I'm taking a break from writing ideas to have a bit of a rant. Not because I'm out of ideas, but because I need to address a road block.
It's no secret that I don't like bombs; being able to deal potentially lethal damage in an AoE while also painting a large area is just kind of dumb. There's only one sub weapon that I hate conceptually, though. The joke of a sub weapon that is Torpedo. I used to like the sub, but as time went on its many negative traits went on to overshadow its few positive ones, to the point where I now see it for what it truly is: Design garbage.
Let's start with the sub's horrendously biased matchup spread. We have a sub weapon that can be shot out of the air by one shot from any weapon, that creates a bunch of pellets at its point of impact that require fast swimming to avoid, and that paints a massive amount of turf.
In case the problem somehow isn't obvious, the sub does virtually nothing against fast weapons that can shoot it down with minimal effort. Meanwhile, it cripples slow weapons that have to waste an attack to break it or else be trapped or displaced. It's pathetically unbalanced. But that's not the thing I hate most about the sub weapon; it has two modes, and only one of them has the matchup problem.
The worst part about Torpedo is simple and heinous. This sub weapon covers numerous sub weapon niches; light combo bomb, distraction tool, indirect location tool, trapping tool; it can do virtually anything, including splat a slightly ink-damaged opponent with a direct/pellet combo. And the developers put this everyman sub on six weapons. SIX. WEAPONS.
OUT OF ONE HUNDRED THIRTY.
Any and every weapon in the game could make use of this sub, and they put it on six of them!
I have at least four ideas for new sub weapons and none of them work because this piece of **** Nintendo refuses to give to anything makes all of them seem redundant and uninspired. Pellets have already been done. Light combo tool has already been done. Distraction tool has already been done. And only three non-garbage weapons get the pleasure of being able to use them.
So, I know I said this thread would be taking a break from ideas, but you didn't really believe me, did you?
Torpedo
HP Increased from 20 to 100
Explosive pellets removed
Rolled mode removed
I would refuse to let this sub weapon continue to consume all of the potential gimmicks for new bombs.
Now that this is said and done, you can expect to see a few new sub weapon concepts from me in the near future to replace the niches I removed here from Torpedo, such that each weapon that would want a Torpedo can get a part of the sub that synergizes well with it.
Have a wonderful day.

Has twice the rolling friction of Splat Bomb (rolls half as far)
