I'll admit that, clever as it is, it's probably one of the weaker Splatfest ideas they've had. If it comes at the cost of not offending anyone, though, then so be it.

I'm curious to see who's winning the popularity contest so far. Can I trust the kids of the NA region to not sell themselves short (like I have) and say they're Nice? (Even if the cynic in me says that they'd say that just because no kid wants to be on the Naughty list.)

So I've been taking a kind of unofficial survey throughout the day today. After several matches in Ranked and then again after several Turf Wars matches I reported on every squid/kid I could find in my plaza, and if they had either
A. An identifying tee telling which team they are on or
B. A Miiverse post obviously in support of one team
I tally them up. So far, the numbers are VERY similar, with there being a tiny fraction more on the Naughty list. (I found a few posts admitting they had only joined because they thought Naughty would be less popular though.) Right now it's around
~ 40 Team Naughty
~ 35 Team Nice

I realize this isn't the most accurate survey, but I did my best to broaden the base by playing at different times and in many different lobbies in both modes. I also avoided repeat tallies if I caught them. Otherwise this is just to give everyone a good idea of what's going on. If you want actual numbers, I can provide those when I am satisfied with the number of trials. (prolly going to be about ten)

That's been pretty consistent with what I've seen so far too. At first, I thought Team Nice had a distinct advantage, but I've been seeing a bunch of Team Naughty Miiverse posts in the plaza lately, so I think it may be pretty close. At this point it seems closer than burgers/pizza was at least, but who knows how things will shake out once more people start picking sides.

Ah, well... I don't regret choosing Team Naughty. Considering I have a very aggressive play style, I don't mind camping, and the language that I use when I'm playing Splatoon... I don't think I'm very suited for "Team Nice". Then again... Your team captain is quite possibly the rudest squid in the entire game. So who knows how nice Team Nice is actually going to be. :P

If this is gonna be anything like the Art vs. Science Splatfest, I could easily see people from Team Nice turning into pompous ***** bragging about their niceness, whilst simultaneously putting down anyone from Team Naughty that dares to be nice. Cue the people from Team Naughty calling them out for not being nice.

Ooh... I really hope this doesn't happen. I say this fully knowing that I hoped Team Naughty would be mature.

Pretty much... I kind of like it this way though. I've been on the "popular" side and the "not popular" side of Splatfests before, and I can definitely say it is not a 100% fair fight. Maybe this Splatfest will actually be based on skill.

I can't decide which team I want to be on myself. On the one hand Team Nice seems to be innocent and inexperienced, but Team Naughty isn't exactly leaving me with the impression that they are highly intelligent and mature either.

Yes, I feel more confident that this will be a more difficult to predict outcome than the last one. Honestly, if anything, it seems like more people are on Team Naughty, at least judging by Miiverse plaza posts. Team Nice might get a boost for being a bit less popular, but it's fairly even enough.

On the one hand Team Nice seems to be innocent and inexperienced, but Team Naughty isn't exactly leaving me with the impression that they are highly intelligent and mature either.

That's a fair observation. This may come across as me being biased toward my own team, but I feel like, if anything, Team Nice will generally have a higher concentration of mature players, and as such might be more skilled on average. On the other hand, I can't really say which team the majority of younger kids who play will choose: will they tend toward naughty or nice? I'm really not sure.

Anyway, choosing sides here is simply all in good fun, I should hope; in reality, I hope even Team Naughty members still aspire to be nice in real life. :3
