[Won by anything big] DzNutsKup - Dz's First Squidboards Tournament!

Hey!

The idea's been tossed around a bunch and now's a better time than ever for me to deliver! A lot of the stuff that's currently up on the page is a work in progress, but this is what I've been thinking so far. I'm very open to changing anything here.

• The tournament will begin at 2 PM EST on Sunday, October 27th. Currently trying to decide whether that Saturday or that Sunday would be better for this and your input is important so please message me if one, but not the other would work for you.
• The format will be round robin. If we get 8 or more teams, teams will be split off into one of a few round robin pools and there will be a final elimination bracket as well.
• Tournament will be best of 3. If one ends up happening, grand finals of every elimination bracket will be best of 5.
• Map list will be provided in the future! I'll mostly be doing actually good stages so don't worry about Splat Zones Wahoo World ruining your time.
• Just for simplicity's sake, Splattercolor Screen will be fully banned. Too many people still have disabilities triggered by it. Every weapon kit that has it will be banned as a result.
• You don't need a Squidboards account to join! Your team can join even if only one of its members is a Squidboards user or if none of them do and you've just heard about this tournament through a friend.

How serious of a tournament will this be? It sounds fun, but I've never been in one before and I don't know any of the vc shorthand. (i would have a few weeks to study up though) Would this be a bad place to start?

Unfortunately most of the tournaments I'm used to need to start at around this time because I expect this to last around three hours and we have people on the West coast of the US and people in European time zones who would both be looking to join. Too much earlier and you're asking people in California to wake up early, too much later and you're asking people from Europe or similar to stay up late. I can push this an hour earlier if it would help though. Just let me know if that would work for you.

Yeah as was just said this isn't meant to be a super serious tournament. Even the more experienced people here have only really played in a team setting for like, a few months tops, and I've seen a lot of other people saying this would be their first time playing in something like this. Don't hesitate to join if the only thing stopping you is that you'd feel out of place!

Squidboards would be better, just as long as I can recongize you it works fine.

Unrelated but I wouldn't get worried about memorizing every map callout, just getting a general idea works fine enough usually. You can just say things like "there's a Dualie, right side of mid" and it'll get the point across better. If your teammates are new to the game then they won't understand what a bats is.

Yeah, I was going to step on some toes no matter what with this unless I wanted this to run on a weekday (not happening). It was either this or Low Ink and my team doesn't get many opportunities to play together these days so I wanted to at least keep Low Ink for us + give everyone here the option of joining that.

Right on. Reach is much smaller than Low Ink, and I know every Saturday or Sunday afternoon is going to have some other event running somewhere. I’ll be pitching this to my team!

Understandable. Provided nothing goes horribly wrong, chances are I'll be trying to schedule a second one later in the year at a different time just so people who weren't able to play in this one can join that one instead.


Since there's nowhere else to mention this and I haven't explicitly said on the tournament's page or anything like that, chances are I'll be streaming some matches from here to my Twitch channel as well. Figure it could be a nice way to remember this for those of you who want to, but can't record stuff like this, and if anyone would prefer that I not do this I'll always be asking people before I stream their gameplay.

I can't lie making my own event and toing kt from scratch is a mild goal of mind for the long term so I'm hoping this goes well!

I'm trying to assign people to teams the moment I find suitable partners for them. Right now there are eight responses to the form and I have actually assigned four people to a team a few days ago, but one of those other people who signed the form said they couldn't make it. For what it's worth I think the other three people who don't have a team yet are one good weapon away from being a decent match so it's really any moment now.

Isn't this tournament happening on the same weekend as Splatoween? And more importantly, is that a problem?
