Redacted for reasons related to unclear action rules.

Max ==> Hide: Somewhere in the Backyard of House

> Rolling die.
> Roll difficulty level set.

Deciding to take another risk, Max squidded his way out of his hiding spot and into the back yard. When he got there though... well...

He'd taken too long. The house extended much further back than he'd anticipated and in this form, it was nigh impossible to do anything. By the time he'd gotten there and looked around the settings... it was too late. There was no time to hide.

If that Inkling decided to pursue...

Checking his phone again to see if the location was correct, Wade confirmed. He was where he was supposed to be. So who was this and where was Jax? Also Ash, but...

Wade looked up from his phone to get a better look at the inklin-- Wait, hold on a second... Where'd they go??

Wade ==> Search: For weird red-Inkling

> Dice Pool 3
> 1 Success

Stay or go? Jax was waiting and might be able to explain what was going on but... there was only so much time. Maybe this was someone from Deepview! With that large (suspicious) bag, there was no way he could have gotten far.

Having remembered some sounds coming from the yard, Wade assumed that the boy ran that way, and so, he gave chase. Leaning his bike up against the tree, swearing to return to it and assure its safety, Wade clumsily scrambled up the ancient, dead tree.

It isn't long after Wade begins to follow the red Inkling that he finds him standing behind the house, frantically looking around for someplace to hide.

There was still time. Should he note him and just tell Jax or...?

First doing a double take, Wade narrowed his eyes in suspicion. Deciding to carefully set his bike down in front of the house, he started to cautiously creep around and see if he could track down the other inkling. Maybe they meant trouble. He'd be careful to be quiet.

Wade ==> Search: for weird red Inkling

There was a choice to make here: stay or go?
The Inkling might mean trouble... but for that reason it might be better to just let Jax know about the Inkling and leave it be... but then he could get away. That considered, the choice was clear. Wade clumsily scrambled over the tree.

> Base Pool 3
> 0 Successes

However, glancing around the area, it was as if the Inkling disappeared. He knew that was impossible but... well at least he could tell Jax.

Wade squinted, perplexed and a bit disappointed, but... he did another look over of the area. The red inkling really seemed to be gone.

Weird, but alright. Possibly concerning considering the mysterious duffel bag, but the inkling didn't seem to be wearing a suit or seem aggressive, just the opposite, so they could be another straggler not affiliated with Deepview. Another 'Cato' mysteriously watching around, like a sentry.

Wade grimaced, before deciding to turn back. Not that Cato wasn't invaluable, but chasing him down had almost gotten his arms blown off yesterday. It'd be safer to head back to the meeting point and tell Jax about the person who stopped by. Not to mention, it was easier to bluff about meeting in a weird district for kicks than coming up with a story for meeting an informant in Octovalley.

With that settled, Wade went to go sit with his bike and dink around on his phone until Jax came by. Secretly he was going to be a bit more cautious, but some low profile waiting couldn't hurt.

Alga had enjoyed how lax the day had been compared to the trials of yesterday. Things were slow and lighthearted, and she found herself dozing off on the couch while those around her chatted and interacted amongst themselves. She needed the breather.

So when the comm sounded and an intruder alert rang out, her heart dropped in dismay. She groaned and turned to face the couch's backrest, burying her face in the cushion and curling up in some effort to avoid the alarm. She had just been winding down. Now this?

Did she have to go with them? Felix had said they didn't, but she was sure everyone was going to leave and go somewhere. Besides that, she was a bit curious...

But it could be life-threatening, and her weapon was back in the bedroom. Did she even have time to go get it? Ugh...

"Do we gotta bring a weapon...?"

Alga ==> Ask: Felix

Felix turned to Alga, stopping his advance.
A smirk quirked up on his face as he said, "lemme put it this way. Oy think not bringin' a weapon ta this is as advisable as comin' ta a potluck wifout any food. Ya look like 'n idiot 'n' it puts you in danger dependin' on the crowd. We 'ardly know wha' kin' o' 'ouse geust we gon' be greetin'. So best ta come prepared."

It was difficult to see clearly from underneath the bushes, but Max could glimpse the other Inkling’s feet as they wandered over to the front of the house and set their bike down beside it. Though their face was obfuscated, the careful way they walked suggested that they had seen him standing in the frontyard.

Immediately, they headed past the fallen tree and into the space he had hidden himself in. Max held his breath, watching as they stopped to look around the area. Move, he shouted mentally. Go back. Head the other way. Gah, if he’d had his weapons ready, he could’ve ambushed his pursuer right then and there. C’mon, GO. DO something.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the Inkling wandered back to their bike, and Max drooped to the ground with a silent breath of relief.

Alright. Whoever-it-was must’ve given up the chase. He was safe, at least for the time being. Still, just who the shell was that guy? Certainly, they didn’t look like the typical Deepview grunt, and the fact that they had stopped searching for him implied that they weren’t ultimately concerned by his presence.

Curious, Max glanced in the direction the Inkling had headed. He expected them to be searching still, but they were just… sitting there, by the bike. Huh. Maybe they waiting for someone? But who the shell would they be waiting for? The only people Max knew would be here were Jax and Jax’s-

He froze. Wait. This Inkling… they weren’t Jax’s partner… were they?

He stared through the underbrush at the Inkling again. No, that couldn’t be right. Sure, the leaves clouded his vision, but looking closer… the Inkling standing there was young. And in plainclothes. Shell, the bike he was riding wasn’t even a special model. He just looked like… well, kind of like any other kid.

Max frowned. Perhaps that was the point. Perhaps it was a disguise in order to look nondescript. It wasn’t as though every Deepview grunt needed to be in costume. And, heck, Jax hadn’t looked like anything special, after all.

Ngh… he grimaced at the memory of the Tower break-in. If this Inkling really was Jax’s partner, then he couldn’t afford to underestimate. But if they weren’t, and they found where he was hiding…

Quietly, he moved a tentacle toward the duffel bag sitting at his side, carefully picking out the sheathed Dynamo sitting at the top, all the while watching the Inkling’s movements. Something was sitting in their hands. Was it… a weapon? Shell, that made his plans harder… filling the Dynamo with ink required it to be decompressed, and there was no way he’d be able to unsheathe his blade without alerting the other Inkling to his presence. At best, he could attack and decompress the weapon at the same time, then use the weight of the weapon against them.

Taking a deep breath, Max leapt out of the bushes and brandished the Dynamo, striking with the blunt weapon in an attempt to pin the other Inkling down.

Alga squirmed and tried to ignore the words, even when they stung and made her bite her lip. Now was not the time to get stupidly emotional.

She debated over her options almost obsessively, taking a deep breath to calm herself down when her heart began to speed up a bit with anxiety. She didn't want to face danger; whatever this intruder was, she could very well get hurt or even killed. But if she stayed... Brutus, his gang, and Lili might all look down on her for it. And, well, she was curious to see what was going on...

Her decision came amongst the adrenaline rushing through her body. She stood up slowly, swallowing as she looked at the group in confliction. Then, Alga darted off down the hall, remerging some several minutes later with her Aerospray in her hands.

She really needed to work on this "making others happy" thing.

After Alga had used the bathroom they duo had headed to the library. The duo seemed to have a light hearted afternoon together along with the others... it was not long before that changed however.

"A-An intruder?!" Lili seemed to wonder what or who it could be.... the peace they had shattering so easily. Furrow ingredients her brows she turned to Alga wondering what she would as the pink-haired inkling thought about it herself. She watched in silence as Alga and Felix engaged in conversation.

As much as she put on a brave face... the idea of death was scary, terrifying even. However, she couldn't just stand around either. It was probably best for her to go with them and stay together as well. Their odds of survival would increase then...

Lili was knocked out of her thoughts when Alga had dashed off snd then returned with her Aerospray.. where had she gotten that? It was probably best to not go without a weapon but... where would she gt one? Perhaps Feliz knew?

"Felix do you have any weapons? Rollers? Chargers? Anything?" Unfortunately the tentatek she had earlier had been taken away from her... so she had nothing.

Lili ==> Ask: Felix
Alga ==> Follow: Felix

Alga, now properly armed, began to follow the group. Lili, however, voiced a concern. "Felix do you have any weapons? Rollers? Chargers? Anything?"

"Oy, we go' plenty!" Felix said, flabbergasted. "Germ, didn'cha give 'er back 'er weapon."

"T'was Brutus's," Germana mumbled.

"Ah, Oy see," Felix replied. "Kay, so..."

Before he could come up with some witty retort, Germana walked up to Lili and shoved something like a hilt in her hand. "'f ya never used a Blade before, learn quick. Oy'ma get 'nother." And she stormed off.

"Wow..." Felix said, bemused. "Did'ja guys beef 'r' summut?"

No reply.

"Well," Felix continued, "Le's get goin'. Germ can find us."

Without anymore hesitation, the group made their way to the exit, following a different set of Kettles. When they came out, they were in a small control center filled with computer equipment, though it looked like it had been abandoned ages ago.

Felix made and ink rail, explained how they worked, then everyone followed suit, one by one making their way up in the ink of their color.

When they got up to what looked like maintenance stairs, Felix explained the situation. "Now, as Oy understand it, we're 'ere on recon. Someone's 'ere. Never give away 'ow many we got. We'll break inta two groups and keep in contac by comms.

"We don' know the nature o' the intruder, so all we need ta do is locate, observe and, if need be, subdue... but only when the whole group is ready, aight?"

Brutus nodded. Germana arrived.

"Perfect timin'!" Felix cooed. "Pinkie 'n' and Germ, yer a team."

"Wha--!" Germana began, but Felix cut her off.

"'N' Brutey 'n' Puddle 're goin' wif me."

"But Oy--!"

"No complaints?" Felix chirped. Then, glaring at Germana, he went, "Oy'm in charge after all."

Germana shut up.

"Aight, Brutus and Alga, ya go'n ahead," Felix ordered. "Lili, Oy need ta talk ta ya, Germ, meet us at the top 'o the stairs." Mumbling Germana followed orders as Felix said, "Oy'ma make this quick... Germ is a tough nut ta crack, bu' she means well. Trust 'er. Try ta bond. God knows she needs the friends."

And with that, he ran up the stairs.

...

Alga, Brutus and Felix came up first. There were two jump pads, one Felix claimed went to the beginning and they would follow. When Lili and Germana came up, he directed them to the next pad. This one led to the end. The two groups would work their way to the inner part of the Junkyard and report that a room was clear when they checked it thoroughly.

If either group found something, they would then report to the other and they would convene; Felix pointed out ways to return to the maintenance area they were using to sneak around all over the map he had. Everyone took note... and everyone went on their way.

...

Alga's group jumped to the beginning, checking the area around them. In the background were hundreds of monitors, static flashing through their screens at random intervals. This place seemed... inactive for certain.

She noted the large incline and then a series of corridors with a number of square, raised platforms. But for the most part, it was empty. Brutus finally commented, adding, "Felix? Where're the Flooders?"

...

Lili and Germana arrived on the other end in a location which... well seemed uninteresting. Lili did recognize a port, even in the darkness, where a zapfish would normally power the area. Otherwise, there was a nub for an ink rail. Germana muttered "clear" into her comm and Lili followed after her as they took the next rail.

When they arrived at the next area, Germana looked around the large, grid-patterned area and muttered. "The flooders 're missin'."

Mag ==> Attack: Assailant

As Magabelle approached the hiding place of the sniper, she nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard a shot, then another. She froze in place; this was no game, this was someone actually out to get them. Someone wanted to kill her.

A third shot and a scream.

Canchi, who had been trying to act as bait... succeeded. Luckily, or perhaps not, he didn't seem to have popped at all. Instead, he was writhing on the ground. In pain, but not a grey puddle on the ground.

Mag was now just a corner away from where the sniper was before, turning the corner to see... well the reason for the two shots. She cringed at herself for flinching--the reason was now clear.

The hiding place now had two ink trails. From this backyard to another, there was now a steady trail. The trail led into someone's lawn... which was unluckily unmowed. The grass was incredibly tall, a perfect hiding place.

Midway through the trail though, there was another stream. This one led between the houses and, considering the range of the gun, possibly led to the other side of the street

Magabelle looked back at Canchi for the briefest moment, wanting to help him, but weighing the risk and deciding against it. I'll have to come back for you later, Canchi...

Sighing in an attempt to brush away some of the fear, she stealthily tried to follow the trail to the backyard--ready to dodge any shots she may see

> Hidden Enemy Roll...

As Mag ran through the backyard, forgetting to feel even the slightest bit intrusive, she felt another shot before she heard it. Passing between the houses, a high pressure shot flew right past her, the pressure pushing her to the ground.

Mag, turned, her breath coming ever quicker, to see that behind her was a grey trail. It hadn't hit. But still... that pressure wave...

At least the assailant had revealed their position.

Mag scrambled up from her position on the floor. This person's weapon was becoming scarier and scarier the more it shot... long range, short charge time, and oh boy the pressure. Mag definitely didn't want to get hit by that thing now.

She silently hoped that the attacker wasn't an S+.

Looking at the trail they'd left behind, she started to move a bit closer, hoping to close some distance before she attempted to retaliate.

> Base Pool 3; Small Pistol +1; Moving in Range +0; Enemy not Visible -1; Dice Pool 3
> 3 Successes...!!! (hopy shiz; twas a 9-9-9)

Mag took aim as she danced around the ink trails. As she drew up her gun, she remembered everything she'd been taught that afternoon.

Hold steady. Both hands. Take aim. It clicked to her almost naturally that the place the sniper was hiding must be near the end of the trail but not quite so as not to make it obvious.

Aim. Shoot.

It was a blind shot, sure, but someone came shooting out of the ink. They didn't pop, but damn were they surprised. Now covered in Mag's ink, they were struggling to retaliate.

> Hidden Roll...

In their own desperation, the suited agent fired some shots up. What appeared to be panic, however, turned out to be a plan as they covered the area around them back in their grey ink.

> Hidden Roll...

With another shot, they made another escape route and disappeared into the ink. To pursue or... maybe the Suit would leave Canchi and Mag be now...?

Mag would have been surprised at making that shot had she not been in her current situation. So, instead, she growled at the fact that she didn't splat them; since she doesn't normally brandish weapons outside of an ink battle, let alone get attacked, it didn't register that splatting them would actually hurt them. A lot. Especially considering the power of the weapon she was carrying.

And so, in her rush, she forgot about Canchi and started to follow the attacker, ready to fire.

> Chase--Completing Rolls
> Mag Completes Rolls before Opponent

Using the trail she left before, Mag gave herself a swimming start, plus a moment to rejuvinate herself. The ink soaking back into her body refreshed her, until she jumped out and fired another shot.

The assailant looked to be trying to get away, his trail already leading off... but it was a charger shot and the path he took was clear: he was trying to escape behind the houses.

Mag gave chase; at first she was behind as the Suit hopped up and began to make trails for himself to swim through, but the quicker charge time of her Ink Pistol proved to be the winning factor as Mag finally laid a trail of ink over the assailant.

Wasting no time, Mag unfortunately, didn't have the mentality to make a proper decision; so, still consciously unaware that this wasn't an ink battle, she took aim at the attacker and shot.

> Base Pool 3; +2 Enemy Encumbered; +1 Ink Pistol
> Dice Pool 6
> 4 Successes

Without hesitation, Magabelle took aim. It wasn't hard; he was above ink. She'd done it a million times. With this weapon it was even easier.

Her color splattered all across the field she was in, the only reminder that the Suit was even there.

...they were in a field. With the action dying down, Mag took note of her surroundings. It was probably the park at the center of her neighborhood. How had she gotten here? Was the travel that far?

Though she was a little lightheaded from using the Ink Pistol so much, Mag felt proud she'd held her own.

What now?

...uh. Mag stood there in confusion as it registered how far she had travelled in such a short amount of time. And, if she had been so 'into it', then someone might've saw the chase without her knowing... how would she be able to validate her and Canchi's possession of--

...Canchi.

Mag's eyes widened as she realised that she had left Canchi in pain, out the front of someone's house. Looking back at the ink trails that she and the agent had left, she started to retrace her steps and swim through whatever ink was left to try and get back as fast as possible.

Posting this early because who wants to wait. Also because it ain't gonna fit in the normal GM post.

> Base Pool 3; +2 for sneak attack

Max attempted to pin Wade and his bike, but jumping from the bush, his clothes got caught. It wasn't long until he untangled himself, but Wade had already noticed and made some distance.

Already on edge before the inkling popped out of the shrubbery, Wade leapt up with an ungraceful yelp. With one glance, he caught glance of the wielded roller.

...This was an ambush. And he didn't have anything to shoot back with.

What did he have to fight back with? He needed a charger and his splatcharger was with Jax... Best case scenario? If Jax was at the meeting spot, like some weapon dealing saint, his charger could even the odds. Less good case scenario? His zippy, red, two-wheeled getaway was left there.

Wade hesitated then made a dash for it.

> Luck Roll
> 2 Successes (Holy...)
> okay gonna take some time to explain how this happened
> you rolled a 10, then a 10, then a 4
> 7 - 10 is a success; 10 is a reroll on top
> that was a 1/100 chance

Wasting no time, Wade vaulted the tree, past the Inkling assailant to the door. He was about to risk life and limb, pounding on the heavy oak, when who would answer the door but...

Cap'n Cuttlefish?

"Now who's all this gettin' crazy at this time of the night!"

Not a second after the elder Inkling had finished speaking did Max stumble out of the shrubbery, swearing an impressive variety of curses and flusteredly picking leaves out of the folds of his jacket. Noticing his target in the distance, he leapt forward, and, with a heroic point of his Dynamo, shouted, "You're not going anywhere, you-!"

He paused, confused, at the sight of the old Inkling and Wade standing by the door. With a squint, he summed Wade from the ground up, and, seeing that he was unarmed, blankly turned to the emblem on the other's hat.

"Ah! S-sir Cuttlefish!" He stammered, wide-eyed, and saluted, "S-sorry for the noise, sir! I-I'm apprehending that criminal trespassing on your property!"

"Ah!" the Captain replied, looking from Max to Wade. "Is that so?"

His question seemed not to be directed at Max, but instead at Wade, who was standing right in front of him.

Wade stuttered, extremely confused by the sudden change of attitude by the ...masked ...ambusher who just came out of the bushes.

"Apprehend me?" he asked. "Am I not supposed to be here?"

Realizing that wasn't what he wanted to say right off the bat, Wade shook his head and tried to motion he was restarting his sentence for the Captain. "No, I mean, I'm on your property and he came at me, but its not what it sounds like, its..."

Wade he groaned as his words got more rambly. "Jax. This address. Told to meet here. I'm not trespassing," Wade tried to clarify.

"Ah!" the Captain exclaimed, his face brightened. "Then come in, come in! He said he was expectin'! He must've meant a guest. Hoo! Was I surprised when he said that--thought he had a little one on the way so young! But boy was I wrong..."

The captain rambled on, entering further into the house, leaving the two Inklings outside, in the middle of their squabble.

Well... the door was wide open. And, turning his head, Wade saw a bamboozler, yellowed with age, handle tarnished from years of use, mounted on the wall in pride.

Max couldn't see it. Maybe…

Having stood through the other Inkling's conversation in stunned silence, Max finally lowered the Dynamo he was pointing and rested it on his shoulders. "The shell..." he muttered something angrily to himself, his gaze glaring daggers at the Inkling standing by the door, "You're actually Jax's partner...?"

Fixing the bag on his shoulders, he shouted at the Inkling standing in the doorway. "Hey." The antagonism in his voice was unhidden. "Yeah. You. Where'd you hear the name "Jax", huh? And when the shell did you contact him?"

Wade cringed, spooked at the gruff treatment.

"He's a journalist around Inkopolis??" Wade answered, uncomfortable to be put on the spot. "And like, today??"

With a small glance towards the bamboozler inside, Wade mentally told himself to chill. He had an ace up his sleeve, just in case. Getting a bit of a grip, he returned a question to the masked inkling, with a bit of edge in his own voice.

"Why? Some reason you're looking for Jax?" Wade questioned.

Max paused, his antagonistic glare intensifying, and twisted the Dynamo resting on his shoulder. By his movements alone, it was obvious that he was uncomfortable about having the question reflected at him. Still, despite all the anger, he seemed to be holding back, keeping the Dynamo forcefully in place and clenching his other hand steady at his side.

"...Yeah." He muttered, with some resistance, "Maybe I am."

He paused again, as if thinking, and, with a sudden sneer forming on his face, added, "Lemme put it this way: I'm also an acquaintance of his. And as it turns out," he flicked a small piece of paper out of his pocket, "I've got an invitation to this little party, as well."

Wade grasped into the air until he caught the scrap of paper. And it sure looked like the same card he recieved a day or two ago. So... this guy probably wasn't lying.

And so... this was the 'new recruit' Jax mentioned. Conveiently the masked pyscho that tried to jump him from in a bush. The newest squid on 'team conspiracy busters.' Oh boy.

Wade looked over the paper again in a bit, with a nervous look. He stammered, "I... I guess you are."

Looking up to the inling, a bit stand-offishly, a bit cautiously, Wade asked, "So... do you... normally attack people you're going to be working with...? Or am I just special?"

"Tch, you think I was gonna trust some kid skulking around like a fryin' cri-"

He stopped, as if noticing the increasing loudness of his voice, and, closing his eyes with a deep breath, started again. "No. I... thought you might've been someone else. A criminal, or... hmph, well, I'm sure you can guess what I mean."

After another deep breath, he opened his eyes again, returning to the angry glare he had before. "Here's the thing, kid," he added, "In my experience, trusting people by glance alone ends up getting you beaten down - or worse. So if you think I'm gonna give you some warm welcome, you can think again."

Wade gave a shocked, almost offended frown. Wow, super edgey. All like, 'you can't trust anyone!' and... 'don't go with strangers who offer you candy, kid.'

He huffed indignantly. What was with this 'kid' stuff, anyway? He was... at least 14. Which was tweenish... Technically not a kid.

Wade glowered back, but wasn't about to argue age here. At least his own age. He retorted. "I'm sorry, what did I look like to you? A tax collector, maybe? You responsible adult."

Mocking a cough, he tacked on. "Who tripped on a bush while trying to give a warm welcome."

Any control Max had over his anger was broken into a thousand pieces. In a fury, Max slammed the side of his roller into the ground like a hammer, causing the ring of the weapon to echo throughout the area.

"Fryin' talk like that again, ink-speck," he seethed, "Go on. You wanna fryin' try me? Or you gonna yelp like a lost kitten and run scurrying to your little bodyguards. "Oh, maybe Cap'n Cuttlefish'll save me." "Maybe Jax can back me up." You think I didn't notice where you were runnin'? You think I didn't notice what you were tryin' to do? FRYIN' try me, kid."

He snarled. "'Cause see if I don't splatter you across the walls with your friends watching."

Wade flinched, shutting his eyse at the slam of the weapon and the inkling's yelling. But when he looked up again, he shot back a glare like cold steel.

Turning his head straight to the bamboozler on the wall, Wade sprinted over and swiped it off the wall, quickly squidding and starting to synch, then onto his feet again with the bamboozler held ready.

"You know, Jax can show up late for now," Wade said. Guess he was going tankless for this, like a street brawl, but weirdly enough he knew a thing or two about that.

"As they say, I had an older sibling," he said. A sibling that left him all sorts of useless tips about trouble, some that were becoming less useless by the minute. With a wicked grin, Wade spoke, "So I know to how to fight."

Part 2...
Seeing the Inkling backing into the house, Max's first instinct was to pursue him; the kid hadn't had time to position himself or prepare his weapon, after all. Still, experience fighting snipers had taught him that a frontal approach was suicidal. If the kid sounded so confident backing himself inside, then he must've had a position that would prevent Max's attacks - likely a long hallway, considering the building.

Sneering, Max backed away from the entrance and moved behind the fallen tree, watching the windows and doors. "Yeah, sure, ink-speck," He taunted, "Lemme guess, they taught you how to be a coward, too? Or was that somethin' you learned when you were cryin' for them to save your slimy little skin?"

> Resist Taunt Roll Rolled
> Taunt Roll Rolled
> Taunt did not exceed resist

Wade was hurt that those old wounds were brought up. But he blamed himself instead that he'd mentioned his sis for that one-liner.

He held his ground, waiting. He knew how to snipe. Don't give in to the taunts.

Don't throw shade at Rivera, you overgrown seaweed growth. She was ten times the battler you'll ever be.

However, all Wade said was a cold, "You're going to eat your words."

His weapon felt fully synched but there no laser yet. Hmm... Honestly, who knew what this weapon was like. What were it's subs? Guess there was only one way to find out. Aiming to claim some turf, Wade sent the first shot forward.

> Wade has claimed the Entrance

***

"Heh, great comeback, kid," Max continued to sneer, examining the house for other entries. As much as he didn't want to damage the property of the great cuttlefish, the brat needed to be taught a lesson about running his damn mouth; he'd take the consequences as they came.

"Let me teach you something, ink-speck," knowing that the Inkling was pulled back, he sent a swath of ink along the backyard, splattering the ground and hiding in the ink. "Your sibling? They ain't fryin' here to save you. Jax and the Cap'n, they ain't fryin' here to save you, either. You're alone, kid. Alone with me. And when I get to you, you'll be wishing you kept your sorry mouth quiet."

***

Rivera not being here to save him? What else was new?

With the sobering words hanging in the air, Wade could feel his anger growing cold and focused.

That guy didn't know what he was talking about. Just throwing insults into the air ...to make Wade do something impulsive. With the hallway inked, this fight would be at a stalemate until someone was in a bad position. Unless one of them wasn't all talk.

If he could sneak into the protection of the door frame, he could start taking protected shots, and either claim turf or strike.

***

> Rolls complete
> Max rolled 0 on hiding
> Wade rolled 4 on perceiving

Wade began to move out, preparing to get in position to attack when he heard a splattering of ink. Instincts kicking in he decided stopped and thought about where the splatter could be.

He didn't see any ink outside the doorway, but he definitely heard a dynamo swish. Taking a lucky guess he assumed that the Inkling was waiting in ambush. Taking a potshot would be no good.

***

Having backed up, Wade reevaluated his actions. Sure the bamboozler could function close range if needed, but defensive was best.

Besides.... Wade examined the weapon. He couldn't figure how to use the sub --if this even had one-- but he sure as shell noticed the ink efficiency from the few shoots he took. Not to mention... it really had no laser? So almost the range of a splatcharger, with more mobility, plus no laser to give away shots...

Wade turned back to the house's inside. Let the inkling try to barge in. He'd be mislead by multiple inked paths, while Wade snuck around to find a window, setting up a perfect chance to attack.

***
> Dice Pool 3

Max found a backdoor which he was glad to see... sneaking under a door was much easier than breaking a window. Bending over, he ripped the rubber stopper at the bottom of the door, praying this house was as old as it seemd and didn't have another stopper on the other end.

He inked a small patch under the door, squidded through, praying, then popped a head up. He didn't hit the door. He was in. A kitchen, it seemed.

But... the house was the 'kid's'.

At this point, it seemed that the kid was set on barricading himself inside the building. Coward, Max swore to himself, all the while surveying the ink-flooded kitchen with a wary gaze. Though the speed in which the ink-speck was claiming turf made him uneasy, he wasn't about to let that spiting sniper get the better of him. If the kid insisted on making himself comfortable inside, then he'd just have to take that safety away from him.

"Come out and fight me, ink-speck!" Max shouted, throwing down a wild spray of ink across the kitchen. Keeping out of the hallway's line-of-sight, he flooded the room with ink, trying to draw out his opponent from any nearby place of hiding.

***
> Bottom floor is claimed

Figuring that the Inkling would spend some time hiding, Wade took his time, inking up the house, preparing for a fight. This was his turf now and he had the advantage. When he was waiting in a guest bedroom near the front of the house, Wade heard the other Inkling shout, "Come out and fight me, ink-speck!"

The sound of a dynamo could be hurt echoing from the other side of the house. This inkling wasn't even trying to hide!

Well, if you're going to make it that easy to find you... Wade thought to himself.

Unfortunately he wasn't feeling like facing a dynamo head on. Regardless of the speed of their weapons, being out ranged was something to be avoided, best case scenario. Besides... Wade could feel himself smirking as he curled his fingers around the bamboozler. Stealth was on his side.

So they wanted him to 'Come out?' That could be arranged. Wade started searching for some window he could crack open and jump out of, or at least some way outside that wasn't the front door.

> Base Pool 3; Cooler Head +1
> Dice Pool 4
> 3 Successes

Without too much effort, Wade found a window that was broken from the quake. Quickly pulling the broken sill up, he jumped through quickly. The window stayed open, but it didn't seem that unfeasible if the other Inkling noticed it.

> Wade is now outside.

***

Swing after swing, Max blew out on the kitchen, painting not just the floors, but the walls, dishes, cupboards and appliances his eye-popping red.

But it didn't take more than a few seconds to realize that the other Inkling wasn't here. What now? Proceed to the hallway, keep trying to lure him out, or find another point of entry?

Glowering at the kid's lack of presence, Max ran through the options in his head. No doubt, the kid was aware of his presence in the kitchen. So long as the kid had a clear shot, storming the hallway wouldn't get him very far.

....Or would it?

With a dark gleam in his eyes, Max swung the roller against the wall, making more noise. "I know you're hiding in here, ink-speck." He hissed, all the while ducking into the ink... and slipping out the backdoor. Keeping below the windows, he zipped over to the main door of the house, climbed above the entrance again, and, after a brief pause, dropped down and slammed a wave of ink down the hallway.

Jumping down from his hiding spot, launching a barrage of ink through the hallway, Max hoped to find the hiding Inkling...

He didn't, but now the hallway was his. Better to keep his guard up, but now the biggest perceived threat was eliminated.

***

Wade was now outside the house... and a bit more. He'd made his way into the neighbor's backyard. Maybe he could just totally avoid the problem, but then what about Jax? And the captain? And that psycho rampaging in his house?

Weird, the neighbors yard? Not where he expected to land but it was still the perfect spot to set up for a counterattack.

If the masked inkling followed him out the window, the wave of dynamo would be a lot less accurate than a precise bamboozler blast, a shot through the small opening. He could work with putting the dynamo at a weird angle.

Maybe heading back into captain's yard would be polite to their neighbor? Either way, Wade was ready to set up outside the window, hiding in the ink for a sneak attack. Better yet, maybe there was a spot that would require minimal inking.

> Hide difficulty set (2)

Looping out the neighbor's yard and into Cuttlefish's front again, Wade made a quick 'ping' at the ground at the foot of the tree stump that had once been the now-fallen tree lining the yard.

Here he waited for the rambunctious Inkling... noting that the entrance was now splattered in red ink.

***

Max stared into the empty hallway, frustration welling in his veins. Not in the kitchen. Not in fryin' hallway. Had the kid left? Was he even in the fryin' building? Or was he still hiding in the corners like some fryin' coward? Shell, screw trying to ambush the damn kid. Wherever he was, Max was going to find him, and like shell was he going to strike him down.

Without a second thought Max rushed through the ink and into the depths of the house, throwing a spray of ink at anything that wasn't stained a deep red. "Get out here, ink-speck!" He shouted, swinging his Dynamo wildly around the building's steep corners.

> Hidden Roll (Did not get seen by Wade)

With wild abandon, Max began splattering each room preparing a swing as he turned each corner. One, two, three, four, five rooms. After all this, each room had his red marking, painting things in a sharp, scarlet hue.

There were still spots, in each room. But no attacks. What gives? Did this Inkling have nerves of steel? Or…

...did ...did he go upstairs? But wouldn't have Max... certainly, he would've seen...

He looked around the room in a series of staggered spins. No movement here. No ambush there. When would the kid have even... shell, how would he...

It was at this point that Max dropped the roller to his side, staring blankly at the red-splotched rooms. He... the kid was still in the building, wasn't he? He hadn't... he hadn't fryin' left him in the place, right?! Hadn't he?! Like shell would he leave! After everything he said?! No way was Max letting him get away!

With a snarl, Max headed toward the upstairs. He couldn't risk having that kid be hiding upstairs.

> Wade Chooses to continue hiding.

The stairs, like the doors, were made of study oak planks, and creaked as he went up them. The higher up he went, the more the sound of humming filled the room.

The second floor opened up to another hallway, with four doors. The closest one to the left was cracked open and was the source of the off-key humming. It sounded like the cap'n and... there was a pretty great, if fishy, smell coming from the room.

Max, acting more on instinct than on thought, snuck over to the creaked open door. Before he could open it or anything, the cap'n shouted "WHO'S THERE!"

With only a little hesitation, Max revealed himself, not wanting the captain to think him rude or a spy or any other likely thing that might threaten someone of his high profile. "Oh! It's you, boy! Come in, come in! I was just making coffee and crabby cakes for Jax and all his friends!"

***

Growing a little impatient, Wade figured that he might want to ink back up to the window, so he blooped out of the ink... only to be tapped on the shoulder.

All of the stress building up in Wade at that moment released, luckily, in the form of leaping out of his skin. Not literally, of course, but he felt like he jumped a thousand feet. Quickly, he turned around, and aimed the bamboozler at... Jax!?

"Hi," Jax said, looking to the gun then to Wade. "You did good, but would you mind putting that down?"

Alga hesitated, then took a step forward, glancing around the area and looking over the monitors before glancing at the corridors. Empty, kind of quiet, and sort of dark. A tad unnerving, but at least the monitors were on...

She looked over at Brutus and frowned, fingers toying idly with the chrome plating of her Aerospray. What were Flooders...?

Awkwardly did she open her mouth to say something, chewing on her mouth as she ran over her thoughts. It wouldn't be wise to interrupt, but... Well, it was just a little question. A quick answer and they could do their thing, right?

"Um..." Her voice was soft when she spoke. "What are Flooders...?"

Talk ==> Brutus and Felix

"Um..." Alga began, her voice soft. "What are Flooders...?"

Following suit, Felix spoke in quietly, less playfully saying, "they're large machines tha' spew ink. The'ere used at one point ta secure large areas for combat--made sure that Octarian troops 'ad a safe battlefield wifout revealing 'emselves."

"They're real big!" Brutus added, before Felix gave him a look. Blushing, Brutus said, almost silently this time, "they're real big...!"

Alga listened quietly, digesting the information and nodding a little to show her understanding. Then, her brow furrowed; the Flooders were gone? But...

"If they're so big, how could they just...be gone?"

She didn't know how big they were exactly, but judging by Brutus' exaggeration, they certainly sounded impressive.

"Tha's the real question, now ain't it," Felix said, darkly. "Someone has been 'ere for some time wifout our knowin' that worries me. Oy'll 'ave ta ask Cato how this escaped our radar later...

"But Brutus is right. The things're gigantic. 'n' near indestructable... 'least wif ink weapons. Their bio-tech core's kept safe wifin a huge metal cylinder so... Oy've no idea, honestly."

Her nose wrinkled as she listened on. "Odd..."

But, if they were so large that it would have taken awhile to do anything with them, then it couldn't have just been one person. At least, that was her idea. It just didn't make sense for someone to do this all on their own.

"...Do you think there's more than one person behind it...? It-It sounds like it...would take more than just one to pull this off..."

"Honestly?" Felix replied, "I's possible. But 'f tha's the case, which it may be, Puddle, then Oy'm severely worried fer our security grid."

The three searched the area more thoroughly, but nothing came up. There just seemed to be no trace of the Flooders or the intruder so they continued.

One superjump later, the three found their way to another area, this one with a similar ramp leading up to a two tiered building. The ramp allowed the three to make their way up to the first tier, but the second was at least twice their height. For all intents and purposes this second level was a barrier.

"No Flooders 'ere, either," Felix declared, quietly. "Alrigh' le's give the place a look-see. If either o' ya'll find anything, return ta where we came from--we'll meet there in ten."

Mag ==> Move To: Squid Sister's House

Canchi! Remembering her injured companion, Magabelle followed her trail back to her original location. How could she have forgotten her companion... used him as bait, in fact! Please let him be okay... please let him be okay...

Mag had left a huge trail of Ink behind her, chasing this Deepview Agent. Someone was bound to have seen. These thoughts flashed through her head as she hopped from puddle to puddle. And yet, they paled in comparison to the possibility that Canchi might--

...might be gone.

She arrived at the scene, but all that was left was a grey pool. Where had he gone? Was there a struggle? He'd definitely not popped... but there was only grey ink here. Had he not fought back? Was there another agent nearby?

Mag looked around but couldn't tell.

All there was now, was the Squid Sisters' house, a little in the distance. Another picket house like any other. But was Mag safe out here? In there?

...what now?

Alga followed the two along quietly, looking off a ways away as they superjumped and letting her mind wander briefly. It was odd, she thought, that just a few days ago she'd been just fine back home, and now she was scouting a place for a possibly lethal intruder with two Octolings at her side. Not in her comfort zone at all, and definitely not expected.

She really should have just stayed home.

Alga landed just a second or so after Felix and Brutus and stuck close behind them, listening idly as Felixed began speaking. At his signal to set off, though, she hesitated. Return? Were they going to separate? Where did she even go? Just...anywhere? Oh, Squid.

Swallowing, she turned to look over her surroundings, tentatively taking a few slow steps forward. Maybe she find a good starting point first...

Startled by Jax's sudden presence, Wade stumbled back stuttering, "...H-how?!" before freezing up. Blankly looking at Jax, Wade took a slow inhale, as if trying to contain himself, before shutting his eyes and then letting out an incoherent, muffled scream.

Wade took a moment to stand around and dig out the phone number the Dynamo Inkling threw at him, all the while still screeching quietly.

"AAaaaaaaah, someone followed you this time," Wade started gushing.

"And he's a PSYCHOPATH," Wade announced, putting his whole body into flinging the single, pathetically un-aerodynamic scrap of paper at Jax.

As the self-proclaimed Hero of Inkopolis, Max had taken upon a variety of heroic duties, one of which was the research of the great heroes of old. He’d read through the history books, watched several documentaries without falling asleep – heck, he’d even dragged his old crew to the museum at one point, much to their confusion and inevitable dismay. Sure, he’d come off as a bit of a fanboy to his peers, but the damage to his reputation was nothing in comparison to the stories he gathered. Epic battles over worn-torn battlefields. Dramatic struggles and desperate sacrifices. These great heroes had fought, bled, and died in the name of their city, and the more Max studied their bold exploits, the greater he tried to emulate their unspoken courageousness.

…So when Max wandered in and the Cap’n, that great, iron-clad hero who had led his squadron through enemy fire, standing in the kitchen making crab cakes… well, it was needless to say that he was confused. Very confused. And angry because the kid was gone. And panicked because the bottom floor was a red sea. And disgusted, because why the shell would such a respected hero be making fryin’ crabby cakes for some smarmy journalist and his smart-mouth partner who needed a bar of soup shoved in his fryin’ mouth for even insinuating that he was some kind of bumbling adult JUST WHERE IN THE SHELL HAD HE G-

“Y-yes, sir…” With a restrained nod, Max wandered in, though not before glancing down the hallway in obvious search of the Inkling.

He stood in awkward silence for a moment, blankly staring at the Cap’n and the snacks he was making, and attempting repeatedly to ask about the disappearing ink-speck, opening his mouth to say something and then immediately closing it upon realizing that what he was going to say would likely get the cops called on him.

Finally, he settled on something to say.

“Crab cakes… and… coffee. …Huh.”

Taking a deep breath, Max tried again. “Speaking of Jax’s friends… sir,” Looking to see if the old Inkling was listening, he shuffled a bit closer, “you… haven’t seen them around… have you?”
