Random Question No. 3: Favorite Splatoon Hairstyle?

Yet another random question added to my "vast" collection.
Now, to answer the random question:
I like the octoling hairstyles on general, but my favorite has to be the punk hairstyle. I have always been drawn to shorter themed ones and this one (almost) always blends in with my outfit.
However, with the inkling styles, I tend to gravitate towards soaked, bed head, and banger. But every once in a while I just do plain old haircut.

A: Megalobraid, Punk, Octolocks, Topknot, Hippie, Afro (on this timeline), Bed Head, Mush Cut

i don't really dislike any of the hairstyles for either species (even if the octoling ponytail and i have history) but i think aesthetically my favorites are megalobraid and bed head for inklings, uhhhhhhhh surfcurl and ponytail for octos. no i don't actually use either of the octoling hairstyles i just labeled my Favorites. im indecisive idk

I personally prefer cornrows since it works best with the hats I wear. My second choice would be spiky hair if absolutely necessary, such as in Splatoon 2. My favourite hairstyle that I don’t use is wave.
Ironically the antithesis to your hairstyle preferences, Neko.

I also love Stingers’ lightning bolt hair with regards to salmonid hairstyles.

ok sry to hijack ur thread with art but i felt inspired to revisit some of my sketches of what the ponytail hairstyle could look like down/styled differently (feat. my agent 8 oc modeling this)

im not 100% settled on these (and some of these have like, visible evidence of me erasing and tweaking parts of them LOL) but i'm going more in the "octoling tentacles are maybe not as malleable as inkling tentacles, but they're not fixed in one spot either" route because i seriously COULD NOT make this octopus's hair look good down if i treated the positions their tentacles were in in the ponytail hairstyle as set in stone. i think this is in line with official art and even other hairstyles - the obvious one being the octo afro proving that octoling hair-tentacles can kinda 'merge' like inkling tentacles do in some styles, but also, like... punk and surfcurl and fade are more permanent styles, but part of the process of an octoling getting their hair like that has to involve moving the bases of the tentacles around, right?

edit: ...though im looking at these and realizing i neglected to include the suckers that would go somewhere on the side/front/non-tied-back tentacles... unless they're really part of the tied back tentacles? the ones that are like right on the octoling's scalp in the actual in-game hairstyle? aaaaaaugh back to the drawing (literally) board. octopony hairstyle you've bested me again.

You can't beat the OG man. The Hippie hairstyle is just perfect. The big tentacles, the way they flop around. The simple cuteness of it. That hairstyle just screams Splatoon! to me. Tried playing with the banger hairstyle at the start of s3 for some variety and it just felt wrong.

Banger is still a nice one though. And haircut.

Top knot is such a banger hairstyle I like and played with the slick hairstyle a bit at the start of splatoon 3 but I decided to change it to top knot when inkopolis plaza was released and I haven’t changed it ever sense. Honorable mention to wave and hippie.

as for octolings literally all of them. They look so good and even though I don’t really like playing as the octolings I got to admit all of their hairstyles is just top tier.

I totally agree with that octoling hairstyles are just all so great. I know this has been said a lot, but I actually hope for octoling hairstyles. inklings have more twice as much as octolings. :(

Well, uhm, see here; according to the immaculate hairstyle lore of the Splatoon series, the spiky haircut makes no anatomical sense. Since inkling hair is supposedly formed by the six tentacles which they don’t use as limbs in humanoid form, it shouldn’t be possible for their hair to take on a look such as the spiky haircut depicts.

This is most likely not the reason most people dislike spiky hair.
I personally don’t have a problem with it. Hipster is way overdone, and spiky often offers a breath of fresh air with its uniqueness.

If that's true then why does everyone worship afro even though I see no tentacles and it's the same with buzz cut.

Whenever the next Splatoon comes out, I will be really excited for new hairstyles, assuming there will be new ones.
These two seem like something I would like, I would rate the 3-4 on my list :D
