I'd say I'm enjoying posting about the Grand Festival more than playing in it, but I finally won my first 100x. If Dread Wringer had a usable kit, I'd switch mains. Anyway, shut me up. I didn't come here to weigh out my options for the future, I came here to post a slightly scuffed, Splatpost sized Bricks. I still don't understand how people do these regularly.

The future is bleak, post Dread Wringer joke build. (Despite me, Hokuto the human behind the screen, not being the one wearing swim jammers and giant flippers, I feel a little embarrassed every time I walk into a lobby.)

One of these is just for me, as in "I'm going to use my upload here for a profile post so I don't have to host externally." Monkey see, monkey do. (Look at how many of these are just here for Tacticooler. You have my express permission to question my sanity.)

The other hopefully explains why I use such a weird variety of weapons. Characters sorted from most to least aligned with my preferred playstyle. (RIV to Stone, who got clowned on by TierMaker itself. I don't know how or why people can play and/or like to play Carbon Deco.)

I could have been writing my crack fic. I could have been catching up on the podcast I listen to. Heck, right now I could have even been asleep. But no, I'm not even taking my squidposts seriously anymore. I do still feel ripped off, though.

A late-night squidpost for the road (literally). You can tell it's late because I couldn't be bothered to move past the sketch stage or wait for better lighting to make this post.

I found the most ragebait skill gatekeeping post in the overworld today. Don't care if I get cooked, I HAD to bite this hook.

NOOOOO I SAW THAT POST (the original post, haven't seen yours yet sadly) 😭 honestly i bet that the player who made it really isn't that much better than the teammates they got really really mad at. lol

This person has to remember that they're ostensibly playing a children's game. While the Splatoon playerbase at large contains some players capable of consistent high-level performance, it also contains Little Timmy who can't be bothered to learn weapons that require more precision than Jr. and Aerospray. It also contains people who, despite trying, suck anyway (like me). I can learn to live with my own suck if I don't think about it too hard. OP needs to learn that while losing is indeed frustrating, some thoughts can and should stay inside.

Honestly, I'd rather the people who need to see that post get it dropped in their plazas than you. Don't worry about it.

This idea was so stupid I couldn't get it out of my head the normal way, so now other people have to suffer. Zero points for guessing the joke.

Man Door Hand Hook Car Door, infamous corruption of "The Hook" urban legend
You'd be surprised by the research that went into making this meme as deep as it is. This includes lore accurate prompts and period accurate costumes.

Hello again, Squidboards. I post deranged drawings of my weird OCs. Though I know most of you ignore this thread because my fanon compliant posts are much less frequent than before, I still want to share a bit of the why and how I do what I do in light of the awards show y'all are apparently having. (Honestly, I wasn't paying attention until I got pinged about it.)

My content revolves around my personal canon. I know Nintendo has their canon and many in the various communities surrounding the Splatoon series have developed a collective fanon, but I'm a sicko about emergent narrative because of, of all things, Pokémon. After playing and thoroughly enjoying a few of the newer games by essentially making up my own story between the wide gaps left for me to fill, I have never been normal about games with a player-made protagonist since. Splatoon, by its nature, has even wider gaps. Aside from increasingly rare lore drops and personality traits gleaned from observing character interactions, your Agents are whoever you want them to be. I put together enough from my interpretations of this information for distinctly separate characters to arise from them, and with each their own story within the story. Unfortunately, all I have documented is early Bricks in Return of the Mammalians and three chapters of an overtly self-indulgent road trip fic that has been rendered obsolete by upcoming lore changes. Not even the "about us" posts are up to date anymore.

With no disrespect intended to anyone else, my fan content does not HAVE to appeal to anyone besides me. Since I am not yet at the point where "unironically good" is achievable, I swear by "so bad it somehow wraps back around to good, or at least kind of funny." I am cringe, but I am free. My squishies (affectionate) live rent free in my head, so I make them everybody else's problem too. I'd tell them to address the people of Squidboards themselves, but Skipper is undergoing a major lore revamp, Nalu got mono in December (I don't have context for this to make sense in), Echo is afraid of most of you, Izumi would kill if she thought Echo was in real danger, and Bricks has errands to catch up on.

"What does this have to do with literally anyone else?" you may ask. I am cringe's final victim, and it went down with me. I have made this sacrifice so you can make what you love and love what you make. I'm thinking about Jeff, that one guy with the convoluted RP threads. I don't read them anymore because his stories are absolutely not to my taste, but I can sense the tons of effort he puts into each image edit and the accompanying storylines. I strive for that level of unrestrained, dedicated creative expression. Free yourself. Embrace cringe. Perhaps one day we will achieve creative fulfillment together.

i understand that you do not make content to appeal to others. however. it does appeal to me, fellow sicko who selectively applies/often defies collective fanon,

literally as somebody who approaches agent ocs similarly but differently to you i looooove starting from essentially the same point (these blank-slate player characters), branching off in wildly different ways, and comparing the end results. ur agent ocs are very different from mine who are very different from my other friends' but they all started with the same story mode campaigns and scraps of lore. and that's so fun to me

I'm always glad to hear when my stuff resonates with someone else, don't get me wrong! It makes me feel a little less alone. Thank you!

The files are slightly too big to attach directly, so I had to post these at home. Unfortunately, I can't do the Eight or Skipper or any of my other squishies because I borrowed these colored pencils.

Where I actually get to talk about the details of the thing I've been working on in mostly secret for a month. (See user title.)

THE FIT
  • Shawl and fleece "wig" sewn myself. This is perhaps the only project that benefits from the maker not knowing how to sew. I unironically think the shawl looking bad looks great!
    • The orange striped fabric is discontinued and now slightly rare. If sloppy wasn't OK for the shawl, I would have been very disappointed by the stains on the scrap the seller sent me.
    • My favorite detail on the whole project is the fishtail braided hair tie on the "wig."
  • Headset is a pair of cheap wireless headphones with fins glued on and a coat of paint.
    • Easily my least favorite part of the build. TL;DR: con crunch and Murphy's Law.
    • It does function, wired or wireless! I used it with the music player on my 2DS.
  • Shirts thrifted. The pants are below-the-knee baseball knickers because I didn't want to tear up a pair of full-length pants.
  • Regular rubber slippers, painted with the leftover paint from the disaster headset.
  • The makeup that doesn't appear in any of these pictures took almost half an hour. Inkling mask, eyebrows (even though mine are too thick and dark to fully obscure because I'm not white!), sludge stain (face paint and sparkly eyeshadow).
  • I painted my nails (all of them) for the bit. I return to work tomorrow and food safety regulations mean that unless I dare to pick up nail polish remover in this weather, I'm cooked.
THE PHOTOSHOOT
    • He wanted photography practice and I wanted pictures I couldn't take myself.
  • My must-have photo (the faceplant) tragically Did Not Turn Out in the dimly lit hallway, otherwise I should have shared it here.
    • My ideal location, the rooftop garden, will not be available in 2026. I do not know anyone who would agree to take silly pictures of me in an equally silly costume somewhere else.
  • I remembered to take off my glasses for the shoot, but not my watch. Make this make sense, Hokuto.
MISCELLANEOUS
  • The knickers worked great with a travel belt (like a slim-fitting fanny pack worn under your outermost layer, usually worn abroad to ensure you don't lose Important Things like your money or passport), since I only had one pocket.
  • About five people recognized the Captain. To be fair, this was an anime convention, not a games convention.
    • I wish I had this cosplay ready on Friday, partially because the first guy I saw fresh off the bus was visibly a Splatoon fan and even my shoddy first-time work would have blown his mind.
  • The wig cap hurt my head, the slippers meant for cleaning yard and keeping your feet safe from scorching beach sand hurt my feet, and the humiliating interactions I had with other people hurt my morale.

this is pretty on par with my experience doing splatoon cosplay at an anime con last year lol. i’m honestly surprised by how small the fraction of anime con-goers who know splatoon is, like i know splatoon isn’t as big in the west but i didn’t think it was too underground by anime con standards??

ANYWAY I’VE ALREADY SAID THIS ELSEWHERE BUT IT BEARS REPEATING. THIS LOOKS SO GOODDDDDDD. ive been pondering ways to do the ‘hair’ for an inkfish cosplay for a while and i wasn’t totally sold on the fabric ‘wig’ method but seeing how yours came out is nudging me in that direction
