I'm Canadian too actually and I've been thinking about this issue as well.
If you're a night owl who doesn't mind not sleeping for a few nights, you could wait until 22:30 EST, put your timezone to Newfoundland to go forward a day, and use the Pacific timezone to go back a day if you're past midnight. It's a narrow and inconvenient time window, but that's the best we have.
Honestly, I'll rather have my sleep.
