[Overfishing] How to Optimize Tornado Waves

[Overfishing] How to Optimize Tornado Waves

(Originally written by マー (Marty) from the Overfishing Discord server, added here by me for easier access)

On this wave type, players must carry eggs from low tide towards the normal tide basket. Snatchers do not spawn on this wave, so Snatcher Optimization is impossible.

Mechanics

Two crates of eggs will spawn during the wave, with the number of eggs increasing with hazard level. Each egg counts as two during this wave. At Hazard Level Max, there will be 25 (*2) eggs per crate.

Each crate may spawn in one of three (or four on low tide Sockeye Station) directions. The first crate will spawn immediately when the wave starts, and the second crate will spawn at 55 seconds left.

When the first crate spawns, lesser Salmonids will fall towards it. Afterwards, lesser Salmonids will spawn in the area near the low tide basket at 90 seconds left. A set number of lesser Salmonids (which increases with Hazard level) will spawn.

The second crate will spawn at 55 seconds left. There will be no lesser Salmonids falling towards it. The next wave of lesser Salmonids will spawn around the low tide basket at 43 seconds left. When this wave has been dealt with, no other lesser Salmonids will spawn.

Overall Strategy

Currently, there is no particular strategy regarded as the best one for this wave type. However, the following strategies have proven effective so far:

1) -Four players staying together for the first crate of eggs
-These players will throw eggs together towards the egg basket, and some will use special weapons to deal with lesser Salmonids.
-When the second crate appears, players will start splitting, with one or two players throwing eggs into or very close to the basket, while other players throw eggs towards the middle.
-When the number of eggs to throw into the basket has decreased, one of the two players near the basket may help throw eggs from the middle. One player will use special weapons to deal with lesser Salmonids.
-Players start reuniting near the basket when the wave is about to end. The host of the room should collect the eggs near the basket.

2) -Four players throw eggs together after destroying the first crate
-Players start splitting during the first wave of lesser Salmonids, with one player collecting the eggs landing closer to the basket, while 1 or 2 players stay in the middle, one throwing eggs and one dealing with lesser Salmonids (with special weapons), while the remaining player throws eggs from the first crate.
-The same actions are repeated for the second crate and wave of lesser Salmonids, but players start reuniting towards the end to deposit the eggs together.

The guide will be updated as more advanced strategies are developed for this wave type. Remember that egg throwing can be used to kill Chums and Smallfry.

Special Weapon Roles

To prioritize time for egg throwing, special usage is important on this wave type, even with weapons good against lesser Salmonids. 2 or 3 special weapons are used for each wave of lesser Salmonids.

Inkjet, Crab Tank and Wave Breaker are viewed as the best special weapons.

Inkjet, a long-duration special, can deal with lesser Salmonids efficiently by shooting and using its exhaust. If two Inkjets are available, it is recommended to use one at the start of each wave of lesser Salmonids.

Crab Tank is another long-duration special, although it must stay farther from lesser Salmonids to avoid taking damage. Normal fire is good against all lesser Salmonids. One cannon shot can be used as the special ends.

Wave Breaker deals damage to Cohocks and kills all Chums and Smallfry hit by the waves. It is recommended to use it after a long-duration special, towards the end of a wave of lesser Salmonids. Wave Breaker allows its user to multitask and refills its ink, so it is ideal to use it shortly after throwing an egg.

Reefslider and Triple Inkstrike can quickly kill all lesser Salmonids they hit, but their duration is very short, so they are not favoured compared to Inkjet, Crab Tank or Wave Breaker.

Booyah Bomb can be used by a player to kill Salmonids quickly. Since version 2.0.0, using a Booyah Bomb to lure Salmonids to oneself has become impossible.

Killer Wail can target the egg crates and open them from afar, before players can reach them. It can also be used to kill lesser Salmonids if needed, although it will not target them.

In the event that few or no specials are available, weapons best suited to killing lesser Salmonids should do so when the latter start spawning.
