Octoling Hype Thread (prev. Assets in SplatNet)

But this cross system maintenance seems fishy. That's too overboard for one game's patch.

Making Octolings playable in Splatoon isn't really emptying their clip per say. There's a lot of ways that Nintendo could expand on Splatoon and a lot of features they could use. After all... How much do we know about the Octolings? We're limited to what the scrolls told us but there's still a lot that could be expanded on. Octolings could even be the main focus of a second Splatoon and it could take place in the unexplored areas of Octovalley that we've heard about. It could also just expand on the peace between Inklings and Octolings. There's lots of ways to expand things with Splatoon.

I'm hopeful that Octolings will become playable soon. More variety in the characters would be great~ The Inkling girls look great and all but they're so common. Even male players use them pretty often, so there's not a lot of variety. At least adding Octoling girls and boys would add some variety to who we're facing and seeing haha. xP

yeah, i meant all nintendo's stuff, including smash, the aforementioned spoilers, etc.

This whole thing is quite suspicious. To steal a phrase from the user of another forum I go to, we've been seeing a lot of smoke but no fire yet.

I get what you mean, but there's an ocean full of things they can explore with this IP. Even if they are playable in this game, that would make the octo-only single player even more viable. as far as sequel material goes, we've only explored inkopolis and octo valley. Marie mentioned something about "out west," and "calamari county," and a ton of unexplored areas in octo valley itself. I want to see some desert cowboy squid. or country squid. or different sects of octoling subculture. are there different species of squid? what about the jelly's role, or the shrimps/crustaceans? I could go on wondering, but that's for the creators to give me in the sequel.

sorry if i sounded forward or dejecting to your idea, but i'm jones-ing for playable octos, and if a sequel does come out, I at least want octoling character established before then.

Jelly, shrimp, and crustaceans are all appealing to me. I just think they are all background characters. Its Octos and Squids driving the story so far I think. Don't get me wrong I will not be one bit upset if we get Octolings in the near future. I just don`t want them to just tack them on for fan service.

I cant see the game leaving Inkopolis as the main back drop. I could see them bringing more diverse 'sea creatures' to the big city though.

Like I said to aqua46 I am all for Octoling being playable. I just want them to be done right. I would not like to see 'them' add a male and female Octoling and get an one minute back and forth from the squid sisters saying 'oh my octolings are here.. blah blah weapons added, eeep who let them part of the the battles?! Stay on your toes/tentacles and stay fresh!'

I trust Nintendo will do it right one way or another. Just playing the devils advocate and maybe a bit paranoid I guess.

I think we'll get the best of both, eventually. Some scratching of octoling info in this game, and maybe something dire will happen in octo valley/inkopolis, and it'll be up to the octolings to help next time. if they just intro them as friendlies, with a bit of background info, but not give too much detail on their society as a whole (they still might not trust each other), that might be a good compromise.

Admitably, it is funny how everyone so far has started jumping the gun at every little thing Nintendo does. It's like a child waiting for his/her presents. It would be cute if it wasn't so funny~ I'm just letting what happens, happen. All this excitement and hype will calm down pretty soon anyway. So yeah.

Plus, I don't mind this speculative, presumptive hype. This game, although not perfect, has been the most creative thing to come out of a games studio in a long time, and October is my month. Fall fests, Halloween, birthday, good food, and now self-inflating hype for a game I love.

No, i get it. there've been posts about this since July, and it can get old. I was worn out myself until the strange behavior began. Now between the overall Nintendo media silence on all their games, and trying to get a hold of a reasonably priced artbook, I have my month set (presumably).

Just finished reading through all this... So it's safe to say this has basically become the official "Octoling Hype!!" thread? I'm okay with that ;)

Personally, I'm predicting a Direct tomorrow. I could easily be wrong, but it just makes sense. There's just so much to announce. Splatoon 3.0 Update (featuring the Octolings), new character for Smash (I wouldn't be surprised if either Wolf or Inkling is almost finished), all these leaked eShop titles, Twilight Princess HD. There's definitely enough news to be covered in a Direct, and it's got to come soon. HYPE!!!

I don't want to feel like I'm being a downer here but Nintendo of Europe announced the release date of Mario and Luigi Paper Jam which is on 12/4/15 on their Twitter account. That could have easily been announced through a Nintendo Direct. I have a feeling we might not get one tomorrow but who knows? Personally I would love to be wrong in the end.

There may be a direct, or they may use twitter to announce the news. They are clearing hiding something in regards to this game with the whole not fixing exploits and all. Yes, the hacker is banned, but surely this update will prevent any more cases popping up. There is definitely a lot of info they are hiding that could fit a whole direct. Or they could do it like last time and just do a twitter bomb like they did back in I think, August?

The main reason people are so starved for news is that Nintendo has been verrrrrry quiet recently. They haven't announced anything big at all to curb their fan's hunger for awhile now, and we're going nuts as a result. You can't blame people for wanting to know any big news, especially with how long it's been since Nintendo shared news like that. And you think we're bad, don't go near the Smash Bros. community.

I think much of the "quiet" we been getting lately is due to the sudden passing of Iwata-san and the corporate reshuffling that followed. That, and their apparent new found determination to combat data mining after Smash's last update.

This is true, all we're doing is speculating. It could mean absolutely nothing. But there's two maintenance on that very same day, one for four hours and another for three. And during those times, we can't play Splatoon. It could lead to something, but it could not. I'll wait and see.

We may not get a direct at all. They may just come out and tell us if they intent to let us know. And release dates are odd. Some region's directs mention them, others don't.

Mr. Iwata's death definitely threw a curveball into whatever they were planning and they've been a little scrambled as a result. They did confirm that directs are not dead. Which is good for those who like those 30-50 minutes of hype like myself.

I just have no idea on how they'll announce the news, will they do a direct, or will they go for the twitter machine, or will they just announce it on their site, Or will do absolutely nothing? It's hard to predict these guys.
