[POLL] Player character demographics of Squidboards

Inspired by a video I watched some time ago and returning member HighColorSunset, I want to know if Squidboards still has a squid majority or if we the octopuses should stage a coup. I am ONLY counting the model you use most in Splatoon 3, since Octolings are paywalled in 2 and NPC only in 1. Feel free to share why you made your decision: IRL or ideal appearance, connection to personality or lore, whatever I may have missed. I like hearing about what goes through other people's brains!

Example (I do not imagine most of you are sickos to the same degree as me): I have lots of OCs and a wide (if weak) weapon pool. The only character that matters for this question is Agent of Chaos Bricks, the character I cannot mentally separate from my mostly main Tri-Slosher Nouveau. I would select "Oomi!" to record Bricks on the poll.

Edit because I falsely assumed common knowledge: "Woomy" and "Ngyes" refer to the Inkling variants, while "Veemo" and "Oomi" refer to the Octoling variants; listed in feminine/masculine order.

I choose Octoling Girl (or Veemo, lol). I basically fell in love with Octolings shortly after becoming interested in Splatoon in 2018; even though I started with Splatoon 1 Hero mode, I loved fighting the Octolings in their designated levels 'til I could actually play as one. I relate to their more curious and inquisitive personalities, their voices are adorable, and I love the way they look, plus I was intrigued by their backstories in 2 and thoroughly enjoyed the Octo Expansion.

That's not to say I don't LIKE Inklings, however. I'm perfectly fine with playing as one in 1 and started off with one in 2, and I like their voices and their energetic, fun-loving, plucky personalities. Also, the Wave style is one of my favorite hairstyles in the game.

Ever since getting Octo Expansion in Splatoon 2, I have been playing as the Octoling Boy (or Oomi, though, I refer to his sound as Weyo). I prefer Octolings due to their biological lore-related reason, heck that's why I created OCs and NPCs from the tentacle Octarians in the first place. Also, bonus points for the male Octoling having a voice that's close to my own voice, which I didn't think would happen in a million years lol.

I was fine playing as a male Inkling in Splatoon 1 and the first half of Splatoon 2, heck, I still play as him in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I loved the octo expansion lore (i finally finished it!!!) and i never wanna forget it, so i only use octolings now (unless me and my friend are matching or something)

I still like inklings though, it's just octolings feel more... me (???)

i have previously described On This Very Forum how i as a new player ended up playing as a masc octoling in the first place

i think i would’ve made the same choice though had i come in with any knowledge of splatoon lore (or remembered what gender genter was when i was making my character)

Octoling boy, pretty simple reasoning. I loved Splatoon 1, then in 2 Octo expansion I love so much. Then finally in 3 I for some reason felt more nostalgia from octoling

Ngyes for multiplayer, veemo for Side Order. I treat my multiplayer inkling as an avatar, whereas I treat Eight as their own character. Especially now that they have their own side mode and they aren't playable in multiplayer.

when i played through OE years late, i played as an octoling girl with the classic ‘tentacurl’ hairstyle because that game still had gender-locked genter-locked hairstyles and i wanted that one over either of the masc hairstyles available for octolings in s2. (for the record, i had played through octo canyon as an inkling boy because the hairstyle i wanted the most was the ‘hipster’ style.) for side order, my OE octoling carried over (which i was a little surprised about considering i got splatoon 2 after splatoon 3—and i know it wasn’t just that that was the ‘default’ eight because my parallel canon loaded in with the hairstyle i picked for my s2 inkling!) and because s3 gave us hair freedom, i could’ve kept the tentacurl hairstyle and swapped style to a masc octoling, but it just felt right to keep the same exact design as i used in OE, y’know? i also wanted some separation between the ‘me’ that’s in multiplayer and the ‘me’ that’s in side order

i also have a side profile where my main player character is a fem octoling and my eight is also a fem octoling but that is because that’s my no-NSO in-character singleplayer campaign replay profile and both my oc-ified non-canon-compliant neo agent 3 and agent 8 are… uh, asterisk on it for the latter—asterisk on it for both of them really—but roughly both octoling girls/women

Some people probably have some complicated lore based reason but idk any of that and I just chose the octoling boy because of hair like I swear my character thinks he's lil Wayne or smthn even though he's worn a blue do-rag before which contradicts it all cos weezy is a blood. Not that I want to look like that irl or that's my ideal self I'm just a weezy fan.

I don't have any alts because I don't have any ocs so I've never bothered with that
