Hello again, Squidboards. I post deranged drawings of my weird OCs. Though I know most of you ignore this thread because my fanon compliant posts are much less frequent than before, I still want to share a bit of the why and how I do what I do in light of the awards show y'all are apparently having. (Honestly, I wasn't paying attention until I got pinged about it.)
My content revolves around my personal canon. I know Nintendo has their canon and many in the various communities surrounding the Splatoon series have developed a collective fanon, but I'm a sicko about emergent narrative because of, of all things, Pokémon. After playing and thoroughly enjoying a few of the newer games by essentially making up my own story between the wide gaps left for me to fill, I have never been normal about games with a player-made protagonist since. Splatoon, by its nature, has even wider gaps. Aside from increasingly rare lore drops and personality traits gleaned from observing character interactions, your Agents are whoever you want them to be. I put together enough from my interpretations of this information for distinctly separate characters to arise from them, and with each their own story within the story. Unfortunately, all I have documented is early Bricks in Return of the Mammalians and three chapters of an overtly self-indulgent road trip fic that has been rendered obsolete by upcoming lore changes. Not even the "about us" posts are up to date anymore.
With no disrespect intended to anyone else, my fan content does not HAVE to appeal to anyone besides me. Since I am not yet at the point where "unironically good" is achievable, I swear by "so bad it somehow wraps back around to good, or at least kind of funny." I am cringe, but I am free. My squishies (affectionate) live rent free in my head, so I make them everybody else's problem too. I'd tell them to address the people of Squidboards themselves, but Skipper is undergoing a major lore revamp, Nalu got mono in December (I don't have context for this to make sense in), Echo is afraid of most of you, Izumi would kill if she thought Echo was in real danger, and Bricks has errands to catch up on.
"What does this have to do with literally anyone else?" you may ask. I am cringe's final victim, and it went down with me. I have made this sacrifice so you can make what you love and love what you make. I'm thinking about Jeff, that one guy with the convoluted RP threads. I don't read them anymore because his stories are absolutely not to my taste, but I can sense the tons of effort he puts into each image edit and the accompanying storylines. I strive for that level of unrestrained, dedicated creative expression. Free yourself. Embrace cringe. Perhaps one day we will achieve creative fulfillment together.
