WHERE IS THE SLIDER NERF DELETE THAT SPECIAL PLEASE. I AM SO TIRED OF DREADWRINGER SLIDER BOT PLAYERS INFESTING EVERY ZONES SOLO Q GAME PLEASE.
Considering that they just buffed the paint on TSD, I don't think the devs will be nerfing Slider's paint anytime soon.

There are some things I like and things I don't like about this patch, but I'll hold judgment to see if it can finally shake up this meta we've been stuck in for the past year and a half. If it leads to more weapons being picked and more diversity at both the top level and casual play I'll gladly take it. Pencil and Zooka were my two biggest hopes that they'd finally address and boy did they ever.

As for the short range Shooter buffs, I don't mind them too much because two of them (Jr and Sploosh) were kind of trash anyway as far as the main weapon goes and a bit more range won't hurt them. The Zap buffs help it stand out more and more from the Splattershot rather than being identical in virtually every category that mattered except for range and fire rate. I think with all these shooter buffs, it's pretty hard to call the 52 gal overtuned anymore.

i feel like 52 needs nerfs still. its an infuriatingly annoying weapon to fight

Maybe if everything is getting these kinds of buffs. but there are very clearly more buffs for shooters than the other classes, so we might just be getting closer to shooters as a class being overtuned.

A lot of the weapons I play got buffs in this patch, in particular the Aerospray RG and Dapple Dualies. Plus the Enperry Splat Dualies got two buffs, which is going to be really fun.

What I am interested in is going to be the datamines of this patch. Will we see further work being done in the background on third kits? We'll see!

That's what I feel is happening little by little. I think slowly they're trying to optimize each class to make them play to their strengths more without becoming overtuned. For example, a bunch of weapons in the Splatling class have gotten buffs to either their firing duration, charge time or mobility. Every roller except Swig has gotten more consistent hitboxes and so forth. From the comments in the last two patch notes, it's clear what the developers are going for with their vision.

I do agree that the devs seem to want to increase the general strength of main weapons in S3 but there's a clear bias towards shooters considering how many other weaker options there are that haven't gotten any attention at all while already decent or even good shooters continue to get buffs such as Zap, Shot, and Jr.
Perhaps they will start to buff other weapon classes more though just as they've done for rollers but I'm not exactly optimistic about that.

I find it kinda fun that the patch was kinda short-range-themed. Basically all the weapons that got buffed were on the shorter end of the range spectrum.
Except for Heavy. The odd one out. Maybe it just won the random buff lottory.

And I guess Nova, but even that is on the shorter end of the midline spectrum.
They both won the lottory.

I'm not going to voice any serious complaints about the number of shooter buffs just yet. Each shooter has only received buffs in a single patch since content for the game ended. I won't complain until one of them (other than Nova; this patch's change does nothing for it) gets buffed twice. It would make sense for Nintendo to want to balance the class with the most easily changed parameters first.

I don't have very much to say but sploosh Buff is nice Octobrush is nice painbrush I don't use that often, but they should impact the weapon by a lot And hopefully I can actually kill people now. Now what? I really want to talk about... HAMMER! This Basically makes hammer have Way more splash radius For kills And I am excited for it (sploosh :) This should help for keeping people away and the long Range option being more viable

My panic button (triple splashdown) now covers more area. There's no zones cheese and it's slightly easier to get them out with my enperries so it's kind of just good ig

Updating my thoughts now that I've had some time to test out the new weapon changes.
  • I wasn't sure how impactful the Painbrush buff would end up being but it feels a lot faster than before despite only being a 2 frame difference. The faster kill time will make the weapon more annoying to fight but considering all the other issues it has, I can't complain too much.
  • The splatling buffs to Mini and Heavy are really nice and while they won't really change anything in S3 considering the kits they have, they'll probably end up mattering in S4 as long as the devs give them get good kits. I would say that the buffs were unnecessary though but it's not a big deal.
  • With the improved paint, ink efficiency, and lower pfs Recycled is actually a lot better at playing around its special but outside of soloq Zones, I don't think this will do much for it. Another buff to either its shield, range, or damage combined with the current changes it just got would be so good for the weapon though.
  • Pencil paint nerf is BARELY noticeable. I overestimated how much they would actually end up doing but that miniscule paint nerf on top of the 220p cost does end up mattering a lot. I'm sure it'll still be extremely common right now as everyone continues to use what they're comfortable with but I expect that this nerfed version of Pencil will be enough to make it pop up less in both comp and solo.
  • Decav changes are noticeable but at the very least they're not harsh enough for me to say it's not a top tier anymore. Hopefully the devs are done nerfing the weapon now since adding anything else on top of it might be a bit TOO much. I would have preferred a charged slash size nerf instead but since we didn't get that I guess it's here to stay.
  • Hammer throw is ridiculous now. I've played a good amount of Luna Neo earlier and the consistency I've had with getting Hammer throw kills makes it feel like a diet Zooka shot.
I know that wasn't a lot but there's nothing else I really wanted to talk about since the other changes aren't that interesting to me or I don't have much else to say on the matter.
After all, how many times can I criticize the devs about shooter buffs without it being extremely repetitive?

Getting any patch this week took me so off guard, let alone recycled being arguably the biggest winner. That was not on my bingo card wow

I don't hate the shooter buffs honestly, none of these weapons are that relevant (I doubt aero and nova will ever be relevant lol) outside of junior so sure, whatever. I'm glad nintendo is still trying to buff zap but it's funny how at this point the most relevant zap buff they could make is a wave breaker buff, lmao. Please buff dynamo and nTri though.

I like the other buffs they did honestly, splatlings are cool, it'll be hard to ever make them annoying (except maybe naut). Painbrush is basically a tent weapon so I'm so hype for ultra giga paint bot painbrush lmao. Could work as a weird support, I'm really hopeful for it.

Pencil nerf, sure, I still think it's better than hedit just as an archetype. It's really convenient to have in your comp it just does so much but I wish they nerfed the range or fire rate instead, whatever.

Decav nerf is not what I expected but the paint did feel a bit stupid at times. Mint being able to turf so fast with a bubble felt insane on top of every strength that weapon has. Nerfing the dash is fine by me, that's the biggest problem for tent to deal with.

Hammer is hilarious I love it

Recycled Brella is crazy, I expected a single buff, I didn't think it'd even be meaningful, but I got FOUR

I was expecting ink efficiency eventually, it's really nice, makes using mist a lot easier, it wasn't that bad a weakness but it did feel unecessary.
Paint is huge for it. Now this thing can actually compete with decav in terms of bubble output, and it can PAINT with its bubble. Looking back it's crazy that its paint was that bad before. It also means you'll be using random shield launches less frequently (since your shots can actually paint), so you won't be caught off guard as much, which did happen at times. You can trap people too, and you're no longer a giant burden on your comp! Wow

Now I still don't think mk I will be relevant unless dart gets buffed, but mk II will benefit so much from this, you play around your Splashdowns so much getting more is crazy for it. AND IT'S 190p NOW. AND SPLASHDOWN PAINTS BETTER NOW (... sure?)
I had low expectations but I'm glad they actually tried with the recycled buffs, considering the last one was 9 months ago at this point. It needs a lot but with the right buffs it's basically my only hope for brellas outside of vanilla tent.

Overall really happy with this patch, I'm not biased at all. But even without the recycled changes I'd still say I like it.
