Setting him down on the couch - the young inkling made sure that he was comfortable, even going as far as getting some spare blankets and a pillow.
There was no point in drinking her hot cocoa at this point - Lili was just way too tired and sleepy. Dumping the drink down the sink she gazed back at the sleeping male inkling before heading upstairs to her room - grabbing the Splattershot on her way up.

Heading into her room - Lili had to admit - having a stranger in her house was... weird. She'd never met this male before - but the young female couldn't just leave him there unconscious on the floor... and who were those mysterious Inklings....? Shaking her head - Lili changed into something more comfortable before crawling into her warm bed that was adorned with stuff animals of different variations - she also then placed the Splattershot in the drawer beside her bed before pulling the covers up.

Closing her eyes Lili found herself falling into a deep slumber - boy - she was exhausted wasn't she?

Welcome to day 2 everyone! Thanks for the wait, finals are over and the ball is rolling again! :D

@Aykorn :
Wake Up

As far as rude awakenings go, this was about on par with being beaten upside the head with a hot frying pan. First, a hat had fallen down and stirred Wade's sleep, then another and another. Then he started to notice that he was moving too. His bed was shaking back and forth and objects on shelves started to simply unshelve themselves. What really made him shoot out of bed, though, was the sound of breaking glassware on the floor.

It was obvious now: there was a serious earthquake running through Inkopolis. In fact, serious enough that Wade started to run through his head what the proper action for an earthquake was. He got himself under a table rooted to the ground and waited for the shaking to stop. Turns out he didn't have to wait long, because, as quickly as it had begun, the quake had stopped, leaving in its wake a huge mess... but overall, nothing was hurt.

Hopefully.

It's 7:36 in the morning. What do you do Wade?

@lonelyrollingsquid

Kiki Haught had a rough night and did not expect a rough morning to follow. Earthquakes are kind of an oddity in the residential areas of Inkopolis and so aren't something people usually plan for--objects are loosely shelved. Heavy, dangerous stuff is sometimes placed on tables. It's something that no one expects.

So, Kiki woke to the sound of her lamp shattering on the floor, her room in total disarray. Objects were strewn all across her apartment like leaves being shaken off of a tree in autumn. Leaping out of bed with her blanket still around her, Kiki dodged the debris on the ground and still falling.

It was dangerous, but she managed to get out of her room before a shelf managed to dislodge itself from the wall it was mounted to, landing right where she had just been running.

And then, as suddenly was it had happened, it stopped. There were a lot of inklings on the balcony already jabbering about the quake.

It is 7:36; what do you do Kiki?

@Banshee

Wake Up

Alga's floor was already in disarray, but this certainly didn't help anything. Since she was already awake, when the tremors began to get serious, she hopped out of bed in kid form, gathering her guitar and quickly skittering to her doorframe as baubles and bric-a-brac found its way to gravity's grasp.

All the while, Alga sat in the doorframe, waiting for the quake to run its course, clutching her Krak-on DX85 to her chest tightly. What was going on? Earthquakes never happened in Inkopolis!

It's 7:37 when the tremors ceased. What do you do Alga?

@xCoCo

Lili's stuffed animals had an order to them. One that no one knew but her, but an order nonetheless. Even sleeping, she never seemed to disturb that. But when Lili woke up, she found her pile of plushies and beanie babies all over the floor in disarray, not to mention her books and her papers. Oh no!

Running downstairs--noting each picture was crooked or fallen--Lili was careful to avoid broken glass from fallen frames. She had to check on the boy! Was he okay?

Now on the lower level, she ran to the living room, looking to check on her surprise houseguest. And lo and behold, he had fallen off the couch... and the bookshelf had fallen on him. Lili was about to panic when she heard something from under the mess.

"H-hey! Somebody there? Help!"

It's 8:39; what do you do Lili?

@Topazrekerboy Yeah I have no idea where you'd find a wooden cabin in Inkopolis. But I'll roll with it. Not much detail I can add to the situation as a result, unfortunately.

Wake Up

Living in the more wild parts of a park had its benefits. Most notably solitude. Whenever Rhin wanted to be alone--which was often--all he needed to do was get home. As such, Rhin was used to getting up late and curse anything that acted as an early alarm.

Turns out nature has a pretty sick sense of humor because an earthquake is a pretty cruel alarm clock. Various tools skittered to the floor as a very irritated Rhin, jumped out of bed and dashed to get out of his home, nearly stabbing his foot with a sharp shard that had made its way to the floor.

When he got out, the shaking stopped. It was 7:36; what will you do Rhin?

@SP3CT3R Welcome to the RP; hope it was worth the wait!

Eric Knight had everything any kid would ever want. His family was quite well off, so he had anything he wanted to support his hobby, namely designing better weapon combinations and models--hey, it ran in the blood. He liked to think, further, that he wasn't too bad looking. Not only that, he had been blessed with the wits and talent to take on the family name.

Sometimes, he stayed up all night designing a custom model of a weapon simply tuning specs--that or he got up early in the morning to tinker. Today was one of those days.

Eric had gotten up early in the morning to mess around with a .52 Gal Deco--it wasn't too hard for him to get his hands on one with family connections... just a little harder to get it out of the house for testing. Anyway, he was trying to get the sub to synch with the Bomb Rush ability which would make for a real killer combo and dominate the meta as great pushing weapon. Would be more killer than the Killer Wail.

And that's when he heard it. The screaming. His mom in hysterics. His dad seemed angry. A heavy electric sound resonated through the house and the noise stopped. That was more frightening. Eric picked up his weapon and was about to move to the door, a feeling of dread permeating his body when it was kicked in and three men in suits, faces covered and eyes obscured, all held NZap-looking weapons aimed straight at him.

"Don't move!" said one of them, weapon brandished. His glasses over his eyes and nylon collar over his face made it hard to make out any features, but he was the tallest of the three.

"Sir, he's just... he's just a kid!" Another, shorter but in the same getup, seemed to have second thoughts.

"Let's just get it over--"

A sudden quake erupted, knocking everyone off their feet. It would have been worse for Eric if he wasn't in the development room at the desk. Worse like it was for the suit-and-ties. Bookshelves--very, very heavy, textbook-lined bookshelves--made a sudden commune with gravity and he could hear two of them splat. The last one, the shortest one who had had pity on him, had his leg trapped under a shelf. It was almost pathetic to see him morph from squid to biped form, only to have some limb another trapped under the sheer girth of the shelf.

The man was in incredible pain and he screamed over the cacophony.

Eric, on the other hand, scrabbled under the table which was a smart choice because all around him, books fell like rain. His Deco was still clutched in his hand, emotional security in this very crazy event.

And then it stopped. Crawling out, he found the room in total disarray. There were gray splats on the floor under two bookshelves which had toppled, taking out the two agents. The other man was no longer screaming. Just crying. His gun lay at the floor near the desk, partially hidden by some rather daunting texts.

What do you do, Eric?
((Have fun! Good luck on day two! If you feel I've mischaracterized your character or made an error in what your house is like, just let me know.))

Alga felt her heart pound in her chest with a frightening intensity, and it was with a fear more than she had ever known that she clutched her guitar case close to her form. From further within the house she heard as her grandparents yelled and argued, dismissing it easily to panic and general confusion and focusing on herself for the time being.

The earthquake came to a stop rather quickly considering the circumstances. Alga remained under the doorframe for several minutes afterwards, staring around the messy room blankly as her mind ran a mile a minute. When no further shockwaves seemed forthcoming, reluctantly did the Inkling relax and loosen her grip on her guitar.

What...was that?

Quietly, she got up from her sitting spot and moved into the hallway after carefully setting her guitar case down. As expected, her grandparents could be heard causing a ruckus still, but yet again she dismissed it. They did it all the time, and she'd been with them long enough to have grown used to it.

As they seemed too focused on themselves to direct their attention towards her, and as she felt too awake at the moment to go back to bed, Alga busied herself with fixing up a quick meal of crackers, some bologney, and the leftovers of a previously sampled chicken leg which she heated up. She ate in silence, pondering the events of the morning and wondering just what had happened.

Alga spent close to an hour in the kitchen, eating her breakfast and idly listening in on her grandparents when they decided to come into the kitchen. It was when her eyes began to feel a bit heavy that she got up once more, waving to her family as she moved past. "Yeah, I'm gonna go back to bed."

"Why? An earthquake just happened! What if it happens again?" Naturally her grandmother protested, but she paid her no mind. At the moment, she was a little too tired to care.

"Mmh."

The only thing the Inkling did when she got back to her room was set her beloved guitar under the doorframe in case something did occur again. Its case was high quality, able to withstand a lot of beatings, but she didn't quite trust it to get the job done in this situation. When that was finished, she took a quick survey of her room and cleaned up the things that had fallen, setting them back where they came from and making it seem as though nothing had happened.

Alga didn't bother shifting form this time around, resolving to simply crawl into bed and be done with it. It was too early to be running around...

Darkened by the curtains, the world around Wade was shaking and dropping things on him, and being really tremulous in gener-- was that glass!?

Wade sat up in an instant, finally recognizing that everything was shaking. Quaking. An earthquake. He gave a stupefied glance around the dark room. What was he supposed to do again? His bed was rocking like an arcade ride.

He was dazed by the shrieking sound of the building trembling, and-- There was giant window right next to him, wasn't there? Find cover.

Flinging his blankets off (and a couple of hats), Wade dove off his mattress as a squid. With a shape-shift back, he grabbed a table leg and slid under his desk, just in time to wait out the last few tremors. The sound of screaming and crashing --the general cacophony of panic-- reminded him that he was, in fact, in his apartment in a multi-floor building. Wade kept his eyes wide open, watching the silhouettes of things fall.

When Wade was absolutely sure the shaking had stopped, he waddled on his knees out from under the desk. "Holy Kraken " Wade whispered. Disoriented didn't even begin to cover it. What just happened? An earthquake. An earthquake just happened.

Overwhelmed by the series of events, Wade simply flopped face-down on the floor.

Things had stopped shaking, but he could still feel vibrating. Probably adrenaline. Laying on the floor, Wade could hear his heart pounding twice as loud, but he stayed face-planted until he could make sense of things.

Finally realizing he should move, Wade pried himself off the ground and blinked. What time was it? He tottered towards the curtains and pulled them away. The daylight was blinding.

Wade hissed as he covered his eyes. Morning. As his eyes adjusted he noticed, of all things, his phone charger had stayed in place. Wade grabbed the shell phone off the floor, and checked the time. He was wrong-- it wasn't morning. It was 7:37 AM, an unholy time before 9 for only the super or sub-inkling.

He looked back at his room. The shelves were secured, but it looked like a hat avalanche had happened. The Hat-pocalypse. He was even thinking that with the whole Annie thing, he might be able to tidy up his hats, but never mind.

Right. Annie. Everything about yesterday came rushing back to him. Despite reminding himself that he needed to find an open area outside after this, Wade started rummaging for his notebook.

It was being difficult to find with his apartment so trashed. Maybe he could use this, though. A back up plan for any sketchy behavior he got caught for would be nice, thinking ahead for the next two or so days. Right now, he could pack a bag and none of his stuff would be more out of place than it already was.

Quickly, he found his bike panniers, stuffing them with some spare gear, electronic chargers and some more writing utensils. His shoved his laptop, which was safely on the floor the whole time, into a sling-over bag.

He was pretty awake at this point so he went into the bathroom to grab his toothbrush and changed clothes. The shattering noise he heard? Thankfully not the bathroom mirror, but glasses had fallen from the kitchenette and now littered the walkway in pieces.

Wade grimaced, but at least that looked like the worst of the damage. He shoved his bags under his bed to grab later, taking his everyday items + a notebook, like he was just going to ink battle. He grabbed his helmet and a random cap off the ground, carefully stepping around the glass shards as he left the room.

He had to wonder, just how bad had this earthquake been? He'd check in, let people know he wasn't missing or a casualty, maybe help out if need be, but after that, he was heading to the Plaza.

((Sorry if my post's a little short, first posts are always hard.))

Eric got up from under the desk. It wasn't until then that he realized he had a splitting headache and was completely winded. Something must've fallen on him and he didn't notice due to the adrenaline spike. Eric surveyed the room, and it looked like somebody set off an explosive. Actual TNT, not ink explosives. There were two gray splotches of ink where bookcases fell on the intruders. Eric realized he should probably evacuate, as there could be another earthquake.

Oh man - what had happened?!

When she came to Lili had noticed the mess that became of her room. Her plushies and bean babies were all over the floor! Even her books and papers...
It was then she recalled her guest that was in the living room - was he okay!? Almost immediately the female inkling scurried out of bed - nearly tripping over her own two feet.

As tired as she was - she had to make sure that boy was okay... wit that thought she grabbed the Splattershot

Heading downstairs she notice just how much of a mess her house now was - broken glass littered all over the floor... she had to clean that up as soon as possible - Lili didn't want anyone to step on the shards and hurt their feet... that would not be good. Once she headed to the living room she noticed her house guest had fallen off of the couch and the bookshelf had fallen on him.

For a couple of seconds she just stared at the scene before her - not sure if she should laugh, sweat drop, cry, or stare in shock.

"Uh! Uhm! Hold on!" She called to her the male thinking for a second - "I'm going to ink you a path - okay?" His weapon had to have some ink left over right?
If not she could try to lift the bookshelf or.... pull him out, but, here she was hoping it wouldn't come to that point. Taking a deep breath she began to ink the area.

Kiki stood in the hall, taking a moment for the thudding in her chest to still. She decided it was best to get changed then check the rest of the damage. Navigating through her room was a struggle, and thinking about fixing the damage made her feel sick. After changing she shakily made her way through the rest of the apartment.

The dining area was a mess, but that wasn't the fault of the tremors. It had already been quite unkempt before the quake, but now a few things (books, trinkets) that she had left in a pile on the dining table had been knocked to the ground.
Most notably was yesterdays wallet, which she slipped into her pocket, and her phone, which she cringed as she turned it over. A spiderweb-like crack sprawled across the screen which wasn't there yesterday, and cursing herself she pocketed it.

The living area was less fortunate. A ceiling light had been shaken loose and shattered across the floor.
The television looked fine, and she turned it on. It worked fine as well but the image was obscured by black bars running across the moniter.
Disc cases and boxes which had been stored in the cupboard beneath the television had been shaken loose and had been strewn across the ground.
And her gaming consoles looked fine, but she wasn't in the mood to check closer.

Kiki was becoming quite distressed and decided to head out onto the balcony. She was overwhelmed by the amount of commotion going on and tried to find a conversation about the recent earthquake she could join.

Kids and squids had conglomerated outside Wade's apartment, all buzzing with conversation about the crazy event that'd just happened. Lots of confused conversations flung different pieces of information around, but two of which caught Wade's ear.

One conversation went over the fact that Inkopolis had never, in its history, had an earthquake. That made sense because, considering the shortage of land, larger cities were built in less dangerous topography. Low rainfall, less disaster-prone land was preferable.

The other conversation went over a conspiracy theory involving Octo Valley. Devious plans involving a drill in the earth. But it made sense: the Octolings were driven into Octo Valley after the war and if they were growing there, they'd eventually need more room to expand. Underground made sense. Still, it was claptrap, at heart. Probably.

All considered, what will you do Wade? Talk or leave...?

@lonelyrollingsquid

Talk: Anyone

There was certainly a lot of conversation around to hop into.
Most conversations covered the interesting fact that the earthquake had ruined their apartment and how inconvenient it was. On the other hand, a few more interesting topics had arisen.

Two inklings were discussing what effects this would have on Inkopolis. The city isn't prepared for this kind of event and it's possible that some basic functions might have been damaged in the wreck--one of them, a girl in her nightclothes--seemed to be kind of an expert on the topic. She had some interesting theories that the other inkling, a boy wearing only his pants, was listening intently.

Another conversation was about possible reasons that the quake might have occurred. This was an oddity so it might be interesting to learn about why the quake might have happened. The boy who was talking about it seemed pretty reasonable.

Who to talk to Kiki?

Ink / Use: Splattershot

Lili wasn't great at shooters, but even she couldn't miss at point blank.
Scooping up the Splattershot, which she had found lying on the floor next to the spot she had left it, she shot a path for the house guest to escape through and said, "p-pink! The ink is pink so you can swim!"

With a groan and a pop, she heard the inkling swim through her ink trail and reemerge in front of her. "Thank ya, ya saved my skin!" But taking a quick look at the gun in her hands, he shouted, "h-hey! That's mine! Give it back!" He made a leaping grab for the gun but Lili sidestepped it and he fell on his face. He got back up and kept eyeing the gun.

Looks like he's going to keep at it... what do you do Lili?

Considering the chaos that just happened here, getting outside and away from this mess seemed the best plan of action. Climbing over the wreckage of the room and ignoring the sobs of his would-be assailant, Eric ventured out of the room.

Eric's manse was nothing less than a mansion with three floors and more rooms than the Knights knew what to do with--one of the many perks of being the family that holds the market on some of the most popular weapon patterns. But with a mansion and a long family history comes a huge coat of arms and that seemed to have found a more appropriate place on the floor. The bottom floor. After crashing through the stairs down.

The room he was on was on the second floor right across from his parent's room, which apparently had had more armed men in it.

No way down. And maybe some people who may or may not have killed his parents may or may not have been in the other room. It was also possible that those three were the only assailants.

The only think Eric knew for sure was that there wasn't going to be an easy way down. What will you do?

((OOC: oops! Sorry I didn't notice it cuz apparently Squidboards thought it was ok to unwatch this thread -.- also, the wooden cabin is a little bit outside of Inkopolis.))

Rhin was caught 100% by surprise by this massive quake. After we ran outside, he peeked at the damage inside the cabin. It was trashed. All the wooden tables and cabinets he spent hours sawing ruined!

He went back outside and saw that everything like the trees and everything we just fine. "That's good atleast" Rhin said to himself, but let's get back on topic. "This earthquake never happened before. If this was common, I would've built my cabin more carefully armed, but this isn't normal. I need answers. Now." Rhin said as he saw people around Inkopolis Plaza. He dug through the wreckage, found his super jump pod and super jumped towards Inkopolis.

As Wade sauntered out of the building, he tied his tentacles back up, only to stick them under the Camo Mesh cap he snatched off the floor. This whole Earthquake business was a pain, but he needed to keep moving with this Deepview break-in plan.

Strange as it was, he could focus clearly now that all the adrenaline ebbed away. There were now steps in his head: Call Jax, get a weapon somehow (That's probably where Jax came in), maybe find a place to stash this bike and definitely find a way to OctoValley...

And yes, he was going through with this.

Not because he was scared he'd have no other options other than being plagued by paranoia. No, what scared him more was the regret.

Of course, the path to returning Annie would be fraught with danger! He'd prepare for it correctly. And he could do this; he was no pushover as a strategist and a sniper.

But most importantly, if this chance existed, he wouldn't let it slip away. Wade less told himself this, more of made a promise.

Outside the apartment building was all hubbub and confusion. Other kid residents had the same idea to get out in the open after the quake, and congregated inklings meant lots of conversing.

Hmm, so Inkopolis has never had an earthquake before? And at a time when people happen to be disappearing, and being replaced by suit-and-tie goons. In-ter-est-ing. What else has Deepview done!?

Wade took a step, then snapped himself out of that thought. He had to avoid the "blame it all on Deepview" mentality. Every accusation he made needed to be backed up by proof, he reminded himself, remembering his notebook sitting snugly under his hat.

Another conversation caught his ears. Drilling in Octo Valley. An outlandish and yet feasible explanation for a freak earthquake.

Wade stopped his path towards his bike and pivoted, drawing himself back towards the conversation. Lately he was in the mood for conspiracy theories. And Octo Valley? Was there a reason the meet up was staged there? Where had they heard this theory in the first place? Do you know how to get to Octo Valley, that would be useful, please.

"
What are you talking... about? Octo Valley?"

Eric swore under his breath. He knew that that thing would topple eventually. He had no idea how to get out, and had to think of one fast. There was still the possibility that another earthquake could hit, or more of those guys with the guns could come in. Could he try to make the jump? Maybe jump out a window? There had to be some way he could escape before disaster struck again.

Windows? Bulletproof? Jump? Definite splat.
What he need was some way to get down without needing to fall... a ladder or another set of stairs. The house was symmetrical and though this set of grand stairs was out, the one on the other side of the house might not be. Then again, there was another family crest on that end of the house so...

There was surely a fire escape somewhere. Maybe somewhere on a balcony? Or maybe outside one of the thousand windows. A emergency map would be good to find, but where would that be? Further, the only balconies in the house were in Eric's room and his parent's rooms...

What do you do, Eric?

Kiki tuned in an out of various conversations until one caught her interest. A boy talking about reasons for the quake. She walked over to where he was babbling and listened, waiting for a break in the conversation. When there wasn't one, she swallowed and in a meek voice she spoke up.

"Do you... um, know what's happened?"

On one end she was glad that her guest was safe and sound.... but on the other end....

"It's no problem. You aren't hurt or anything are you? You were out cold last night!" Lili blinked when he suddenly made a leaping grab for his gun.
"W-wait! Hold it! Calm down....uh, little one!" It's not like he she knew his name or anything... the young inkling couldn't help but snicker when he fell onto his face.
The humour was short lived when he got back up to try and reach for the gun once again.

Taking a couple a of steps back Lili jumped behind the couch; her tentacles flowing behind her- maybe talking to him would calm this little pesky one? Either way - she would have to calm down. Peering from behind the couch - she gazed at the unknown inkling - if he tried to grab the gun again she'd just move. It isn't as if she'd run out of hiding places.

"Please keep your voice down - it's early in the morning. Anyways what happened to you last night? I found you unconscious!"

@Topazrekerboy Sorry about the house thing, but I'm not changing it now. I don't really think that there is going to logically be a wooden cabin anywhere in Inkopolis or near it save maybe Camp Triggerfish. Further don't buy the whole "not getting a notification" thing because I put tags in my posts for that exact reason. >:l Just notify me if you don't want to post or are busy--I get it.

Wade motioned for him to slow down. Chill. Sure, he was more awake now, but it was still morning. “Whoa, whoa. First of all, how could you know that?”

“I…” The crazed one grabbed his head seemingly in pain. “I… know. I just know. Okay? I’ve gotta keep saying it. I forgot. I need to remember!”

A second inkling, who had, surprisingly, stayed to listen to him kindly pulled Wade’s attention to her by making a pretty obvious gesture to ignore him. She followed it up saying, “I’m sorry about my roommate. It’s just nonsense, don’t worry about him. That’s my job.”

Wade gave the girl a small smile. “I’m not too worried, but Octo Valley… sounds like a cool place, y’know?” He glanced back to the other dude. “Thought it’d make a cool vacation spot, so it’s a shame that you forgot where you heard that.”

….Forgot where he heard it. Wade noted that to himself.

“Don’t. No. Don’t go there. It’s… it’s…” he started crying.

“Oh come on, don’t be a big baby,” the girl began. “You haven’t even been th--”

“I’ve been there! I know that much! I have to remember that! I was there... but why?” He was drawing a bit of a crowd, while simultaneously pushing a lot of people away, which was pretty impressive all considered.

‘Hey,” Wade lightly touched the boys arm and looked at him directly, “I believe you.” It wasn’t just to stop the scene, Wade was starting to think person knew something, or at least had known something. “Do you... remember anything else?”

He looked at Wade, nose draining down his face. “I… more?” he seemed to physically rack his mind for things. It was like Wade could see him making the mental effort to grasp a memory that was there and wasn’t. “The Squid Sisters. How are they doing?”

“They’re still lost dingbat,” his roommate responded. Unlike Wade, she seemed pretty done with this.

“...lost?” He seemed to accept this idea while simultaneously rejecting it. Like he was sure he knew they were lost, but not sure if they were or not. It was a queer kind of face.

“Yeah, they’re still gone,” Wade replied. “‘Sick leave.’ Were you a fan?”

“Yes?” he said, more a question than an answer.

“Pff, a fan?” his roommate retorted, clearly amused. As the grin grew on her face, she went on. “You were dead-set on marrying Marie. Remember? ‘Best girl’?”

Wade smirked back at that, but also noted that his suspicion was confirmed. Squid Sister fan + Memory loss + Octo Valley = exactly what he thought. Thank you, Roomie with intact memory.

“Unfortunately,” Wade said, “I’ve always been more of a ‘Team Callie’ person.” He grinned. Hadn’t said this in a while, not with the disappearance. “Anyways,” he continued, “you guys seem pretty cool. You also live in the building?”

“Yeah,” the girl answered, “I’ve seen you around--you’re pretty good with a charger. Now, before you say that’s weird I try to keep tabs on all the battlers around here and you’re pretty high up in the rankings. Amorine’s my name and betting’s my game.” She grinned a pretty smile and held her hand out to Wade for a curt handshake.

After they’d exchanged the courtesy, she continued “this special starchild is Simone. He’s been my friend for a long time, but he’s been pretty odd lately. But only sometimes! I swear,” She grabbed Simone’s mouth before he could say anything more, because it seemed like he wanted to. “We live two floors down from you. I wouldn’t mind placing a bet or two on you, so visit if you want.”

Wade rubbed the back of head sheepishly, but he was grinning. “Wow, I’m flattered you noticed me out of all the battlers here.” He was actually pretty ecstatic about the recognition. He worked his tail off, getting good with chargers. “I might definitely do that,” he told her.

He gave a glance back to Simone. Be a listener, he told himself. “Simone, right? ...Did you have anything else you wanted to say?”

“Oh I’m sure he does,” Amorine chirped, still clutching her hand over his mouth. You could hear him mumbling over her grasp and see him flailing to get out of her grip. “But me and crazy here have really gotta go for the sake of my sanity. Toodles!”

Wade snorted a grin, but he still had one last question. And no, this wasn’t a shameless ID swap. He was genuinely curious, for his own sake.

He shouted out to the two as they left, “Hey, do either of you ink battle? Are either of you any good?” Specifically, he thought, was Simone any good?

“I battle for fun sometimes, but I’m no good. The odds are not in my favor,” Amorine noted as she dragged her partner behind her. “Simone, when you can get him to sit down and focus or really do anything these days is a pretty dangerous player with a Slosher. Best odds on Tower Control.”

She managed to shove Simone into the elevator--aka deathtrap--and hit the button to close the door before dancing out, effectively trapping her partner in there. “He needs a time out. And I need some time off. So I repeat,” she said skipping down the stairs, two by two, “toodles!”

“Ha ha, yeah ...bye” Wade weakly replied, waving, but also aware that the conversation with who Amorine considered a lunatic had been prolonged. Y’know, with specifically asking Simone for details. About this place he may or maynot have gone to, then forgot about. Wade gave a strained smiled, and kept waving, realizing that he probably looked slightly batty now, too. “Yeah, I’ll just… I’m... I’m going to leave, too.”

Talk: Inkling Boy

Kiki tuned in and out of various conversations until one caught her interest. A boy talking about reasons for the quake. She walked over to where he was babbling and listened, waiting for a break in the conversation. When there wasn't one, she swallowed and in a meek voice she spoke up.

"Do you... um, know what's happened?"

He seemed to perk up almost immediately, almost sensing interest. He had a small grin on his face when he said, "well, knowing and speculating are two different things. I have some theories, sure, but what really happened, well, that's really hard to say considering it just happened right now."

She jolted at his sudden perkiness. "Theories..? Such as...?"

"Well, there's the most simple one if you know the history of Inkopolis," he began. "You may remember that we are not but a few miles away from Octo Valley. That land had been bombed to kingdom-come what with Clearstrikes still being a legal weapon and all."

He continued, now having gathered a small crowd outside the apartment. "It's possible that the bombings were massive enough, considering the radius, to shift the fault lines under Inkopolis such that, after some time of the planet's crust moving, a new fault line opened under Inkopolis making the earthquake possible."

"Though, of course, that's just speculation. There are other ways. You wanna hear some more silly ones or more reasonable ones?"

Kiki felt her face burning as people began to crowd around them, and spoke tentatively. "The reasonable ones, I guess"

"Good! I like sensationalism as much as the next guy, but seriously that which makes sense makes the world go round." He beamed at Kiki, seemingly proud of her good sense. "The next best guess is the fact that Inkopolis has begun work on an underground railway, a subway, that is. Funded by tax dollers, no one has seen hide nor hair of the work. Funny how that turns up. This one seems like a conspiracy theory, but the job is, in fact, available and the railway building plans are available online. I've tracked the money myself... it's going on. It's possible that this is a result of explosion from tunnel-making."

It took Kiki a moment to register what the boy had said. She felt bothersome for probing, but seeing as he was an expert on the topic, she wanted to gather as much as she could from him. "So, just tunnel making... anything else?"

"Well," he seemd to rack his mind. "There are the less statitistically probable answers. There's someone claiming the Octolings are drilling under us, but let's be honest, where would they get the power? We Inklings have a monopoly on zapfish and seeing as we don't trade to them, well, they're stuck in the stone age. Otherwise, it's possible this wasn't a quake at all, like the explosive tunnel-making theory. But it's dipping into conspiracies again. It's silly."

"Explosive tunnel making theory? Could you... what's that one?"

"Oh, you know, the making of the subway. That one. Sorry if I wasn't clearer."

"Oh... right... so, that's all, I guess?"

"Well..." he seemed interested in dumping the information he had, even if it wasn't something he thought was factual. "There's a rumor in Octo Valley that they house one of the Deep Ones of lore. A god made flesh. I don't know all the mythos, but as we all know from small snippets of nonsense we're taught as children, these beings could destroy us with a whisper if they wanted." His voice was very theatrical and captivating to listen to--it was charming, really.

"Anyway, I've had a friend talk about one time he went to Octo Valley and a tremor occured there. At that time, he could feel a voice that seemed displeased. Like it wasn't getting something it wanted. If it's a god... well, I just hope the Octolings know what it wants." He smirked, clearly proud of his own storytelling.

It was clear that the boy had nothing else of interest to say, and she thanked him, and sifted back out of the crowd.

Talk: Unknown Inkling Boy?

"Please keep your voice down - it's early in the morning. Anyways what happened to you last night? I found you unconscious!"

He seemed legitimately baffled by that. The good news was that he stopped grabbing for the gun. Still, the bad news stood: he didn't seem too literate. "Un-conches? Is that like nawt a shell? Wait! Oy remember! Where's the others!"

"Un-conches?" Lili seemed confused by his words. "No, I mean you were asleep." It seemed he connected the dots in a....strange way. "The others?" Was he referring to the the group of Inklings that had run away? "If you're talking about the group you were with - they ran away. I don't know where they went but.... I brought you here because I couldn't wake you up and I didn't want to leave you alone out there." She explained softly - staring at the male inkling.

"Oh." He seemed baffled and dumbstruck all at once. "Oh um. What was it they told me ta do in this situation... Um..." He seemd to be patting his pants over. "Wallet... wallet... wallet... lands below where the inkin'... I swear I had it..." He started to dig through the rubble of books Lili had just inked him out of.

After about ten minutes of this, he gave up. "Well. As Felix did put it, Oy'm screwed."

She watched as he headed over to the fallen bookshelf; moving out from behind the couch catiously. "Felix - who is - Felix?" She tapped her chin - it seems like he couldn't find his wallet. "Oi! What's your name? Mine's is Lili - if you're in my house I may as well call you.... something. It doesn't have to be your real one... I just need to call you something." She rubbed the back of her head. "Anyways - I didn't see anything like a wallet on you, But maybe I missed it? I can help you search for it if you'd like. You seem kind of hopeless."

Looking up from his predicament, he asked, "Why would Oy give ya a fakey fake name? Oy'm Brutus and on my honor, Oy'd highly appreciate tha help." He seemed to miss the implication that Lili might have searched his pockets for odd things and even seemed to forget about his gun.

Together, they searched the pile of books and nicknacks for the wallet, but to no avail. After nearly thirty minutes Brutus let himself collapse on the couch while crying "it's impossible. Screwed, screwed, screwed!"

"Brutus, huh?" She tilted her head - this guy was most certainly an interesting fellow.

"Well - nice to meet you I suppose." Lili nodded her head when he asked for her help - however it proved futile - his wallet was nowhere to be found. "Hey! Cheer up." Lili gave him an encouraging pat on the head. "We'll find it! Where was the last place you saw it? Do you think maybe the people you were with took it? What's in it that you really need?" There had to be a reason why he was desperately searching for it.

He stopped and thought. It seemed to be a truly foreign process as it seriously looked like he was going to pop a vien or something doing so. "Oy... Oy last 'ad the thing when Oy was out last night. Oy was going to the meeting and checking my notes fer our meetup... mother of pearl, Oy probably dropped it yesterday."

He grimaced and continued, saying "My instructions are in there. Oy'm supposed to use those to get back home in case Oy get separated."

"Meeting? Where was your meeting? Maybe if we go back there we can find it?" Lili crossed her arms - "Wait - you don't know where your home is? Are you new here?" It was strange to think the Brutus needed instructions to get back home - more suspcious anything else, really. "Who was the group you were with... friends? Why did they run away? Actually if they were your friends they wouldn't have left you." What kind of friends would abadon their own anyways? It seemed weird, "They all had hankercheifs like you... so I couldn't really see their face..."

"Oy, um, Oy... 'Oy'm not at liberty to disclose that inform-mation!'" He parroted. "Oy think. Um. Question! What do ya think of Callie and Marie?" It was out of the blue, but seemed important to him. He was looking at Lili hopefully.

"I can't help you find your wallet then, Brutus. If you need instructions to go home.... I have a feeling letting you go outside by yourself is just going to get you lost. And who knows what will happen to you THIS time." Her tone turned serious when he mentioned the Squid Sisters. "Well - I think it's weird that they've been gone for this long." Lili let out a sigh. "Can someone be sick for this long? I mean..." She whispered softly. "Hm. I know Callie and Marie would tell us if they were going to be gone for a long while....But." She shook her head. "Why do you ask, Brutus? You wouldn't happen to know anything do you?"

He scratched his head, confused at what she said, "Look, do ya like 'em or don't ya!"

Shaking her head - Lili nodded her head. "Of course I do! Who doesn't like the Squid Sisters! Why? What brough this up?" She seemed confused by his sudden change of topic. "Is there something on your mind Brutus?"

As she spoke, he muttered something like "lotsa people don' like 'em." But when he heard her say she did and looked her in the eye, he seemed to have a change of heart.

"Okay, so Oy think Oy can trust'cha. See... me and my mates we were gonna..." he started pacing, seeming to struggle with himself to actually say what he was saying. "We was gonna go and infiltrate the Sis's home." Then, as if catching how weird what he was saying was, he added, quickly, "they just been gone so long and we was worried and we had a spare key and, golly I just... we miss them."

If she had heard his statement - Lili would have likely asked him just who Brutus was referring too. After all, the Squid Sisters seemed to be just loved by about everyone - the young inkling had yet to run into someone that didn't... But what if they did...? Would they try to do something to them? Shaking off the uneasy feeling - her eyes widened slightly at Brutus's confession. "How did you get a spare key...? You do know you can get into a lot of trouble if you are caught, right?" While she knew that Brutus likely had the best intentions - he was treading on dangerous grounds here.

"Okay, um, promise ya'll nawt get all riled up and stuff?" He seemed legitimately worried about whatever it was he was going to say or do. "Pinky promise me that ya'll nawt! Then Oy'll tell."

"Mhm. Okay, Brutus! Pinky promise I'll keep my cool." Lili was most certainly a calm individual - whatever he wanted to say - she'd brace herself. "So?" Lili tapped her food waiting patiently for the males response.

They pinky swore, then he said, "remember. Ya promised." He took off his beanie then, and out dropped the springy curls of an Octoling.

If he hadn't given her a warning beforehand it'd be more then likely Lili would have screamed OCTOLING!! And probably would have started chucking things in his direction while she proceeded to freak out. But for an Octoling he wasn't as bad as she thought. After all the Octolings were their sworn enemies - and it wasn't as if he splatted her...or anything or had done anything to hurt her. So, she'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

"O-Octoling?" She squeaked out barely managing to keep her cool - although her expression showed just how shocked she was. Well, nothing could have prepared her for Brutus's reveal. "So, what's going on? Were your friends also Octolings? Were you telling the truth about the Squid Sisters...? You aren't from around here.... are you?"

"Oy, um, ya see, the Squid Sisters aren't exactly totally well-liked by all of our kin but... they're really nice!" He broke into a huge grin before he continued, "they said they were patrolling one day in Octo Valley when they came upon me and me mates when we were bein' harrassed by some other Octolings."

He kept going, seeming to relive the memory with glee, "well they gave them what for! Didn' matter that we was Octolings or they was Inklings! They taught us to defend ourselves and Oy will never forget that! We promised them a favor for their help and we'll never forget that, no sir!"

His cheesy grin shrank to a something more modest, though no less honest. "They stayed our friends even after that. They always wanted to 'ear about our tradtions and junk so we came by all the time for that. Anyway, we heard summut about them bein' missin' and well... we came to investigate, but Aelia be sayin' 'there's cam-e-rahs' now or summut. So... yeah. She told me breakin' that cable would help so Oy did done it! Ah!"

He seemed to remember then, "then Oy fell! Hah! Musta been why me head hurts so much!"

"That would make sense. You are Octolings. But most of us Inklings do love the Squid Sisters. Why were you being harassed? Do the Octolings not like you?" It seemed strange that one of his own kind would pick on him. Or maybe it was that specific group. "I'm glad the Squid Sisters helped you. It sounds like them." Lili gave him a genuine smile. “So, I am guessing you want to return the favour and figure out what is going on here then?” If the Octolings were now aware the Squid Sisters were missing… maybe this was a lot bigger then she thought?

Upon hearing his confession about the cable she pouted pointing a finger at him. “Brutus…” She whined out. “I didn’t get to drink my hot cocoa last night……..” Just the thought of not drinking her sweet beverage and being able to have her relaxing time caused her to sulk slightly.

“Oh – does your head hurt? Do you want something to drink?” Lili questioned concerned perking up when he mentioned he had fallen. Almost immediately she began to press her hands against Brutus’ head. “Does it hurt anywhere?” If he fell and hit his head it was a cause for concern. “You’re lucky you weren’t electrocuted!”

"Electra-cuted?" He mimicked. "Um, sure, Oy's love summut to drink. But yes, my head does hurt a bit." He started to poke someplace on his head, then recoiled in surprise when it apparently stung a lot to touch. Seemingly to distract himself, he went on.

"Anyway, Oy don't know why people pick on other people. Aelia says it's 'cause they feel weak. But Oy don' get that. They're pretty strong to pick on people. Felix says it's because they're jerks. Don't tell Ael, but Oy think he's right."

"Yeah, like, if you touched the cable a wrong way you would have gotten seriously hurt!" Lili stated, when he said that he wanted something to drink, the young inkling nodded her head. "Okay, I'll grab something for you." She was quick to head into the kitchen and grab something to drink for the Octoling. "Here." Lili held out the beverage. "Yeah. But you're probably a lot better then those who pick on people... you know?"

"By the way... If your head hurts - you should be careful. That can get serious, Brutus. But what are you going to do now?" He didn't have his wallet to head back home and who knew where those strange people had gone off too. "If you need help. I can help you." Enemy or not; Lili couldn't turn a blind eye to him. "I know we are supposed to be enemies. But who says enemies can't be friends. I am fine with helping you out."

He seemed to ignore her advice about getting hurt, but jumped on the offer of help. "Oh would'ja! Oy'd just love that! Thank you thank you thank you!" He jumptackled her and pinned her to the floor in a hug Lili totally hadn't expected.

Maybe Brutus didn’t understand how severe it would be if had been zapped by the power cable. Lili would be in much more of a predicament if she came across a dead Inkling… or better yet Octoling. And it wasn’t as if Brutus was a bad….kid, if she could call him that. Lili wouldn’t wish anything bad upon him and he was an interesting… guest. How did she get herself into this situation?

She seemed caught off guard when he suddenly jump tackled her and pinned her to the floor in a hug. “OI! It’s not problem! But be careful with that head of yours! You don’t want to hit it again!” After all she couldn’t even wake him up last night. In a way he was lucky that she had stumbled upon him – who knew what would happen if had revealed his Octoling ways to a different Inkling….

“Calm down Brutus. I know you’re happy but we should figure out what to do.” Lili patted the Octoling on the head. “One thing at a time, okay?”

The two calmed down over some cups of cocoa and Lili pondered what she should do next.

Go To: Inkopolis

The park wasn't too far away from Inkopolis proper.
So it was just a hop skip and a jump away from battles for Rhin. Well, normally. Rubble and debris--glass and the like--lined the streets. The larger buildings weren't meant to withstand this.

As expected, the city was in disarray. Many of the larger buildings were intact and fine, but many others were not. Once again, Inkopolis was not a city built prepared for such a thing as earthquakes and their buildings, less so. Shock absorbers weren't considered necessary, by any means and... a few of the taller, less expensive buildings had toppled. It was a miracle that the Tower had survived.

The main monitor in the plaza was cracked straight down the middle and naught but static displayed on it. Above the din of chaos that erupted from many inklings, a few words could be made out. "Bluefin finally topples," "Ink battles: cancelled," "don't panic," and "trains still work" melted together.

In the center of the square, amid the shattered glass and atop a new fault line in the asphalt, was Jax. Paper and pen out, he was note-taking. No surprise there.

Otherwise, there were plenty of panicked passersby to pester. What will you do Rhin?

"Well..." Rhin said "No reason on to freak out, I'm not dead. Maybe Jax knows something?" Rhin thought. As he sneaked around the crowed and right behind Jax. Dead silent, Rhin was behind him, reading his notes.

Wade unlocked his bike, but not without a quick glance back into the building, wondering how Simone was holding up. The kid was probably going back to his room, but Wade couldn't help feel like his roommate had just stuck him in an inescapable box. Like, naughty children get put in the elevator to atone for their crimes, or some other internet meme that properly described this situation.

But he couldn't help but feel bad at the guy, being discredited by his friend and looking so confused in general. Simone was atoning for something alright; he was paying for getting caught. No memory of the Squid Sisters and residual Octo Valley thoughts? Wade had just found proof that some sketchy parts of the internet were right.

Simone must have tried something-- gone to OctoValley, gone searching for the Sisters--, then gotten nabbed and brain-cleaned. By Deepview. Probably? Wade wasn't quite sure where Octolings drilling into the earth fell in all of this, but Simone met the description of a failed meddler.

And that confused mess of a person would be him if he didn't watch his back. What was Wade doing, asking such sketchy questions in public? He wanted to go back and ask Simone for the way to Octo Valley, but he needed to be more discreet. He'd catch up with Simone later, to look more casual.

In any case, what really disturbed him was that Simone might have been able to handle himself with a Slosher and yet still got his memory wiped. Sloshers... Tower control--that was super controlled, objective based--... there was too little to go off to make a fair comparison.

He'd just have to trust that he could strategize and prepare for whatever situation came up. Aim true if he had to. But he needed to know more to be ready, to be sure. Needed help piecing things together.

With his helmet on and his notebook cleverly hidden under it, Wade started walking his bike and flipping though his phone contacts. He'd head somewhere he knew well on his way to Inkopolis. Maybe a cafe, grab something to eat. But right now Wade was itching to get back to the phone number he'd received yesterday, if only to talk to someone who bought this conspiracy chaos. He'd see how said person was doing after the Earthquake, but also, gauge how willing they was to get mixed up in all of this.

Wade tapped the saved number.

((Hey Reed, can you send more bad guys or another quake or something along those lines so that Eric isn't just scrambling around his house and freaking the frick out for no reason?))

Eric frantically scrambled through his house for a way out, all the while swearing up a storm. Both staircases were blocked, and the launchpad on the roof wasn't completely stable and wouldn't be useable till next Wednesday. If only he'd listened to his parents when they told him about where the fire escapes were. However, there wasn't time to scold himself on being so scatterbrained sometimes. Eric eventually decided that if the fire escapes were anywhere, they'd be on one of the balconies.
