so i’ve been seeing some folks on bluesky posting about their splatoon goals for the upcoming new year and i wanted to bring that idea to y’all over here. originally i was going to post this in the competitive discussion board and orient it towards the comp-oriented folks among us (pause for “among us?”), but i decided it’d be better to open it up to all. you don’t need to be a capital C capital P Competitive Player to have goals for this game! splatoon-related goals outside of the actual game (like writing that big fanfiction in your head, starting your splatoon streamer/youtuber career, etc) are also welcome. hashing out plans to meet these goals is encouraged but not required.
i’ll start:
i’ll start:
- finally hit S+. i’ve been ranking up to S and then hitting a wall since fresh season ‘23. this is getting ridiculous, man.
- for a while i’ve had the idea of trying to play one series, or at least part of one series, per day, but i get burnt on a strict daily thing like that quickly. (also, i work one 16-hour day a week.) but i do think the thing holding me back is in part that i lose motivation to keep playing series. maybe if i can set a smaller goal, like “finish two series tickets a week”, that’d be more effective?
- develop a better warm-up routine. i’ve mostly been winging it by like, stretching for a minute and then rolling around shooting at lobby targets and calling that my warm-up.
- i think part of this is to be structured but flexible about it. like, what can i do if i have all the time i need to warm up? if i only have 10, or 5, or less than that, what’s essential and what can be dropped? i also want to turn back to the community’s knowledge here—splatoon players everywhere, including here on an old thread, have been discussing how they warm up.
- play in more tournaments, with or without my team. i think part of what’s holding me back as a player is that i just… don’t get as much competitive experience as i’d like. loosely i’d like to aim for one a month, whether that’s something low-level like reach, a draft tournament, an open weekly, or even some weird one-off gimmick tournament.
- part of this is finding the tournaments in the first place, so i’ll keep a closer eye on things like the splatoon competitive discord feed. i also need to be less shy about trying to put together pickups if my team isn’t available or interested in a tournament i want to play.
- stop saying “one day i’ll write my over-ambitious fancomic” and start just doing it. it won’t write itself!!!
- the comic format is something i need practice with, so this year i’ll actually draw some smaller comics. but my inexperience with the medium shouldn’t be stopping me from at least outlining the story so it doesn’t just exist in my head. i do NOT have infallible memory
