So it's safe to assume that most if not all of us thought that there would be no more news about the Nintendo switch 1, or new games coming our for it. But apparently there is.

So yea here's a thread for you to put your thought about the direct, pre-reactions to post reactions, wishlists, theories, whatever!

I go first with a wishlist which is simply something about ARMS like please! I tried to play the game recently, and I kind of struggled to fine a full lobby I'm hoping that something ARMS related can revive the game, because this game has so much potential.

Also a little theory, but I feel that if this direct is related to games than there will most likely be no game reveals on the switch 2 direct which is fine imo, the switch 2 direct should mostly be about the hardware, not the software.

I think the Switch 2 Direct will feature some exclusive software, just to encourage people to go buy it. Like there will be some gimmick game for the mousecons, and the new MarioKart has to be exclusive, right?

I’m really curious how they’re going to handle promoting games for Switch at this point.

Huh. I can't imagine there would be any particularly major releases for Switch this coming year as Nintendo starts to focus on the Switch 2 more but what do I know. I also don't even know which existing Nintendo games are still seeing active updates at this point since I don't really play too many games lmao

Metroid Prime 4 may be an interesting point of discussion as it's one of few Switch games we know of that has no set release date or anything. We know the game's been through development hell but I recall at one point seeing them offering job listings specifically for people who would be working on this game several years after its initial announcement. Is this the kind of thing they would instead save for the Switch 2 though? We know they aren't showing anything about the Switch 2 here.

The other games I'm thinking of that we don't know a release date for are Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon Champions. However, Pokemon doesn't usually show anything new for their games in Nintendo Directs as opposed to specifically Pokemon Directs or just random tweets. Like, MAYBE we get something, but I'd be surprised for sure.

I doubt we're getting anything for Splatoon either. I'm not going to completely dismiss it being possible but this would be a pretty weird time for them to announce any kind of Splatoon content. I really don't know why they would wait until like a year after finishing their main content cycle, get right up before the launch of a new console, and then have some random big drop. The one big exception would be if they were planning some kind of online tournament like what they've done for Worlds or that random Christmas Turf War thing if you'd recall that.

Otherwise, I have to imagine this direct will be pretty small in scope. You'll get stuff like your Smash Ultimate Spirit events, a NSO Virtual Console game, a bunch of indie games, and then maybe a few spinoffs or games from smaller Nintendo IPs. The most one could hope for to be really excited by this otherwise is a "big" game that more mainstream audiences don't really care about as much. Think a new game from Platinum, or maybe a new Punch-Out for example.
There has been some pretty heavy discussion on the Switch 2 releasing some time around June. The big reason for this that I've gathered is because the Switch 1 sold a lot of consoles the summer after its launch and being ahead of that curve would be nice for Nintendo. Maybe they still release it in the winter, but if they at all plan on releasing it before this summer then I have to imagine it'll mostly be third party stuff.

I expect tomorrow's Direct to be mostly ports and remakes, the usual filler for the end of a console's lifespan. But they must have something big enough to merit a separate Switch 1 Direct just a week before the Switch 2 Direct. What could it be?

Last we heard, Prime 4 is still a Switch 1 game, though it really ought to be cross-gen at this point. I'm sure it'll be in either tomorrow's Direct or next week's. The fact that there is a Direct tomorrow means I'm leaning towards this being the heavy hitter that justifies having a Switch 1 Direct. If it's not though, we could see Prime 2/3 tomorrow and 4 next week.

Galaxy 2 seems like an obvious pick, people have been wondering where it is ever since it wasn't in 3D All Stars. It's too much of a safe pick to be the headliner though.

I'm hoping we see some cult classic brought back, something that will get a few people really really excited. F-Zero GX immediately comes to mind. But also, after they teased us with 99, we need a *new* F-Zero more than we need a remaster.
Mother 3 would break the internet, if it were to ever happen this would be the time to do it, but we all know it's never happening. Mother 3 is purely a meme.
But off the top of my head I can't think of what other cult hits would be a big deal right now.

Thinking in terms of what studios we haven't heard from in a while, HAL and Intelligent Systems. There's surely something Kirby and something Fire Emblem in the works, and those could be late Switch titles rather than Switch 2 titles.

Third parties, I'm gonna stake my bet that we'll see Chrono Trigger. SE recently teased that they have *multiple* projects in the works, and CT remains conspicuously absent from Switch still. It's also not something they'd need to save for Switch 2. So tomorrow is the most logical time to reveal it.

Silksong isn't real. It's a collective fever dream we all hallucinated. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Yea while I wish for something big the fact that the Nintendo switch 1 life span is about to end I'm keeping my expectations in check for what I think will happen

last chance for the tomodachi life switch reveal featuring full miitopia mii customization, more in-depth multiplayer interactions than the 3ds game’s streetpass features, letting miis be gay, and a FISHING MINIGAME
I WIN

okay, no word on multiplayer or fishing minigame yet, but otherwise I WIN

That Direct was pretty decent. Makes it clear that Nintendo isn't totally abandoning the NS1 with NS2 coming out. Nintendo has a tendency to support their successful consoles with post-generational support, with the NES/SNES/3DS being good examples. Not Wii though as sales for that console fell off a cliff towards the end.

I am most excited to Metroid Prime 4 as that game looks cool. Might try the new Tomadachi Life and Rhythm Heaven too, haven't actually played an entry in those series before.

My favorite announcement from the Direct is definitely the Virtual Game Card feature, going to be super useful for me as I have a bunch of nearby friends in NSO Family Group who I can share my digital games with. Early in the Switch's life, I tried being an all-digital gamer, which was a mistake, but it resulted in a lot of my Switch games prior to 2021 being bought digitally. So being able to share them is sick, definitely was not on my bingo card for Nintendo of all companies.
