Well seeing how they compared it to Mario and that they've considered the idea of the universe dabbling in other genres, it likely won't be rehashed to Hell and back.

The only IP Nintendo has ever run to the ground with annual releases without much change in content is the Mario Party series. Everything else has one release per system or two at most (with counterpart versions of Pokémon games counting as one release), and Mario Party has slowed down to one-per-generation (which is actually less often than Mario Kart and main-series Legend of Zelda).

Splatoon 2 is guaranteed to be an NX release.

Um... about the Octolings... is there anyone in this thread (or out of it) who would want to see new Octarian-themed weapons/gear released with them?

I for one would like to see at least a reskinned Kelp Charger & Krak-On Roller under the Octoweapon banner, as was the case with the Octoshot. But I'm not sure if I'd want entirely new weapons types just yet.

I'd love that! Reskins would be fine, but new Octarian weapons running on their special energy would be awesome!

Heh, the first real "new" weapon that comes to mind is the Octotrooper Assault Vehicle.

...that actually could work if they were so inclined. They have the main assets already, they'd just have to remodel the joystick or something to include a trigger. I don't know what the subs & special would be though (probably something basic, like Burst Bombs & the Echolocator, with the Twintacle variant having the Splash Wall and Killer Wail or such).

Ninty hasn't announced anything yet this week, and it's Wednesday…They did post something today about an intern failing to post over the holidays :P

It would be really cool if they made that, but I don't know how they would fit it in. If you go into Octo valley and look at these, they are actually larger and taller than an inkling(I'm pretty sure on this, but correct me if I'm wrong). I have heard people say that the inkling boy is worse than the girl because you can see his "hair" over walls. I think you would be some target driving this thing. Also, how would the swimming work? Not the actual swimming, but the transformation? I guess they could just have it disappear, but with a thing that size it would be weird.

…Yeah, the mobility would be a problem, since Octarians move as slow as a rolling Dynamo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they can in fact dive into & move around through their ink (hence the Octotroopers with snorkels).

As to mobility... I think they're just barely slower than an Inkling on foot.

I must check this.

Octolings are pretty much identical to Inklings, gameplay-wise.
All the differences between them are purely cosmetical.


In concept, I can see Octolings being different from Inklings in more things than just looks.
But in gameplay, they are the same, with the exact same stats.

OK, so that was that... seems the default Octotroopers are actually a fair bit slower than I remembered. They move as fast as an Inkling moving forward and shooting straight at the ground.

That being said: when they give chase, they speed up a fair bit as well, but the Inklings are still faster than they are by a smidge.

I think the Twintacle Trooper is faster, but I'm not entirely sure. It might be placebo, it might not. I'm leaning more towards "they are," but I'd have to doublecheck.

And yes, they can move around through their ink.

Okay she's been teasing way too much since 2.4 came out for this all to just be attention hogging. Something big is definitely coming, we just don't know what. Except for the fact that it's totally Octolings

Anyway, with the massive maintenance coming up, the sheer amount of stuff that Nikki and her colleagues are teasing, and the fact that we only have two weapons and one map left to be released, it seems Ninty is finally gearing up for the grand finale 3.0 update. Hype!

In Super Smash Bros for Wii U, everyone knew that Roy was coming, and then data for Ryu was leaked ahead of time. He's comparing those two to Octolings in that everyone thinks that they will come, and files have been found.
