Sue a rather mean look. "I am not lieing. The Great Zapfish Treaty is not something from where im from. and yet Inklings and Octarains live together in a somewhat peaceful life." He rubs his temples aruging was making his headache worse.

Sue simply stared at each of them in disbelief. How can lifeforms capable of cognitive thought be so rowdy.
Pondering the answer, Sue decides it best to consult with her fellow peers to determine what the best course of action would be to deal with the lifeforms from the past.
"Uh.... You all stay in here and... uhm... talk. I'm going to go over there and see what we're going to do with you all." And with that, Sue left the room leaving everyone to converse, just as a pair of large robots came and stood guard just outside of the door.

“S-S-See w-what y-you're going t-to do with us?!” The situation began to sink in. “W-What about…? A-Am I… I…? Zoe…? Dorni…? Grandmaaaaaaaaa…!?” Laura burst into tears as she realized she would never see her friends and family again.

Shen walked up to one of the robots, looking it over. Before stating a code-phrase. "Y9-15. Initialize factory reset authorization code Beta 93 Stratus." Without waiting for a response, he quickly walked away.

@Ikaheishi
"Stop your crying." He demanded. "I'm a scientist, albeit a 'mad' scientist. I believe I'm very sane, and that they're all mad." He added quickly. Although he noticed that he wasn't really comforting.
"Listen, Inkling. I can't guarantee we'll be getting back to our respective times. But you bet they'll probably do their best. I'll try to help with them, but I don't really understand all this technology yet." He tried to assure her, mainly because he didn't want to deal with a sniveling mess in an enclosed room. But Shen tried anyway.
