Hey guys, I majored in Japanese in college and now I live in Japan. I've been living here for about 4 years and my husband is Japanese. I'm studying for the N1 JLPT because I failed it a year back by a few points. T_T;
Hey!
Hope everything goes well!

If it's Rosetta Stone Im going to scream

It's so bad
I hate it so much

I read somewhere that it's more for intermediate learners (Rosetta's Japanese course) and after using it after learning some new things elsewhere I agree.
lol no way rosetta stone is stupid, I doing classes on facetime from a friend of mine's parents.

Oh yeah stay away from romaji like the plague
jesus christ romaji is the worst

Sure, it helps day 1 (well for me it did), but in my 101 class, there was this huge divide in students: the people who completely dropped romaji after week 1 or 2, versus the students who groaned at the very, VERY generous test rule of "starting with test THREE, romaji may not be used". Guess who ended up in 102 next semester.

I really want to learn Japanese, but I don't know where to start. I don't think classes are offered at the local college so I'm hoping to find some decent online classes... any suggestions for good ones? Also it makes sense to not stick with romaji and such since that's not what they write with commonly at all.

Well I currently don't have that money to spend, but Textfugu (which I hear is being turned to something else which I forget the name of) and Wani Kani looks really good. They both have free trials. Wani Kani is focused on Kanji, and Textfugu is more focused on other stuff (haven't seen it in a while)
But before then, you should check out Tofufu and their guide to Hiragana and Katakana. Unfortunately, there's romaji there, but it's how I learned the kana *shrug*
You can look up Japanese Masterposts on tumblr and find way more stuff than what I'm suggesting.

I never used tumblr and I don't really want to since I heard the community is incredibly hostile there from some good friends, so that's not an option. That aside, I'll take some time to look into the other sites you suggested! Thank you!
