Well here we are with hope for third kits YET AGAIN (for real this time maybe)

In short, there were filenames datamined from the recent patch that ended in "Cstm02" which is the filename-ending used for 3rd kits in splatoon 1&2, "Cstm01" is already used for the second kits in the game, so.... short of an official announcement I don't think we're getting more compelling evidence than this folks. How we feeling?

I would be lying if I said I wasn't very stoked about this. I actually gave up on third kits after grandfest but now nintendo's toying with my feelings again </3. I hope it happens so much, the game would become so good I'm smiling just thinking about it

I never lost hope. I figured it was only a matter of time, that we just needed to be patient. With the number of Nintendo fans that still don't own Splatoon 3, it makes perfect sense to extend content and revive marketing, especially with a new console coming out fairly soon and Splatoon 4 most likely not. Gives them time to work on polishing the next game and lets them eke out more profit from Splatoon 3 with relatively little effort.
I would say I can't wait to see third kits, but I've been patient for this long. I'm not setting my hopes too high just yet.

I'm still not confident in third kits happening.
We've been through this same process of finding something in the game's files that led to nothing being revealed or a Splatoon event where it would have been the perfect time to reveal something new and yet, nothing happened.
I've already talked about how Nintendo can be very unpredictable so if I'm wrong here and for some reason they just dropped third kits, it wouldn't surprise me but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Honestly I think before there was some plausible deniability with 3rd kits, like maybe that's an old plan they had but they changed their mind, or they didn't have enough time to make all the content they wanted and that got cancelled last minute... But now that we're in the post-game, it's very doubtful to me that nintendo doesn't have a clear plan for what they'll do with the game going forward, so I don't see why they'd add this if they weren't planning something.

It is still absolutely possible that, say, they were once working on third kits and scrapped them, or imported some third kit assets from Splat2 just to mess around with, and somehow by accident those references ended up in these patch files. As we've learned, just because it's in the game files doesn't mean it's going to be in the game (forever mourning lost outpost/ruins of ark polaris over here). It may even be a particularly evil dev messing with us for all we know. But it's still the most hope we've had in a while and it's fun to speculate over. I really thought this rollercoaster was over but here we go again.

This is what I'm guessing will be the actual explanation for the files that were found.
I hope that's not the case though but it's very likely. Regardless, it's still nice that there's some hope for third kits coming soon but I'm not letting that third kit copium get to me unlike someone else I know.
I've also never been wrong before so if third kits don't happen just know that Machine players are always right and deserve to get main weapon buffs.
